This is the best mini arcade console in the market right now. I paid full price 2 years ago. Got the extra carts and accessories including the trackball/spinner controller for Arkanoid . No regrets! Honestly investing on this is a much better deal than paying a couple hundred EACH for New Wave Toys and Numbskull mini arcades. Don't forget to update the firmware with a blank SD card. Glitches and latency issues were fixed ever since this came out.

I totally agree with it providing much more value than the Numskull - at least for my use case. We also have to understand that there are more use cases. I actually love the fact that Numskull Arcades are one game only and look like the original cabinet. I did buy a couple and sent them back. They had issues, took up way too much space and the prices were simply ridiculous. I am sure there will be some people with a lot of buyer's remorse on those machines, but also a lot who will love them. For me the price/quality/value ratio is way off.

Well said, and I can corroborate. Updating the firmware made a big difference as you said, including scaling the games to fit better on the screen. The lag (for me) was greatly improved when playing on the unit's screen (and played fine when using HDMI out).

Did the same and it really makes the Egret 2 Mini a full-blown console experience that has a permanent spot next to my TV now. I honestly play this like a console 99% of the time and I love it. Preordered Taito Classics Vol. 2 as well.

Egret Mini 2 is no joke.
Had one since it came out. You can tell Taito really put a lot of love into the system, in fact , they are still releasing games for it in game packs.
Way better than the Astro City mini, in which Sega just gave up on.

Great review! Another great option is the 8BitDo M30 2.4g wireless controller. That way you can kick back on the couch if you've got the Egret hooked up to your TV.

@@PDubsArcadeLoft You're welcome. :-) It's a great little controller. They specifically advertise it for the Genesis Mini, but I've tried it out on the Switch, PC, the Astro City Mini, and the Egret II Mini, and it works on all of them. 🙂
While it does work on the Switch I probably wouldn't recommend it without remapping the buttons, since the ABXY buttons are mapped Genesis style by default, which is the opposite of the Nintendo standard. Might work ok with NSO Genesis games, but I don't have NSO to test it out. You're better off using their SN30 Pro controller if you want a controller with the d-pad in the prominent position, since that one uses the Nintendo ABXY button mapping.

    • @figment1988

I was disappointed that the gamepad didnt work well or at all with other consoles. Hopefully these can work with other consoles so it feels like more bang for your buck.

    PDubs,
If Unico somehow figured out how to get the screen to rotate with the same mechanism as the Egret II, that machine would be a serious contender to my Rec Room Masters Alphacade as an upgrade. But Unico would also have to give us Suzo HAPP controls and sticks instead of Sanwa :)
What would really be cool is if Unico could figure out how to do a control deck mechanism where you could push down on the deck, and and flip it to reveal a new control deck on the other side, underneath, with spinners, trackballs and 8 way rotatable Glen Ikari sticks, the deck stays part of the machine nothing to remove and physically swap out. I think the company who figures out both will have the sweetest spot in the market :)

Way over priced even when it's on sale they are still expansive. A two player IIRrcade countercade at Target and a few other places were on sale for less than 100 bucks. It doesn't have the rotate screen but they are bigger and more steady. I really wanted the Marvel Super Heroes one but missed it by a few days. Maybe next year.
