Outside the explosion of Hulkamania, IMO 1997 was the best year creatively in WWF/E history. There was an energy from mid 1997 to mid 1998 that was unmatched.
Best runs in WWF/E history 1. Spring 85 to WM 87 2. Royal Rumble 97 to SummerSlam 98 3. Royal Rumble 2000 to WM 17 4. WM 19 - SummerSlam 2005 5. WM 5 to SummerSlam 1992
@@mikeabel7577 While I disagree about the early and mid 00s since certain performers were beyond excellent(Undertaker, Shawn Michaels), the overall product was completely stale, there is something about 89-92 that was special to me, especially 89. IMO the boom period creatively ended Survivor Series 99. HHH looking back was great but the overall creative just kept trying to recreate 1998 and failed.
@Matt M 1989 was the year that made me a wrestling fan. Savage, Warrior, Boss Man, Akeem, Rick Rude, Jake Roberts, Dibiase, and of course, Hogan were all at the top of their game. The tag team division was as good as it's ever been. Hart Foundation, Demolition, Brain Busters, Rockers, Twin Towers, and the Mega Powers. As good as Raw was in the late 90's I think Saturday Night's Main Event in 1989 and 1990 is probably the best television a pro wrestling company has ever produced.

Funny how 2 of the most famous things in Mick's career are represented here - 1 Davey Boy (after Mick got his jaw broken by Dynamite when he wrestled the Bulldogs with Les Thornton) and 2 Vader (the ear incident)

Rewatching this one a couple days ago I was almost in tears laughing at the Chicago street fight. It's one of the most chaotic matches WWE has ever staged. It's ridiculous. They don't pace their spots out like in a Rumble, it's just everyone smashing everyone at the same time.
@@matthewhenningervonada9914 I feel you, but then history as we know it would be completely different lol. @@matthewhenningervonada9914 Er, no they couldn't have. Bret was a returning babyface at survivor series, Austin was only starting the catch on, but he was still a total heel. Makes no sense to turn either of them at survivor series.

But honestly, having seen this review for the show, it does make me thing I should give it a go and maybe I should judge it myself instead. Great job, keep up the amazing work.
I thought Rocky's finisher at that time was a shoulder breaker.
It was when he first started out . When he made his debut as Rocky Maivia he used the shoulder breaker was his finisher but he only used it for a short time, then he changed it and started using the Rock Bottom when he turned heel joined the Nation of Domination
The didn't do the rock bottom when he turned heel he did a half Nelson slam that's what he hit Ahmed Johnson with when he came back
The rock:the originator of the rollup.
Nobody could rollup like em.
@@Villion77He literally turned heel by doing a Rock Bottom on Crush during his match with Farooq.
I loved the intro this was my first vhs Christmas present for 1997
Outside the explosion of Hulkamania, IMO 1997 was the best year creatively in WWF/E history. There was an energy from mid 1997 to mid 1998 that was unmatched.
Best runs in WWF/E history
1. Spring 85 to WM 87
2. Royal Rumble 97 to SummerSlam 98
3. Royal Rumble 2000 to WM 17
4. WM 19 - SummerSlam 2005
@@mikeabel7577 SNME had one advantage though. With basically every match being a jobber squash match back then, it was rare to get to see matches like they had on SNME. They were almost like PPVs, which were also rare back then.
THANK YOU. I can do a marathon watching this stuff, I love your insights on every match, and ratings, final grades, etc. I mean I know a lot of history, but nothing like this (I have the 'Mania Anthology, plus 22 on vhs, 'Mania 23-35, 37 & 38 on disc, and just ordered WM 36). Huge kudos for putting all these together. Austin/Bret deserves 5 stars, I totally agree. If there was another big match on the show, it'd get out of that bottom tier of 'Manias. But they still saved it.
Huh, so Sid *was* doing second-rope moves before the infamous WCW... thing. I genuinely didn't know that.
Axe handle was fine, that flying clothesline was a mistake but still more reasonable than a big boot.
@@OtakuD50 Should have done the Kane Pounce or Batista Torpedo
Been looking forward to this one so much. I was 9 and it was first Mania I watched. I loved the Chicago street fight and as Undertaker was the reason I started watching I was so happy he won the title so it’ll always be awesome to me. Love the content Z man.
Well at least thanks to,Shawn ego and him "losing his smile" we got a terrific sumbmission match between Austin and hart
And the piece of crap that was taker and sid. Couldn't we have bret vs taker instead?
Thanks for the review Brian
Fun Fact: They accidently used a real extinguisher in the Street Fight. It got all over the fans, and left a chemical smell for awhile.
Did the fans say anything or complained?
I think I remember hearing Bruce Prichard talking about it.
I guess that explains why the mat on the outside looked so white, usually when they use fire extinguishers in street fights they dont leave that much of a mess.
Vince was at his best as a commentator. He reminds me of a child, telling you the details about the stories of their toys, that they have been playing with all weekend.
I wish it had remained that way. Maybe he wouldn't be in the trouble he is (deservedly) in now.
Austin's iconic image of him with his bloody face was the cover of an issue of Raw magazine.
I would go with my parents grocery shopping just to look at the wrestling magazines and get ones that I wanted. My mom's first words when she saw the cover after I opened it was oh my! I said hell yeah well isn't that cool as hell?!!
Same!
Love it Zane. Cant wait for you to get around to mania 15. Never got around to seeing the whole thing before.
He already reviewed WrestleMania 15
Chris Breezy? Did Chris Brown recommend WrestleMania 13? The 🌎 may never know.
You are on fire man! So much amazing information and so funny. Love your videos they bring me such joy!
I remember The Headbangers wrestling Heath Slater and Rhyno on Smackdown 2016
Just subscribed to your channel n love how detailed at times you get. I was a child when all this stuff happened so some stuff is blurry. Need to see if you've done more videos like this cuz I really enjoyed this
Austin vs Bret is my favorite match of all time. I’ve seen it more times than any other match.
That was when wrestling was good, I quit watching when Brock beat Taker. Long comment sorry & going to get into some personal stuff, but I found you're channel about 5 years ago & subscribed, but a few months later I was hit by a car & in the hospital for a few weeks it broke vertebra in my neck, cracked my skull & de-gloved my scalp, cracked my right shoulder blade almost in half & broke my left leg & shattered my ankle so now I can't work or get out much so I get lonely & bored, had to move back in with my parents & all we have is Direct TV & there's never anything on so now I just watch RUclips on my Xbox & talking to my therapist, my medication, weed & you're videos help with my loneliness & boredom & I just wanted to say thank you for that
15:33 reminds me of Megatron tackling Optimus Prime to the ground to begin their final fight in Transformers: The Movie 😃
Transformers The Movie me think of when CM Punk made that John Laurinaitis tribute video at The Slammys set to The Touch by Stan Bush
The virgin Shawn: *visibly confused by laptop*
The chad Bret: *fixes Midway's code for Wrestlemania the Arcade Game*
WrestleMania 13 is the perfect example of a one-match show
Couldn't we have hart and taker instead?
@@matthewhenningervonada9914 Why does it matter? We got Hart vs Taker at SummerSlam. Also remember that the original plan for this Mania was the rematch between Bret and Shawn. Then Shawn went full twat mode and plans had to change quickly. Storyline wise, Austin and Bret really made more sense in this moment.
@@KairiPrime So? I wanted to see taker beat bret at least once during that era. Then summerslam bret can gain it back.
Funny how 2 of the most famous things in Mick's career are represented here - 1 Davey Boy (after Mick got his jaw broken by Dynamite when he wrestled the Bulldogs with Les Thornton) and 2 Vader (the ear incident)
Not gonna lie, I cackled at the Sycho Sid impression 🤣🤣
Still GOAT non main event mania match ever. The rest of the show summed up late 96/early 97 WWF, thankfully things improved a lot by the summer / fall 97.
"Austin Crab" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Always happy to say I was here for this show live.
I wonder what USA Network thought about Bret Hart snapping just days before Wrestlemania
Frustrated wasn't the goddamned word for it!
They thought it was bullshit
For me, wrestlemania 13 holds a special place in my heart. I was in 3rd grade at the time, and this was my very first ever wrestling event that I attended. I am very proud to be one of the 18,197 fans in attendance sitting alongside my dad and uncle (rip to the 2 men who got me into wrestling) at the time, I thought this was the coolest thing ever, looking back all these years later....yeah I would agree, except for Austin/Hart, this mania kind of sucked. But for me, it's the memories of being there with my dad and uncle and just having a blast. I'm glad this wrestlemania finally got a review in here. Nice job Brian
Bret stepping over the glass is cool
It’s always a great day with a new Classic PPV Review
Rewatching this one a couple days ago I was almost in tears laughing at the Chicago street fight. It's one of the most chaotic matches WWE has ever staged. It's ridiculous. They don't pace their spots out like in a Rumble, it's just everyone smashing everyone at the same time.
I watch it for the pop because it’s Chicago and the LOD are Chicago royalty, and they never disappoint, but it’s still a great fun clusterfuck
I will never get tired of your Captain Lou impression Zane!
This Wrestlemania is the definition of a One Match Show
Couldn't we have taker vs hart instead?
@@matthewhenningervonada9914 I feel you, but then history as we know it would be completely different lol. This made Austin completely bulletproof for the rest of his career, since his Rumble win had an asterisk. If HBK didn’t bury Vader and had Vader stayed in shape, he could have had the Taker match here instead tbh.
@@silversoulken Then what the crap happen at survivor series?Couldn't they pull it off at that ppv?
@@matthewhenningervonada9914 Er, no they couldn't have. Bret was a returning babyface at survivor series, Austin was only starting the catch on, but he was still a total heel. Makes no sense to turn either of them at survivor series.
So is the 1st WM
22:31 he was so being Scarface from Half Baked!! 😂😂😂
Triple H vs Goldust was the signal of a new era in wrestling
Triple H is one of the best heels ever.
The most important match in WWF/WWE history is the I Quit match between Austin and Hart.
Technically, it was a "Submission" match, not an "I Quit" match. But it still remains the greatest match in WWF history.
I always thought it was warlord v bulldog
@@howardsimcox5596 LOL good one
No offense, but I just think... why? Couldn't we have this match at survivor series, make hart the heel at Wrestlemania for taker to beat him there?
Hogan/Andre 'Mania 3. Well this one truly got Austin well loved and respected by the fans while they turned on Bret.
To me Bret vs Austin is the true beginning of the Attitude Era, All of the Attitude era main events follow this formula of Brawling on the outside and having a swerve finish in the ring.
3:05 One might say he was... Barely Windham.
I'll show myself out...
I laughed too hard at this.
I was one of those 18,197 folks in attendance that night. Granted it was Row Q Seat 43, but still was fun night, and thus far the only WrestleMania I've been to. The best part was during the six-man tag, some drunk guy in front of us yelled "Nation of Cowards!" and "Ahmed is one of God's children!" lol.
Tony Atlas and Rocky Johnson did alledgedly hate eachother.....maybe Tony didn't want to share the ring with Rocky Johnson?
Big Thanks for the Jon Lovitz reference, Brian ❤
I never not smile when I hear the z man shout billy bily billy
22:31 - Perfect description of 1997 Bret Hart 😎

The Brett Hart/Stone Cold angle was incredible. The months of set up to this match, culminating in the final sharpshooter with colour was the first time i remember I was absolutely speechless!
Shawn Michaels never ending war with technology
Lost his smile and his use of techology
Started the video and probably double tapped back a few dozen times just to hear Sid say it again before I got to the rest of the video. 😂🤣😂
Loved the shout out to WWF Wrestlemania and No Mercy, and WCW/NWO Revenge for N64. R + B = clothesline from a squat.
Been waiting on this WM review from you.
It’s crazy to think that Dustin Rhodes is STILL wrestling as of this comment in early 2023. And it’s even crazier when you consider that Rhodes in 1997 was no rookie. He even put on a five star match with his brother a couple of years ago at basically 50 years old. The longevity is remarkable.
“Violently booped in the snoot” is my new favorite phrase
The main event was crap
How do you know
Because Sid crapped on his trunks
Good review. I didn’t watch this until several years later. Even with the Monday Night War going on, I just wasn’t into wrestling at the time. Didn’t help that I was stationed on a ship that was out to sea half of the time. I missed a lot of 90s culture
"If you put the letter 'S' in front of Hitman, you have my exact opinion of Bret Hart
