As a musician I can tell that Arjen has an old soul, and that he needs the connection to soul that proximity provides. I can tell that this is the reason he gets the best out of his people, and needs to be with them. I would love to be able to be there and play and sing, if even for a small part... Nothing for me to gain but just to share making music from the heart with a kindred spirit!
Thanks for posting this. Very interesting interview. I think Arjen is one of the biggest musical geniuses in the rock/metal genre of our time. It's ridiculous how many instruments he can play by himself and what a great sense for melodies he has. Since I first found out about his work in the early 90s I have bought every single of his albums. And while of most of the other acts I'm listening to, I tend to get sick of it after listening to it too many times, I can listen to his songs all day long
5:40 "It's six Hansi Kursch's" Jesus christ, Arjen! You're a madman! It's already widely known that Hansi single-handedly caused Hurricane Katrina back in 2005; don't you realize that six Hansi Kursch's will just destory the entire southeast? ...actually, that's a brilliant idea. Go, Hansi, Go!
I always thought the Forever were humanoid, then there's Bob Catley declaring "I'M A FISH!" in this electric castle! Better make that line my ringtone . . .
Mmm, great to get this voyage into your world Arjen! Having all these nordic singers on your albums, maybe you would like a swedish bassplayer someday ;) And of course I would like to attend the "Arjen School of Studiowork" :))
Ayreon actually was one of my first prog bands. I discovered many new bands looking up the many singers featured on this album.

What's the story behind Hansi causing hurricane Katrina?
I can watch stuff like this the whole day.
Arjen: i was small once.
Those a capella vocals sound awesome, especially with all the harmonies.
God, Daniel's voice is so freaking awesome.
I love the bloopers at the end. "Now's the time to rise up from a hell.... ah, bollocks". xD

Arjen's music is irresistible
Sidenote: Bob Catley rocks out beside Tobias Sammet. And the Fifith Extinction is my favorite song of Ayreon.
9.20: Okay, now I'm gonna add the drums...
yeah... I'm still waiting for the drums... LOOL
Have to confess, I stopped waiting... ;-)
I'm a FISH!!!!!
Fuck it!!!

I laughed so hard at the "I'm a fish! Fuck it!"

Can you please add a list
of the singers and their related bands that Arjen lists off?
Tom S. Englund (Evergrey)
Steve Lee (Gotthard)
Daniel Gildenlöw (Pain of Salvation)
Bob Catley (Magnum)
Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian)
I'll never hear that song the same again! #imafish #fuckit!

Fish aliens!? I never knew that xD I just thought they looked like us.
I would like to listen to the song just made of the voices, without any instrument in it.

which program is he using? please someone tell me.
my best guess would be Pro Tools... compare the video at 5:49, 6:43 and 7:43 with some screenshots, at this resolution I can't be really sure...
Yes he is using pro tools :) he mentioned it in another dutch video.
