    Thank you so much for showing this technique, and for the info regarding keeping the chains short when plying. I am looking forward to to reading more on your blog, thank you for all of the links. Best wishes, Geraldine

      You’re welcome! I’ve never seen anyone doing this either but I came up with this when I was trying to think of different ways of spinning a blend from the side as opposed to the end.

    As a beginner i like how you made the roulgs thiner then normal i did this and it helped me be more concesent when I'm spinning😊

    • @KathrynCraftmehappy
      @KathrynCraftmehappy  6 месяцев назад

      Thank you! Yes, I do find thinner rolags are much easier to spin from. If I find that I'm struggling to draft out the rolags while I'm spinning I sometimes pre-draft the rolags, which can often make for a more relaxing spin.

    Such beautiful work. I am bursting with ideas of what to do with my stash. Your format is so helpful for those with hearing impairment or auditory processing issues. The visuals with a few words and music helps me to focus on the technique. Thank you so much.

    Such beautiful colours. You can spin really evenly and your chain ply is gorgeous. My chain ply is more like cord! 😊🧶

      Oh thank you so much. I’ve been spinning for decades but chain-plying I only really ‘clicked’ for me a few years ago. It does take some co-ordination but it will come eventually.
      If you’re struggling to chain-ply at the wheel, have you looked at making a chain-plied ball? I wrote a blog post about the two ways to chain-ply and the advantages of both.
      There’s a link here if you’d like to see www.craftmehappy.com/2022/11/chain-plying-at-wheel-versus-making.html

      @@KathrynCraftmehappy I had bought a great number of very spashie coloured braids of roving when I first started spinning and then promptly buried in my stash because the first one turned to mud when I spun it. I will now be unbury those braids to have a go at them this way and hopefully no more mud. Thank you! (A 100 gallon tote will be empty in no time)

      @@wklilly1 I haven’t got a wooden orifice reducer. I have a resin one that I made myself or you might be thinking of a pretty pottery one I’ve got that was made by @CharanSachar who’s a talented artist who works with both fibre and clay.

    I have a gorgeous blend called borealis, and I've had the worst time with it because there's yellow with both magenta and teal over and under (aka mud). I've tried separating it and while somewhat successful, I get really impatient with it given the ounces to work with. Wondering if I can do short bursts with the cards (no blending board) to get this lovely combo simulation of colors.

    • @KathrynCraftmehappy
      @KathrynCraftmehappy  Год назад +1

      I would have thought that this technique would work for short lengths on a hand carder. You just need to open the fibres up so that the colours are sitting next to each other rather than on top of each other.
      Alternatively you could try spinning from the fold. That definitely helps to keep the colours separate.

    • @Which-Craft
      @Which-Craft Год назад +1

      @@KathrynCraftmehappy from the fold has semi-worked but not completely. The roving is tightly packed, making separation/unfolding hard. but I think if it do it in short bursts instead of trying to do bigger batches, I might stand a chance with your example technique here.
