- You asked for it and hence this video. Here is our comparison between the new Maruti Jimny and the good old Mahindra Thar. Not direct rivals but both offer awesome 4x4 capabilties. While the Jimny comes with a petrol engine online and 4x4 as standard, the Thar comes with both petrol and diesel engines and a low cost 4x2 model as well
Entering to the 2nd row of Thar is like clearing JEE(main) exam. 😂😂

You buy a Jimmy with emotion(heart) not with your head so at any price amount those who have feelings for this machine will have no problem with the price (people who own a gypsy knows what’s the feeling) so my case is it’s justified freaking guys comparing a RWD thar price to a hardcore 4wd machine 😂just indian things

The truth is that any genuine car enthusiasts will prefer Jimny over Thar anyday but internet fankids will comment Thar but again the truth is, these internet fankids commenting Thar are the ones who doesn't own car and will probably never own the car priced above 5 lakhs. All they can do is dream and comment on the internet as a fankid. Good for Thar that Jimny launched too late and everyone looking for offroader has already bought Thar by the time Jimny is launched. Not gonna lie me too was waiting for Jimny but they took forever so already bought Thar and the problem is i can't sale Thar in good price although it's still in brand new condition because the resale value is really bad, i will have a heavy loss

How? Its Alpha 13.6 Lakh Model is more loaded than Thar's LX hardtop Diesel 15.3. It comes with 4x4 and is loaded well from its base thats why you might think its overpriced

All over jimny he best hai mere hisab se , Qki 5 door hai ,boot space hai , sasti off roader hai , milage bhi thar se jyada hai ,roof bhi steel ki hai , size bhi acha hai ,traffic or streets main maje se nikal jayegi 😊
Apart from the size difference Jimny has the stylish and retro Exterior and Interior.
Well bigger is not always better, especially on mountain trails where weight and width are the enemy. Thar is almost 600kgs heavier than Jimny. When it comes to power to weight ratio, Jimny is actually better than Thar. I'm sure you all have seen Fortuners and Thars stuck in snowy Manali where Gypsys are flying by. Jimny has much sorted ride as compared to Thar. Thar is still a work in progress and is limited to India where is Jimny is being sold in Latin America, Africa and APAC in addition to its commercial avatar in Europe, thereby a globally proven product. The only negative with Jimny is the 4 speed torque converter. If I was in the market for a 4X4 I'll pick the Jimny in a heartbeat. If you feel bigger is better and it's all about the size then of course you know which one would you pick.
Petrol thar makes 150 hp and 3 times the torque than jimny
@axel you're right, but power to weight ratio of Jimny is better than Thar. Even if we overlook all of this jazz, Jimny has been on the roads globally for last three years and nowhere have I ever heard any complaint about any issues. Thar on the other hand is still saddled with gremlins. Thar will be a polished product sometimes in the future but today it's not. People who want a trouble free ownership experience will opt for Jimny and Jimny will establish its credentials over next year when people drive it and observe and experience how well put together this product is. Thar will probably ourltsell Jimny, and that's alright at least now people have a choice which is a good thing for the customer instead of a situation where one product was monopolizing the market.

@haridilli95 totally agree with you. Driving full throttle on a sandy incline in 4 low is called off-roading in India. That's fine, it's their money.
@@gypsyking4234how true. I have seen videos of people drag racing Thar and Jimny and writing off Jimny based on that. So called experts have put the vehicle on 4L on Tarmac and tested launch and acceleration and said Jimny goes only 70 in 4L. I feel sad for the poor gearbox and transfer case 😢😢😢 not to mention the engine.

Thar in city is a pain plus accessing groceries or luggage is also a problem if you put anything heavy on rear seats then getting it out is a task.

Have had the pleasure to own 5 Gypsy's over the years. Waiting and Ageing till the Jimny was finally launched in India, then waited another six [6] months after booking, one of the 1st, we were anxiously waiting for the prices. The 7 June price revel left us in shock, to say the least. For a four [4] seat vehicle, but in reality fit for two ;), it is Highly Overpriced by about 2.5 to 3 Lacs, the prices were VERY DISAPPOINTING and Maruti will CRASH its booking numbers. Comparing the Jimny with the Thar is like Oranges to Apples, so we won't go there. Where Maruti had the opportunity to have a swarm of little Jimny's running around India, if the pricing was correct. Instead they chose to price it so high that the basic ON ROAD cost for the Zeta MT is going to be about 15.10 to 15.40 Lacs, with the Alpha AT at about 17.50 to 17.80 Lacs, this with an K15-B Engine, NOT the k15-C. Come on Maruti, this is not Australia? So How & Why the EXORBITANT PRICING?

You should mention about JIMNY - very narrow REAR seats and under thigh support.
Diesel is A No Brainer for Any avg Indian looking to off-road every month end... But Jimny has a traditional rustic charm the performance is less but the road handling and the driving dynamics is slightly better with the interior packing and the overall 5door concept is a more practical choice for that short weekend getaway and avg 100km stint with friends and family.

Thar looks huge ! However, despite its ‘hugeness’, no luggage space and a hassle to access the rear seat. Jimny, while diminutive, it has fairly good boot space and moderately usable back seats.
Jimny is a globally famous legendary off-road machine. Thar is Just a copycat model of Wrangler. 1st gen concept pajero was a modified jeep. But Mitsubishi managed to introduce their new utility off-roader as a fresh machine. Still Mahindra copying Wrangler 😂.

i booked the jimny in January immediately after the Auto Expo, i expected the price to be aggressive, but MS disappointed us on that front. Having said that, Jimny is still too cool and retro in this day and age.
