Not only is this a really helpful tutorial, but it is quality, well-made, and professional. I don't comment often but I feel like this video isn't getting nearly enough attention. Keep making great content!
This is genius. Not sure why I never thought of changing the canvas size to record multiple screens/sources but I'm glad someone did! I'll be doing this from now on lol
these past couple years trying to research recording separate sources, & for what, man... i mean, i still need one part of the audio to be silent on one side, but this still looks to be helpful as hell - saving at least a fair bunch of processing power. thank you !
Super helpful. I wanted to record my photoshop canvas without all the zooming and movements (like a procreate timelapse, which photoshop doesn't have) but also record the screen I'm drawing it on so people can see the windows and pop ups I'm doing. Best of both worlds, thanks so much
Ty I figured out how to copy 2 game screens at once using just one monitor for a game Pirate101. So I can show a unique view of 2 players perspectives of the game. Works great ty so much!
@@HowToMediaHQ Are two instances of obs recording a smaller size going to use more resources than one recording an individual video of double the resolution?
Added 2 monitors with Laptop. OBS didn't recognized the monitors, but just mirrored the laptop on the other 2.. hmm what's the setting to show the other 2 video sources? Windows was working fine with the native multi-display...
when i do this though with my green screen recording the video in premiere has a black background and i cant use it like as a green screen, do i do chromakey in obs or in premiere? im confused
That was a wonderful presentation for this separating the videos from OBS. I have been struggling for 3 months on this as to how to separate 2 videos from recording- 1 my face and audio and the other window capturing my live playing videos. But it's still looking very difficult for me. I am a Music Teacher at 74 years. Interested in creating some OBS piano lessons like Udemy course. Any guidance will be highly appreciated. I am from India. I am using 2 monitors one for my face webcam and other my playing live piano
Is it possible to change recording source on OBS to one screen to another by using a hotkey? For example: I record 5min on screen 1 (fullscreen), then I need to switch over fast to screen 2 (by using like "Alt+2" then I continue to record but on screen 2. Is this possible? I´m a trader and got 3 active screens to record lol
Do you need a capture card when recording an external monitor? Not streaming or gaming, just simply recording RUclips videos on a separate monitor from the main one running obs
Yes you can easily crop and then export them as separate files. Or you could set them as different sequences and use them for pip or multi cam switching
I'd check the resolution of the sources that you are adding. It sounds like one of them may be larger than 1080p. Possibly a 1440p monitor or 4k webcam?
I know this is old, but on the off chance you still look at comments, or _someone_ knows, I'm just trying to figure out how or if, you can get your face, and the computer screen in the same shot _without_ a second monitor, is it possible (at the risk of this being a dumb question)? Do I _need_ a second screen to do it, or is this just "desirable"? This PC is a monster, pretty sure it'll DO four screens, only have this 32" atm, I have another one still in the box, so far, haven't needed it, just gathering up materials, and trying to gain a bit of knowledge before I start anything. I'm a full time care giver for me mum, I can't really do anything while she's still with us, but I can do _this_ much, gonna need to create some income streams fast at the end, cause in the way that "no good deed goes unpunished", this house gets "inherited" unfortunately, by the bank, (curse you Tom Sellek!). If it turns out I decide _not_ to use it, at least I'll have some stuff to sell. If otoh, I decide to start podcasting, I'll know at least a little, of what I'm doing.....
Yeah you can definitely do that. Just keep the resolution of the canvas the same as your monitor. Then add in a display capture into that scene. Then add a video capture device and select your webcam and you should be good to go.

Isn't it possible to make OBS automaticly record 2 separated outputs and give 2 video files for each source?
You would have to run two instances of OBS to accomplish that.

Very helpful tutorial. Is there a way to save these two screens to two separate files?

If it is plugged into the same computer no. You can use display capture.
Is there a way (or different software) to record 2 people on two different computers while recording a screen?
Yes you would use this same concept and use NDI to link the other computer.
NICE VIDEO DUDE HELP A LOT GREAT THANKS!!1!

Amazing! Thanks for the help
Very cool. Is Adobe then able save the various 1080p video inputs/cameras/screens as seperate video files?
Yes you can easily crop and then export them as separate files. Or you could set them as different sequences and use them for pip or multi cam switching
Thanks, very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
When recording my camera seems to lag. I've tried increasing the bit rate, but it didn't fix anything 😔 Any advice?
Probably (probably) your hard disk on your computer can't keep up..
