  • In this episode I demonstrate how I drill holes for vintage style tuners using a drill press. After drilling pilot holes, I had to use a larger 9mm bit to drill out the front face of the headstock for the bushings and a 6mm bit to drill out the back of the holes for the shaft of the tuners, using a drill pressed allowed me to keep the holes perpendicular to the angle of the headstock.

Does it matter where the holes are drilled on the headstock?

In terms of design, no. But if you want good tuning stability, you want as close to straight string pull as you can. So it's better designing your headstock around tuner location than the other way round.

@@ADFinlayson thanks, I was just double checking. I’m making a Jackson type headstock and was thinking about if it would make any difference if the tuning pegs were of center by a little bit. Thanks again man!
