I'm still at a loss that a Bandai Namco game came out in 2024 and isn't filled to the brim with issues and nickel-and-diming. It feels like I shifted timelines or something, I was 100% expecting this game to be a buggy filled mess with an in game shop to buy characters and outfits for real money, but it's an actual game that has real progression rewards, which is so rare from big titles these days. I knew I was gonna buy it as soon as I saw super saiyan 4, but after watching reviews, I'm actually excited to buy it. Really good video, I hope we can all continue to enjoy the game, and that it won't be ruined by greed later down the line.
One feature missing that was in previous Budokai Tenkaichi games is the ability to watch matches you're not participating in in Tournament Mode. I used to love watching those other matches as it felt more immersive, like I was actually participating in a tournament, rooting for someone and waiting my turn. Of course you didn't have to watch other matches if you didn't want to and just jump straight into yours but it was cool having that option to watch the other ones too. Hope they add this in a future update.
Something I never hear people talk about is how the Health Bar just DISAPPEARS sometimes when a super lands. Really hard to tell if it got blocked or if it did full damage
For me the difficulty in the episode battles feels like it’s tuned to emulate how hard or even easy it was for the characters in the actual anime. It feels hopeless to fight characters like Raditz, Great Ape Vegeta or Frieza (pre-Super Saiyan) as Goku the same way it feels easy to fight Nappa or Jeice and Burter. I know it’s flawed in some places but that doesn’t stop me from considering Sparking Zero as an option for Game of the Year in 2024. I love it and after a while the fights feel a little less tough the more I play (my old school Budokai Tenkaichi senses seem to be kicking back in)!
I like how everyone says the new control scheme is so modern but it's like, 90% the same as Raging Blast 2 (Not a complaint or critique, just an observation).

The vanish wars are trash, the balancing is trash, the cheese is trash, the online is trash, winning the fight doesn’t always progress the story in story mode which is extremely annoying. Its not a terrible game or anything, but it has massive blatant flaws that majorly bring it down.
I wonder if they brought back talent they lost since the old games to work on this? It shares so much DNA with the previous games and feels like a truly natural progression from BT3.

Everyone complaining about the 3rd fight in Goku’s story mode hasn’t done the training mode or beat one piece fighting games. That is truly harder than Dark Souls.
Downloading it right now, can't wait to play the story mode. Love both of Xenoverse story mode, but I did skipped Dragon Ball Kakarot since I more interest in versus mode.
The game is spectacular but flawed, voice acting feels off sometimes, Perfect Cell specifically, motion capture cutscene is a questionable decision, saying that it looks decent feels so wrong, it looks BAD and JANKY. I'm sorry if I'm acting like a hater but yeah, the game needs changes and criticism will do. Knowing the devs' reputation for costantly listening to fans' requests, I expect much more to come, maybe the character selection screen will receive a total rework once there are 200+ characters, scrolling through all those and find the character you want can be pretty annoying. I do hope that online matches won't go absolute boom boom upon launch, other than that good job Spike Chunsoft, Rare W from yall 🔥

There are still issues I have with this game. And things that acc impact the game. Input delay/ tracking/ the dragon dash is too slow for me/ when u beam clash the characters suddenly teleport in the air.
the couter mechanic is so stupid, why should you be able to counter 10 times in a row i know it costs a bit of ki but the AI especially seems to be able to do it infinitely

It got repetitive two hours into the game. Every fight feels the same. We honestly need budokai 1-3 mechanics in arena format. Bt is just button mashing boring fights.

Aside from all of that the game is definitely an interesting one.

They desperately need to increase character select time, there is a slight picking delay and the time it takes to constantly reselect filters add up.
If it helps at all you can hit right bumper on your controller and it will quickly switch to the next slot instantly.
My friend and I who play online always joke how we have to mentally pick our teams before we get to the character selection screen lol
