We've had a history of talented, kind, supportive crew here. They're more than employees, of course. KP came to us by way of a long-time friendship with Annie B. They met in high school, and somehow both ended up working in the wooden boat world.
KP comes to Acorn to Arabella with both sailing and carpentry experience, and has their 100 ton captain's license as well. After a couple of summers on schooner Mary Day out of Camden and then attending Carpenter's Boat Shop in 2004 in Pemaquid, Maine. We'll see KP's favorite tools, too.
Through KP's orientation, you'll also get a peek into the next steps for Arabella in the coming few months. What's up with the rest of the planking? What about laying the deck?

Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur boat builder building a 38' wooden boat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond-sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva.

Ive been watching this channel since the keel pour. I can’t say enough what a stress relief this channel is just watching the work get done and the people that come around.
That means a great deal, thank you very much! Happy Friday and we're glad you're on the journey with us!
This one and Sailing Uma are my go to channels to relax.
Me too! I find it a vicarious pleasure watching Arabella's build as a woodworker in a former life (and teacher) and KP will fit right in I believe, you can see it in her eyes, the passion she has for wooden boats and the professional skills she has learned will be a great asset to Steve and of course Arabella.
I think KP will fit right in, doesn't mind the camera, very personable, has a passion for this.
Love how KP interacts with the "audience". Welcome! I suggest bleeping words just in case ;-)
Wow KP. You are something else. Your passion for sailing and woodwork is astounding and moving. It is a pleasure to meet you. 🇻🇨
Hey KP, what a delight. I like the cut of your jib.
From "Lavatory Technician" to "Employee of the Month" in one week! Great work Steve!
I was finally able to participate in the T-shirt campaign and received my shirt this last week.
Keep up the great work, it is fantastic content.
Thanks for your support!
Have to admit it, I'm jealous. I wish I could squeeze a t-shirt into my tight disability budget.
I hope you enjoy your new shirt.
Congratulations on your receipt of it, and thanks for supporting the channel where other wish they could, but can only watch.
Welcomed abord, Gramps here. Be 89 in a montth so my sailing and building is long gone. I've been with Arabella, Tally ho and Salt & Yar since they started, and I just enjoy the buildTake care Gramps

The constant positive attitude and outlook on this channel is a Godsend in the current world uncertainty that we hear of daily. You guys are a tonic!
Wonderful story, KP! Welcome to Arabella.
Welcome KP! i had a brief opportunity to work with Steve and others at AtoA last year. Steve, Anne, and the volunteers I worked with were all amazing folks. I'm sure you will have a fantastic time.
Good morning crew! Welcome KP! Love your personality! Congratulations Steve for earning "Employee of the Month"! 😉
The sheer guiddyness is infectious! Fun to see the build through her new eyes!
We agree!
KP, you're delightful. Great episode Team Arabella! Looking forward to seeing the deck come together. Cheers!
First ten minutes were some of the best story-telling I’ve seen in a long time!
Wow, Thomas, thank you.
Sweet! It's good to see the good work.
KP's breaking of the fourth wall, when you talked about your 12" tall garboard bodes well for future videos. Welcome.
Steven, glad to see that you made “employee of the Month”. Keep up the good work, but you’ve got competition now!
KP seems a perfect fit for the completion of Arabella. And so pleasant to work with. I think her passion for her work will be catching.
Thanks for being here, Gramps!
What a great duo. Y’all are assembling a pretty elite squad!
Also a friend of mine got me the shirt as a gift and it’s awesome! Super comfy and lovely design as always. Thanks A2A!
What a thoughtful gift, and we’re grateful for the support! Cheers!
Woo Hoo! Happy Arabella day everyone! Welcome KP, nice to meet you.
Happy Friday!
ps. I don’t swear anymore either.
I don’t swear any less either tho.
Hahahahha
Really love hearing K.P. describe their motivation and passion. This has me all wistful for the days I used to work with my hands. Creating something that deserves to exist is just the best thing ever.
This amazing project, with such amazing human beings has easily become one of the most fascinating and captivating projects to watch on the you tubes. THANK YOU, all, so very much for sharing your journey with us.
Welcome to the family KP. I wish that you have all the fun you envisioned beforehand and more!
If the world was populated by KPs it would be so much better, what a likable person!
Welcome KP!!! Proudly wearing the crest today! Same hoodie here! Same blue! 🤙
Hooray! Thanks for your support!
KP, love the laugh and energy you bring along with your skills and knowledge. Welcome to the team.
Being someone who only wants to be on a boat to get from one fishing spot to a better one I watch this build religiously. The talent that migrates to this build is a joy to watch.🇺🇸🇨🇦🇺🇸
Thank you so much for watching!
I feel like KP is the embodiment of what my old Subaru would be if it were a person. 🤩
Yay KP! Good luck everyone
A warm welcome to KP! They seem like a great addition to the team! 😊
K.P. an interesting young lady with obvious skill and lots of passion, as with your previous help. K.P. will fit in very well. In other news, my A2A long sleeve tee-shirt arrived in the Great White North of Canada today. Beautiful design and really good quality.
Awesome! Thanks for your support!
God love a person who shows up with a box of chisels! My Hero!
Welcome Aboard KP !!!... Arabella will be proud to have your knowledge, your expertise, and your company to help her journey towards the seaways of the world ..
KP brings fresh expertise to Arabella and some MUCH needed comic relief! Perfect.
Great to see someone so enthusiastic and talented to join the project. It must feel like a treat to be working with another experienced pair of hands after all this time.
Very much so. Thanks and cheers!
Welcome KP i've been through Camden, you're absolutely right the schooners there were incredible. even back in 72.
O man I smiled just hearing her story. The passion and love she has for boats. You can just tell she a beautiful soul and positive vibe to her welcome aboard KP
yea, really love KP, excited for the future
Great to see the enthusiasm that KP has brought and loved the credit with Stephen as "Employee of the Month"
Good luck KP!
It's great how much Stephen researches everything...
I got my new shirt today... love it.
It's a huge part of the work that we can never ever show in videos. Glad you can see it! Happy Friday.
Auspicious frequencies on the addition of K.P., she is well liked by Akiva and displays the same reverence for tools as Steve. Welcome mate and we hope that your time with the project fulfills you. On the subject of spring, there are feet of snow piled against that tree and from the deep south that smacks of winter but let's do it!
Welcome KP!
A Big Warm Welcome to KP.
How cool is KP? Great addition to the project.
THE COOLEST. :)
From one KP to another KP, welcome onboard. 😊👍🏻
Over the top if you ask me. Wish Alex was still on the project, that's when the episodes were really good and interesting!!!!!
Well, thanks for checking in anyway. 👍🏼
It is amazing how people are able to do something that reveals a passion that they didn't know they had. A great journey story and now another passionate member of the build crew. Welcome KP and I am looking forward to work you will do with Steve on Arabella.
Hello KP. 👋😀
This is going to be something that you'll never forget. 🥳👍
welcome KP. realy enjoyed hearing why you like this life.
Beautiful schooner
My wife and I have always said on many occasions that things in life happen for a reason almost as if God or a close family member who passed on is helping you guide your journey in life and perhaps that is what brought people to you who helped you make your career choice. We truly believe that. Congrats on joining the team. I can see your passion and you will fit in just fine.
Welcome aboard KP! I can see such a definite spunk in you, an unbounding personality that will bring a unique energy to the crew! (scritch Akiva for me)
KP you're working with a master carpenter . Steve's knowledge of wood , tools and attention to detail has keep us watching since Arabella was an idea in his head . It will be very interesting watching the quality of your craftmanship . Welcome aboard now it's time to get with it !
30 seconds in and I like KP already lol
Welcome aboard KP!
KP seems like an incredibly grounded, likable person. I'm really looking forward to see more of them!
Steve seems to have been blessed with finding extraordinary help with this build. And KP is yet another example of a really good and capable addition to this team. I see a "Cuss Jar" somewhere in the boathouse soon.
I'm curious as to how you know already that she is "really good and capable" before she's even picked a tool up.
Well, Mike, the whole first half of the video is about qualifications and experience... maybe you skipped ahead. Maybe go back and peek at the images of the large restoration. We didn't mention the 100-ton captain's license (but wrote it in the description) and a slew of deliveries up and down the eastern seaboard and internationally to the Caribbean. Windjammer experience, which means fit-out, rigging, down rigging, maintenance. Maybe that's implied and not clear enough for some folks.
@@AcornToArabella No, I saw it all, thanks. I'm not questioning her abilities, qualifications or experience at all, simply questioning how a viewer can be effusive about her abilities before there is any sight of her working.
@@MikeAG333 Mike, I have 40 years experience in the trades, and I had my share of apprentices and co-workers. And I can say that one can garner a whole of of "capabiltiy" by the way a person presents themselves. Good character shows and pretty much goes hand in hand with ability. It also shows up as being a "good" person. Someone who knows their limits and is confident and humble at the same time. I stand by my take on all of this.
I was stuck in the doldrums for a minute there…. I didn’t give up and watched everything religiously!!! I just got really excited for you!!!! You can get wet in a year from now!!!! How amazing!!!! Acorn to Arabella just became acorn to adventure!!!! At least for me. I hope for a lot of your fans, patrons, supporters, and above all the people lucky enough to lay hands on her feel the same way!!!! Oh Man, so cool!!!!! Steve, Alex, Ann, Caroline, Arron, Akiva, lol… I am missing so many. Dream to reality!!!! What a wonderful accomplishment!!!! I am so proud of all of you and envious I was not able to put my hands on her myself!!!!!
perfect timing, as I was watching today's installment, my beautiful A2A hoodie arrived. I've been watching the whole process for about 3 years now, and my Friday isn't complete without it. Following you from St Catharines, Ontario.
Hooray! Thanks for your support!
Cool to see a new pro on the project.
Welcome to crew, KP. Looking forward to seeing your work. Thanks for sharing. From UK.
KP is a solid addition to the team. Bravo.
Welcome KP! I think you'll have a lot of fun helping Steve and putting the finishing touches on Arabella. Looking forward to seeing your handiwork and craftsmanship.
KP you will be a great asset to this team. Wood working has always been my greatest love that and computers. I built the case for my computer from wood. Cherry my favorite wood.
Glad to see that Stephen is employee of the month. Congratulations!
He’s worked so hard for it. Akiva wins it every month and it’s about damn time.
WOW. KP is a real find. Looking forward to see some of her craftsmanship. Progress will be made!
Stay healthy. Welcome aboard KP.
Great video. New crew member KP has bags of enthusiasm and no doubt skills. I look forward to the future videos.
KP will be an excellent addition for sure and I can’t wait to see the progress. Just a thought on the cutting of the staging. If you you only have to cut back to the support beam that is between the hull and the upper floor , why not design a retractable section using a cantilever type design. You pair up floor trusses with the ones supporting the upper floor allowing the to slide in and out the section between the carrier beam and hull.
Wow, that sounds fancy, Leif. Neat idea!
Well move over "Employee of the Month", there's a new gun in town. Welcome and good luck with the new digs KP! Cheers!
Yessss weekly dose starting now! Gday from down under. Can't wait for launch day. Welcome aboard KP!!!!
Happy Friday!!
@@AcornToArabella it certainly is. Taking a break from making handmade timber fishing lures to watch a handmade timber boat!!!
@@AcornToArabella would love to send you one for catching your dinner or lunch when she's ready to sail!
Wow, that’s very kind!
So exciting to have KP on board now that you are nearing the home stretch. Can't wait to see all the little intricacies get finished one by one.
Welcome KP! Great story and a great addition to the team!
Great choice on employee of the month 😆

Hi KP! I'm glad to "meet" you. I hope you enjoy your stay and all the work ahead. You seem ready to get started NOW! Lol. That's what A2A needs, someone knowledgeable, hard-working and friendly...like so many before you have been. You fit the bill nicely. I wish I were you for one day! I know Steve needs the help I'm sure. It won't be long you'll have summer gear on and can enjoy those warmer more comfortable days. I hope to see you alot in upcoming videos.
