No. The large sides of the cab are actually solid, single-cast translucent plastic pieces (but painted to the point it only was cast transparent for two small windows) that incorporate the rounded sides of the cab 'face' itself. The most recent platinum release actually leaves these unpainted clear plastic to get as close to hiding them as possible without retooling the mold, but in the process the alt. mode looks kinda unfinished as half the cab now is left without color.
The combined weapon can also be moved over the shoulders to become shoulder cannons. I got the Ultra Magnus repaint of the guy on sale for like 20$ was kind of like getting Skywarp (came with it in the two-pack.) for free
I think they were 25$ then. I was going to get Optimus Prime that day, but getting the same figure (Repainted though) plus Skywarp for less then just Optimus by himself... I didn't have to think much on that. When I did collect I got a lot of good deals in sales.
In fact, I remember that being the official option, combining the two bits as shoulder mounted weapons and not as weapon storage. ^^ I liked to have Optimus wielding the two guns while my Magnus did the shoulder mounted guns to help further distinguish them.
There was a fans project add on to the white mold of this toy, that acted like armor, and made him look like ultra Magnus. And it is the coolest add on to a transformer I've ever seen (it's expensive and hard to find, otherwise I would have had it by now)
i got that Classics Voyager Optimus Prime when it was dun up to look closer to the g1 toy when they released it for transformers 4 as a toys r us exisve. and i found that the gun that came with Transformers generations orion pax, fit real well with Classics Voyager Optimus Prime.
only problem i have with this figure is the fake grill and terrible backpack. i also feel like they could've done more with the arm kibble but that's not quite as glaring to me.

I don't know if it's time or your camera or your particular toy but the yellow on mine is a bit more muted, at least for the robot parts. You can also keep the guns connected to the vane and have over-the-shoulder guns, which is cool when Op's in a hurry. This is my favorite take on G1 Prime. Masterpiece is cool and all but this feels like an upgraded Optimus Prime due to looking more like a modern trailer cab.

The only version of this mold I own is nemesis prime, who I got on my 6th birthday, and to this day I still have him excellent condition with all the accessories. Even at six years old I know how to treat my toys right.
I, on the other hand, was the opposite. I got mine back in '07 I think and I've managed to lose the guns, side panels and the front wheels #TroublesOfBeingAPlayfulKid
If only when I was 6 I knew how to treat my figures right... I am only 13 currently, but I think I've lost so many Transformers Prime figures due to me playing with them so much. My set of Combiner Wars Menasor is very roughed up, lots of joints are loose, one of Motormaster's left ratchet joints broke. Still have all of them mostly completed, just missing a couple wheels.
Ya know, I like this mold so much that if the-powers-that-be decide we need a third Masterpiece version of Optimus Prime in the future, I think I would like it to be based on this and not the original.
I think this mold and especially the new Siege mold are the best G1 inspired figures made by Hasbro at this point. Outside of any Masterpiece Primes of course.
there is only one issue wit the toy, the clear plastic sides, if they were solid plastic ten it would be a great figure, but wit the clear plastic, its only a good figure as they stand

i have the japanese version! But a cousin ruined the chrome and some of the paint apps... If you are wondering, my dad gave him the toy when i wasnt home.
The only things that bother me are the overabundance of yellow, the black hands and the blue on the shoulders. Luckily Henkei Convoy fixes all of this.
Heheh, nice. I find it funny they did the whole Gundam vulcan cannons thing on his head (and the kibble on his arms sorta reminds me of the shoulder shields seen on a number of Zeon mobile suits). Compared to a lot of other versions of Optimus Prime, even without his weapons, he really looks ready for war!
This is still one of my favorite Classic toys, I have the original and it is still holding strong apart from some paint scratches but only minor ones, I just say it's battle damage. Great review TJ
+Oscar Perez a lot of people do though when it's CHUG g1 they don't want an beefy prime heck barely not too many optimus primes become some kinda of musclicular dude....
I own the Toys R Us exclusive 'Evolutions' version (2014 release with a paint job so G1 it even has the chrome in the right places) that was packaged under the AoE line with a variant of the Evasion Mode Prime, and without question the older toy is far, FAR better in every way even with signs of mold wear. The smokestack gun hinges are not the most solid things ever and the large cab kibble on the arms tend to be a bit loose on the rotational joint used to position them properly in robot mode, but otherwise as of 2014 I can safely say the Classics Prime voyager mold is still fabulous even a decade later.
i hate this mold, i had the two pack with the aoe evasion, but i just sold the classics, i admit the quality was great and paint on that version was cool and all but the design is not g1 enough is not moder enough, i dont know the panels on the arms, , some of the proportion, the transformation, many of the detail, i just dont like it, but i understand why some people do, because it is not a bad figure, i dont like it but it isnt bad by any means
for some people but i honestly dont feel anything for the design, though i can totally recomend some of the repaints because really, some are just so well done
Great review, I would love to track down the Shattered Glass use of this mould. I've got the one from the AOE two pack and his joints are pretty tight, fyi. Side note: I'm looking forward to picking up the downsized (voyager sized) MP10 soon. Probably the only figure that could replace this guy.

This prime looks great in vehicle mode but has too much extra kibble that makes the robot mode lackluster. I've always preferred the more square cab design Optimus had.
Ben H If you mean the G1 toy. That has the excuse of being one of the first transformer toys created. Barely any of the g1 toys had any exact resemblance to there cartoon counterparts

this is one of the best primes but the Voyager sized Mp-10 which is slightly taller than this voyager prime, is better in my opinion

While I do think this guys kind of been beaten out by both the Siege and Earthrise Primes, it's still classic (heh) figure.

its not supposed to be g1 its supposed to be CHUG so why is it supposed to be g1 optimus prime plus you cannot denine the fact it's a great mold

As Jetfire said, it's not supposed to be an exact copy of the G1 design. The point of CHUG was to give us G1 characters but updated.

I just can't like this guy. The doors on the arms just hanging off the arms just looks bad on a prime Imho.
It's a bit of a blemish sure, but you can't deny how good the rest of the toy looks. It still looks better than most modern Optimus Prime toys.

I have the new version, the one from the two-pack with evasion mode OP. I like it more, the paint scheme is better in my opinion
