Sandals are often maligned as inappropriate/inferior, especially by those living in western countries. The thing is, sandals are usually the go to form of footwear in much of Southeast Asia due to the climate. They serve a functional purpose, allowing your feet ventilation in the heat and humidity, while allowing them to easily dry off during the wet season. If you intend to do a lot of sightseeing, there is nothing better than a pair of fisherman sandals. It is perfectly acceptable to visit a temple in, for example, Thailand wearing sandals, whereas shorts and sleeveless shirts are a definite no-no.
Having said that, there is a time and a place for everything. Wearing sandals of any kind at a work/business environment would most certainly be frowned upon, with leather dress shoes being the appropriate norm.

    • @anthonyvera8524

@@anthonyvera8524 No. Where did I say that? I meant that fisherman sandals are ideal in a hot, tropical climate when you need to do a lot of walking but simultaneously want ventilation and a secure foothold.
I suppose you don't live in a tropical climate and have never heard of the term ''jungle rot''. Then you obviously have no idea what I'm talking about.
There is a big difference between doing a lot of walking in a temperate climate and doing so in a humid one, which was the point of my post.

@@anthonyvera8524 Fair point. But I never mentioned flip-flops. I concur that they should only be worn when you're cleaning the bathroom or something, along with Crocs.
There is a time and a place for everything. Would I ever wear sandals to work, when on a date, or any other important occasion? Hell no. I don't care how hot it is.
I equate sandals w/ sneakers, to be worn in situations when you are:
      A. Exercising.
      B. Are a child.
In which case, I would also deem sneakers as ''slovenly''.

Finally, someone said it. I live in hot, tropical climate and I prefer shorts and slippers. And I wear kinda semi formal chino shorts and slippers/flip flops that are kind of the style of Kolhapuri chappals here in India. It's a minimal look with high quality leather.
The world is euro centric. They may need it for cold weathers but we don't. But even we have to wear shoes to the office. I don't get why only suits and shoes which are a Western world thing only considered formal and classy and everything else is looked down upon.
People are dumb to follow styles that are not suited for our climate. I've literally seen the feet of half of people smell because of wearing shoes in this hot and humid climate.
And women complain that we shame them for wearing short clothes (which I personally have no problem with) but they can't even handle seeing any part of our body except the face and hands.

You brought up something that I think is very important and that's for hygiene/social acceptance.
A lot of men would "mindlessly" put on sandals for the sake of convenience/comfort and somehow not think twice/care about how their feet might look in the eyes of the public but it really is something men and women subconsciously look at. Men really need to take care of their feet. A lot of women absolutely hate seeing men barefoot because of bad foot hygiene and aren't masculine looking. I'm a sandal guy and either have been complimented on my feet or my choice of sandals and it sucks having the guy next to me ruin it with his nasty looking feet with worn out sandals.
**On a side note. I've actually had more men stare at my sandals/feet and have asked about my sandals more than women do. Women naturally go out in public wearing any sort of open toe shoe but for men it's like this weird socially unacceptable thing that men have to always wear a closed toe shoe otherwise it's not masculine or fashionable enough. Men having interest in trying to get into sandals is like frowned upon (mostly from women) and to me it's making men prone being shy to show their toes in public and encourage to take care of their feet. It's a weird double standard.

Socks with sandals.. For the Win! ;)
Nothing wrong with socks with sandals!
You forgot one important thing... Sizing/Proper fit!
Toes should Not be hanging over the top of the sandals!
It's harder to gauge the fit when it's the closed-end sandals type as the enclosure is relatively hard so can't really press down to see how much of a thumb's width is seen.
If one wears sandals, one should keep proper hygiene as some men don't clean their feet well or cut their toenails.

Pedicures are usually a bad idea. Toenail fungus can easily spread from client to client on contaminated pedicure tools. As for toenail fungus: tea tree oil and iodine. It may not work but it's worth a shot.

    • @jayare6351

Almost 80% of guys get toe nail fungus because of higyene; a bunch of guys don't cut or clean toe nails regularly; they don't have more than 1 pair of shoes; some of them have high sugar levels and they don't know, pedicures don't give fungus, pedicures prevent callous, fungus and bad odor, off course if you go to unsanitary place off course anybody can get fungus or something else, make sure that the place is safe and clean that's all. Pedicures are good for men and women. Using Sandals without socks is good for your feet, especially if you use formal shoes for more than 8 hours for 7 days!!! Dark and sweet is a perfect recipe for fungus!!!

    I'm sorry no sandals...just no.
I'm too paranoid to wear something like that. When you are out in the world, sh** can happen or pop off just like that.
You cannot be prepared for whatever may happen with some sandals on your feet. What if you have to run to or run from a situation...than what.
To me sandals look lazy, nieve, and unprepared for the unexpected. A man should not be running around in sandals.
I do understand that in some cultures, sandals are the norm because they don't wear shoes inside, and sandals are easy to take on and off.
However, for me I can't do it, my feet must be protected when I am outside. Without my feet, I'm helpless, I can't be mobile without them, so they must be protected by being covered.

Absolutely nobody looks good in a hoodie. And sandals are not shoes. They are whats left of shoes when you've worn them to long. There is absolutely no way to make sandals rock. So... i say where socks with them. Theres no way to fix it anyway so might as well rock the sandals and socks. Its like crocks. You secretly have crocks in the closet but you cannot where those in public. There is no style. You cannot fix that.
