I feel like the Starscream looking like a good guy thing is because based off the synosis for the game, the Quintessons took over Earth and in this post-apocalyptic world, the Autobots and Decepticons put aside their differences and team up with the humans to oppose the Quintessons
At least this soundwave actually turned into something, unlike bb movie soundwave and wfc siege soundwave

Reactivate prime solves my biggest irrational peeve for any modern Optimus, rotating the waist for the transformation. The way they managed the legs was cool too, and he just is cool. All he needed is fingers to actually hold the matrix with, or sculpted open hands.

Yeah, the fact that you don't swivel the waist, is a pretty cool change. When the legs do the work rather than the waist, it's so much better.

The Reactivate game will be killer, the sickest thing since FOC! This Optimus looks so sick, the post-apocalyptic look really makes him look like a more hardened survivor and leader. Soundwave looks a little thin to me but still cool. Can’t wait for the game!
I just hope it comes out at all at this point.
I do think that it does have a beta test ready for May? I have only heard this though from a few people.

This is such a cool set. Optimus is worth the price of admission alone, getting Soundwave on top of that is just gravy. I really hope we get a Megatron in this style, pair him up with Ironhide and that’d just be perfect.

A lot of people also mention that battle damage paint in Optimus Prime´s front bumper. He´s ran over multiple enemies, and crushed them.

I would've preferred that Optimus have long-nose truck as his alternate mode.
I actually find that kind of Truck really ugly, so I will always prefer the flat faced, bulldog cab.

I got these two with some Birthday money in January and I friggin' love these two. I've never had a Soundwave prior to this and while it may not be one with the chest window function, I'd still say it's a solid start to owning the character. And Prime? I've not enjoyed a Prime like this since SS38 Bumblebee Movie Optimus

The 2 pack looks great! The only 2 nitpicks I have not mentioned here, perhaps because you don’t share my feelings about these VERY minor nitpicks, or I suppose one: this semi nitpick is that there’s a radar dish which I believe was supposed to be Laserbeak, doesn’t transform because of the size and price point, but it would have been nice. The real nitpick I have, which again, you might not share feelings of, but hear me out, the shin vents are on top of the truck bed, which is what I’ve seen almost every Optimus toy. These vents on the original Diaclone toy is supposed to be below the truck bed.
An interesting point about the shin vents, though I can't say I'm too broken up about it since it's on like EVERY version of him. Though yeah it is funny that they are on most of them.
Some of the only ones to not do that are the new Magic Square versions.
And yeah a Soundwave doesn't feel complete without a Laser Beak.
Darn, that TFCon is one I'm not able to go too because it's too far, would definitely love to see you in person, I got to meet Bobby Skullface, Alec Willows (Tarantulas actor), and Ian James Corlett (Cheetor actor) at the last one I went.
Oh and those figures are pretty cool too.

Also I have a pretty cool theory for the game that also might explain why these 2 were put together
I think Soundwave is going to be leading the Decepticons at the start and Megatron will show up later in the story, either he’s being controlled by the Quintessons and you have to fight him to put him back to normal, or he’s not even on earth and he’ll surprise the player when they least expect it, during a mission where it looks like the characters are going to lose
(Also going to my first convention this year, I’ll be at TF Nation)
I could see a Controlled Megatron being one of the Bosses you have to fight yeah. Good call on that.

I’ve been kind of surprised with the amount of work that’s been put into these Reactivate figures, especially since the game isn’t even out yet.
For the Optimus Prime, he is definitely the largest voyager Optimus we’ve gotten in a while. And other than a few minor design details I have an issue with (such as I think his eyes should have been bigger), this figure and the SS 102 have easily become my top 2 favorite Hasbro-made Optimus figures that I own (Yes, I finally got the official SS 102; I had a gift card from Christmas and found some copies of him being sold around $50, so I took my chance).
If I had to compare the two of them I’d say they’re kind of tied in terms of posability, with each of them having an aspect of articulation that the other lacks (ex: 102 having better feet movement and a technical ab-crunch while Reactivate has better shoulder movement with more range in how far back his legs can move). Reactivate has the overall better truck mode and leg transformation, with the 102 having the better upper body/truck cab transformation (the clearance issues on the Reactivate transformation are really not that fun). In terms of plastic quality, they’re both pretty good, though I do prefer the feel of the 102’s plastic a bit more. Reactivate ultimately has the better accessories (while I like the sword 102 comes with his hand gun really is a dinky little thing). And then I’m a little tied on their robot modes since I like both of them.
Overall, getting this two pack and the SS 102 has been a great start to 2024 for me.

Ben Custom Toys gave a really cool paint job to this soundwave a month or so ago, making what at first looks like a disproportionate figure feel like an awesome, deliberately stylized piece straight out of Nick Roche's sketchbook. Really shows that there's a truly badass design somewhere in the toy.
As for Prime, I too love how hench he looks. I don't even mind the super busy faceplace, and usually I prefer my primes to have more simplistic masks, lest they start looking like cartoonish beaks. I only wish his toes were a little less pointy, as that probably makes putting him in running poses a bit of a hussle. WFC was really good about giving most of its toys this nice wide and fat toes to balance on top of even when they had cheaped out on the ankle pivots. Otherwise, this is one of my favorite geewunnish Primes next to Siege and Volvo.
So what did you do to customize him?
I don't find the Faceplate Super Busy here, I just don't like the way it's rounded in the cheeks. It should be a more mechanical shape.

@@PerspectiveEnd Sorry, I might've worded my comment weird, the customized Soundwave I was talking about was made by Ben Custom Toys. I've yet to do a lot witht he reactivate figures I've gotten, though I do intend on painting Prime's greys a nice silver or gunmetal grey.
Oh yeah, I see what you mean with the mask being a little roundish. Usually it prefer it more squarish myself, but somehow it works really nice here. Reminds me a little bit of the headsculpt of PoTP Nemesis Prime, who looks like he's sporting the world's most shit eating, sadistic grin under his faceplate.

This Prime has what the ROTB version was lacking. Soundwave is also a cool reimagining. The Achilles heel of the big figures from the multi-packs to me are the faces, but otherwise are not as bad as sad cat Starscream or Chin-Mouthed Optimus from the Bay films. Also, I now have most of the currently released 86 Dinobots except for Slag.
By the RotB one do you mean the Mainline of Studio Series?

The fact these 2 sets are 2 years old is insane.
Soundwave is probably my favourite of the two? It works for me so well, it’s become my display Soundwave.
Optimus took so long to grow on me. It was so tight and some of the panels were so sharp out of the box it actually cut my finger during transformation. I just had to work the joints and now he’s really good, but he’s not my favourite Prime of the last few years like he is for most people.
I do definitely prefer the Bee and Screamer pack for sure though.
Also a fun thing I noticed while transforming Prime, his legs get longer going into truck mode and get a bit shorter in robot mode.

honestly this is like the one optimus design that justifies a nemesis repaint in my eyes
it always looks ridiculous on the other molds because his silhouette is just so heroic that red and black can't make it look evil
but here it makes perfect sense
the guy already looks like if bay's version of prime ripped off even more faces and also loved to crush people under his wheels in alt mode so making it a bad guy definitely tracks

Indeed it is very likely at this point, not surprising though.
I did fix my Optimus’s blaster peg. I cut off my spare Siege Prime’s axe storage peg and Gorilla Glued it onto the blaster’s peg and it’s now working a dream. If anyone tried this, let the glue dry for at least three days and BE CAREFUL when putting it in and taking it out of Prime’s hands
That is not a bad idea, you could also use Plastic Cement.
Think that Optimus might end up on the best of year list.

You have made me want 2 things we can't have:
1) Redeco this Optimus into Doom Slayer
2) Redo all the CGI in the Bay films with better character designs. Like this Optimus.
While expensive, that last one could be a way for Hasbro to milk... er... convince customers to keep rebuying the same films. Use it to promote existing lines and past lines as nostalgia bait, just by redoing the Transformers.
Does look promising... might get it if I find them for cheaper since here in Sweden they cost like 900 sek or more, which is like 90 dollars.
Ouch. Yeah that's Brutal. I wouldn't want to pay that for these.
@@PerspectiveEnd Precisely. It's even worse when Titan Class like Tidal Wave is like over 3000 sek (around 300 dollars), or Deluxe class is priced at 40 bucks, Voyager is 60 bucks and leader class is like 80 to 90 bucks (no joke).
And for something that's for 8+, it's unacceptable which makes me not pay these Hasbro products anymore for that reason (plus that most of their products, not all, feel like knockoffs than actual ko).
People are like “You hate bayverse prime cause he’s too tough and gruesome for you” but for me personally, I just think it’s never been done right. THIS is what I want out of a prime who would rip someone’s head off.

Idea...what about an Optimus Prime based on the cgi model in the Beast Wars episodes where we see him in the Ark.
I mean that was mostly a G1 version, but it would be an interesting alternate paintscheme for some.
Wierd how both my favorite optimus figures [reactivate and evasion mode] are the only optimus primes with actual necks love me some necks in my transformers. Also I recommend painting the inside of his chest windows silver or metallic blue definitely looks cooler than seeing earthrise matrix for the 10th time peeking through his chest. Also good vid was excited to see this review and like this optimus I wasnt disappointed
I feel like they all have necks, but it is more pronounced here than normal.

As for reactivate, I am not a huge fan of the soundwave, there are things to like, but nothing amazing. But Optimus looks fucking amazing and I can’t wait to get him.
One more thing I think bears mentioning are the perfect joint tolerances on these two. Everything is tight but moves nice and smoothly.

My definitive optimus will always be IDW, but this one is close.
I love the way both of these figures look. I have this weird feeling the game they come from will either be mid as hell, or end up being a monetized mess that’s only fun with friends, so I wasn’t super into buying these two. But a great Optimus is a great Optimus, and Soundwave looks way better than the promotional material made him appear.
Considering how brutal and violent this Optimus looks, I can easily see them selling Nemesis and Shattered Glass versions of him. This game will likely have alternate skins available for the characters, so these particular repaints would actually make sense.
I get the feeling that yes it will probably be monetized to hell.

I don't know what it is, but none of these Reactivate figures grab me. I feel like I'm missing something. Or maybe it's just not my aesthetic. But I've heard so many people gush about the Prime and just looking at it my only thought is "Yeah it's ok I guess". I can't even describe what I don't like. I just don't feel the *vibe* and it makes me wonder what everyone else is seeing that I'm missing

This is THE ULTIMATE G1 STYLE OPTIMUS, Hands Down. I really want to get this set just for Optimus alone.
I wouldn't even call this G1 Style. Its it's own new thing.
I knew you wer gonna love this guy. But that rifle grip.... I have a printed G1 style I gave ER prime, but since this guy took that one's place as the centerpiece just in front of legacy armada prime, and just behind orion pax, he gets the rifle, ER gets the shelf labelled "other" lol
