Alyssa Herbert What do you do with the cash that is left in the envelopes? So I get paid biweekly and I want to pull cash out for the envelope system. I have four categories: Food, Groceries, Gas and Other. So what if I still have money left in the envelope when the two weeks is up? Do I take it all out and put it towards debt? And then just replenish the set amounts? Or do you just let it accumulate. For example- I plan to give myself $40 for food for two weeks. What if I don’t use all of the $40 and still have $30 in the envelope. Do I add $40 more when I get paid again to make it $70 for food, or do I take that $30 and do something with it!? Thanks for helping me understand how it works!!
@@Lolelovelolelove That's totally up to you! You can roll the amount over into the next week, or you can take it out and put it towards your debt. No one way is right or wrong! Dave Ramsey would probably recommend putting it towards your debt, but I never feel bad if I roll that money over or put it in a different envelope.
Alyssa Herbert Thank you so much for your response! I just started my debt free journey in August so I am still in the process of making errors and correcting them. This is the first month I will be using the cash envelope system and I am really excited to see how it works out for me!! No more over spending 🤗 thanks again 💕
Watched your video last night, went out this morning to Hobby Lobby, Michael's and Walmart, got all my supplies ready and I have just completed my D.R. envelope system! This was soooo easy to do and your instructions were perfect! Thanks for sharing your video!
Alyssa, if you can, setup a link thru Amazon Associates for the lamination machine & paper so when people go to buy one thru your You Tube account, you can get some small percentage from the sale. All they have to do is click the Amazon link and you get a little from their purchase. *Every bit helps.*
Hey, an idea for making the envelopes and using the most paper you can, I noticed you said you make your envelopes 3.5 inches by 7. A dollar bill is only about 2.6 inches. If you cut those 12x12 papers in half, and then folded those half pieces the long way, then you’d be able to make 2 envelopes per paper that were 3x7 rather than 3.5x7. Just a thought. 😊
Thank you! I appreciate it! I think the envelopes being significantly longer than the bills themselves is more important than "deeper", you're right. I'll have to make a mock envelope that size and see what I think!
I would LOVE if you could do a giveaway for these! I love using Dave Ramsey’s zero balance budget in combination with the envelope system to help manage my budget! Im a senior in Highschool and keeping organized is my top priority
Alyssa Nicole it’s another way of scrapbooking, but made to be more practical. Much easier than scrapbooking and with way less supplies, and you can use different sizes of binders for it. They sell the binders and starters kits in craft stores now (I’ve seen them at michales and Joanne’s, and you can get them online.) Plus I think the happy planner - memory planner took a LOT of inspiration from the system. Look it up on RUclips and you’ll see the main video of the mom who started it. It’s an awesome system, and I honestly use it as inspiration for how I use my planners. I have a whole tray set up for project life as well that hasn’t been used that much. Thinking I’ll use my scraps from making your money envelopes 👆🏽 to add into it. Oh and the Premise behind it, was to add a picture or journal entry a day to your project life. It’s pretty incredible way to document your life, or certain areas of your life!
You can use the smaller pieces by laminating them and making bookmarks. and the bigger pieces you can write a quote on it and laminate that too and it become a quote card of a book plate...
This is super cute. I bought that laminator for homeschool projects, but OMG I'm loving this and will probably end up making some as well. I agree, if it's cute I'm more likely to do things.
I did this method, and with the leftovers, I squared up the bigger pieces and made them thank you notes, and the smaller scraps I laminated and left an edge, then hole punched and cut it to use as a place saver in my planner!!
I made some and I love them. The only thing I can think of for using some of my leftover scrap paper is thank you cards/gift notes. I wasn't as calm as you making them lol, I was sleepy so I would cut some wrong or too short, I was sweating with this summer heat. but the ones that came out good were so pretty :)
For the larger scrap pieces, they should be about 4x6 (folded)... can laminate them, and use them to hold a few cash envelopes in... won't be completely covered, but an idea. I also would use them to make greeting cards, gift tags, cut them all to the same size for scratch paper... get a 4x6 frame and make a mini whiteboard for your desk, laminate and hang on fridge for a grocery list whiteboard... 😁👍
This is awesome all I’ve seen was laminators that were like so expensive ! Had no idea they had this inexpensive, I’m glad I found your page I had amazon credit and GIftcards only paid $14 for the sheets and laminator 😍 thanks girl!
I love this idea! I could see myself doing these to be more motivated to use my envelopes! Just going through FPU with my husband and trying to get our money on track! Thanks for sharing this!
These are so cute and such a great idea! We went through financial peace university years ago and we are waaaaay off track currently so I'm spearheading getting us back to budgeting and I found your videos and loved them! I made these envelopes yesterday and they're so cute and you're right when you say the thicker paper doesn't work; it got jammed in my laminator!! 🙁 Loving these and going to be making a bunch and selling at a local market with my other goodies!!!
Great video, thanks for sharing. Not sure if yours has it but many of the paper trimmers usually have a ruler arm that swings out allowing you to cut and measure at the same time.
At my school we have personal finance and the book we used was foundations in personal finance by Dave Ramsey. We were educated in this and seeing that people actually do this make me wanna do this in the future
Thanks for the tutorial I made my cash envelopes today and used the 7x3.5 size recommendstions and so far so good! Now I have to wait for my zippered planner to arrive and get them in there 😊
Love your videos!! Could you do an in-depth video explaining what snowball debt is and also where you get your planners? I’m saving for a house and didn’t really know where to start but this is going to be suchhhhh a huge help! Thank you tons!
It would be so nice for people like me that don’t have all that stuff to make it with, if you could make & sell them. I also wanted to say that the extra paper that you have left over, you could take and write whatever the bill is on a small piece of the paper and put it on top of the envelope and laminate it on top of the envelope. For example take a small piece and write Car Insurance on it and stick it on the front of the paper when you put it in the laminating paper and then run it through the laminator that way you know what it’s for.
You could use 8 1/2 x 11 paper or buy a 6x6 paper pad and use. Less waste. Use left over scraps to make gift card envelopes using the same laminated method.
Those left over bits could be used as book marks, or used on the backs of your sinking funds as you put money into them. Also useful as a short shopping list to go weekly.
Love the idea behind this definitely will start doing this saving/monitoring method with baby on the way it will definitely help!!! Thank you for your tips and tricks!!!
Thank you so much for making this informative, step by step video! You have no idea how much this inspired me to make my own. I’m almost in my 30’s and I don’t have any money in my savings to save my life. Just recently I got a better paying job. Watching your video motivates me to save money! Thank you so much for making this. I appreciate your craft. I have a question though my dear. I’m going to buy some scrapbook paper tomorrow and attempt to make these along with purchasing all the stuff you linked in your description box... can I use stickers to decorate the cash envelopes? I’m talking about the letter stickers that are flat, not like the 3D puffy ones.. only asking cause I don’t want to ruin the laminator or I’m not sure if it would mess up? Please get back to me, thanks!!!
book marks and greeting cards is what I would use for the scraps. Then it won't get wasted. If you have children send the bookmarks to the school for the library.
Hi I'm new. I use to do a envelope system when I was a single mom. And I loved it and it really did organize and help me out and budget and then I had six kids and it just crazy and so I came up and saw your video yesterday and I subscribed and I went to Walmart and I got the papers and I actually made these cute little envelopes that you're showing me so thank you so much and I'm going to start doing this again cuz it does really really help and thank you. With the extra paper you can use it as like bookmarks or greeting cards or stuff like that
Hi I love your videos you inspired me to get back in control of my finances and budgeting and maintaining a lot better. I was wondering which laminator do you have??
The envelopes she made with gold foil, pink and mint are from Mint to be Fab by Paper Studio. Hobby Lobby has it online but doesn’t ship to Canada. 😭. Those papers are so gorgeous.
When I get scraps like that I use em to write in for my negative Nancy journal which is literally a notebook and I use stick glue to randomly place them for whatever made me angry that day and my journal looks super cute . But maybe you could have a positive journal instead lol
For anyone wondering, the larger envelopes are 8.5"x4.5"!

I need some. Would you make some and sell?
Gift tags for the scraps would be nice
Yes! That's what I use mine for! Just use a hole punch and some ribbon and you're good to go!
Watched your video last night, went out this morning to Hobby Lobby, Michael's and Walmart, got all my supplies ready and I have just completed my D.R. envelope system! This was soooo easy to do and your instructions were perfect! Thanks for sharing your video!
Thanks for sharing. Clear contact paper from $ store also works

I don’t even know if I’m going to do this budgeting system but your videos are so relaxing.
I didn't have a laminator so I just used tape for along the edges and mine turned out really pretty too
Charlissa Berry hi di you put tape inside of your envelopes I'm thinking to do what you di use tape to makes my
@@jebella20 Hello, I didn't put any tape inside just outside
Charlissa Berry oh ok thank you
Great idea. Thanks for sharing.
Charlissa Berry same! I looked around using material I already had including card stock and tape. Works and looks just as clean. 😊

how did it work out?
I tried this and it actually works perfectly with the 12x12 sheets!
Thank you!
I would LOVE if you could do a giveaway for these! I love using Dave Ramsey’s zero balance budget in combination with the envelope system to help manage my budget! Im a senior in Highschool and keeping organized is my top priority
You can cut the paper to the size of your planner boxes and use them to decorate it.
Ummmm....that's a GREAT IDEA! Thank you!!
I was going to recommend that to! Or use them for project life if you do that!
Oohhh what is project life?

The easiest tutorial out there! Just made these and they turned out great! Thank you!
You can use them as elements for handmade cards, create mini party banners/garlands, place cards, small paper flowers, or tiny b-day hats.
Giveaway sounds good to me. I agree that cute envelopes would be motivating.
If you don’t have a laminator there is heatless laminator sheets at Office Depot and it works just the same ❤️loved this video
I love this idea! I could see myself doing these to be more motivated to use my envelopes! Just going through FPU with my husband and trying to get our money on track! Thanks for sharing this!

You can use that extra paper to maybe join them on a bigger thin paper like news paper and decorate things or wrap gifts with them
With the extra scrap paper you can make book marks out of them or save them to make gift tags you can attach to presents or gift bags.
At my school we have personal finance and the book we used was foundations in personal finance by Dave Ramsey. We were educated in this and seeing that people actually do this make me wanna do this in the future
Thank you for the clear instructions!!! I'm going to make some. Super cute.
If you laminate all those papers the rectangular one can be book marks and the bigger pieces of paper can hold recipes or receipts!
Thanks for the tutorial I made my cash envelopes today and used the 7x3.5 size recommendstions and so far so good! Now I have to wait for my zippered planner to arrive and get them in there 😊

I take return envelopes that come in the mail with bills, etc. and label and use them for my system. Super easy, free, and a great way to repurpose!
That totally works! There's no inherent NEED for them to be anything fancy 😊
You could use 8 1/2 x 11 paper or buy a 6x6 paper pad and use. Less waste.
Use left over scraps to make gift card envelopes using the same laminated method.
I did this tonight and found it so fun and easy! Thinking about selling them on Etsy now! Thanks for the step by step tutorial:)
I would suggest cutting them to size and laminating them and then gluing them to your envelopes for a reopenable seal
Thank you for sharing, I've made my first cash envelopes 😁 they are so cute and chic.
For the bigger pieces of scrap paper you can use them for cards! Example, birthday cards, thank you cards etc!
You can use the scraps for bookmarks with scriptures or quotes or tabs/dividers if you laminate and label them
Those left over bits could be used as book marks, or used on the backs of your sinking funds as you put money into them. Also useful as a short shopping list to go weekly.
Hi! I love this method!!! You have helped me so much! I use the left over paper has a "post it" notes and headers for my bullet journal ❤❤❤
Now I want to buy a laminator and material to make envelopes.
So simple and adorable. Love the papers! Thanks for sharing.
The extra paper could be cute birthday cards or name tags for presents.
Use the scraps as little card/ notes for gifts
Make card holders out of the left over scraps!!!!!!!!! Love your videos thank you so much!!!!
I made some and absolutely love them! Thank you for showing 💙💙💙

I would love to see your planner videos and any video on budgeting. I love your channel and your videos. Great content.
Thank you for making this as simple as possible.
You can make a bill denomination tracking sheet to take to the bank for your cash envelopes stuffing. Laminate it and reuse the ones you make.
You can add words or stickers to the extra paper then laminate them to make bookmarks and use or sale them.
Just curious.. What do u do with ur old weekly planner spread sheets? I just finished my 2019 planner & I hate to trash all my sheets
gave this a try and it was so EASY to make. Thanks for the tutorial!! i loved it!
Use the envelope scraps to make pockets for your planner.
A give away would be amazing! I dont own a laminater. Just found your channel and I'm addicted :)
You can use excess paper to great story boards to give as gifts to like kids or teenagers in your family or friend group
Bookmarks made with the scraps would be Awesome !!! 💘
The scrap paper is perfect for gift tags or mini greeting cards

Make gift tags with the scraps! It saves tons of money!
You can use the scrap (bigger scrap pieces) laminate them, put a snap or Velcro and make it for your change (coins)
Oooh good idea!
for the scrap paper, you could make a bank card where u put how many 100’s u need and 20’s and 10’s and 50’s and 1’s and 5’s ect!

Love how cute! Now I need to get laminating paper for my machine I never use😊
Yes, absolutely! Amazon has a some great deals!
Can’t wait to make these! Thanks!
You can use the extra scraps to make another envelope and you can put your stickers and there
cute envelopes! Ive been doing envelope system for years. But just boring old envelopes.
Bookmarks would be perfect way to use the rest of the paper. 👍🏼
How do you label them? Him many do you have?
I’m totally doing this today! Thanks for the idea.
Woohoo! You're so welcome!

Thank you ! I’m starting my envelopes, this are cute great idea!
You could turn your extra cut scrap paper in to labels for organization
You can use the extra paper and gift card holders!!!
Im a new fan. I’ve been binge watching your videos for 3 days now! Gonna get you more subscribers.

I would use them as gift tags for all occasions
You’re awesome! Just found your channel. Thanks for sharing how you create your cash envelopes.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed!
I love it!!! I would like to see your planner as well if it's not up yet!
You can use the scraps for labels
How do the insides hold up for you? These are super adorable!
Omg you have helped me!! I’ve been trying to get this going and you saved me
Use the scrap paper and make custom bookmarks for people as gifts :) you've got a laminater already
You could always use the scraps to make receipt envelopes
