I've been a Mercedes mechanic since 1997, and bought my first Mercedes in 1997. My first Mercedes was a 1986 560 SEL. I have owned 6 Mercedes now. All the mercedes I have owned have been S class except for 1. Right now I own a 2004 Mercedes S430 and a 2006 CL500. I could not imagine trying to swap everything between the two cars you are doing. Amazing 👏! You deserve a whole lot more recognition!
It’s a weird project for sure. Take a diesel converted LHD US spec 107 and convert it to RHD, take apart a perfectly good C63 to do it. Guy in Europe must have more money than he knows what to do with.

not out of the old 5-cylinders you aint making more than 130hpms, you need to move up to the slightly more modern W210 e-class's 24v OM606 in order to make some serious power.

What a cool project! To bad you don't like the om617 diesel. Together with the om603//606 ine, its the most reliable engine to have ever been mounted to a car. When boosted they can actually produce crazy powerfigures without Breaking.
@@carft1234 It depends what your definition is of best. Best power, best stock reliability, best ability to taken high power and or high milage , best fueleconomy? They are Both in another leaq compared to their competitor diesels in terms of overal reliability. Nu the way the stock om606 does have an electric pump wich ocationally breaks, the om617 doesn't.

I haven't watched in ages as I don't like his smug offsider but I watched his Lamborghini videos in the early days and he spent 15 minutes talking about what he was going to do with the car then pointed at something broken and that was a video. Then the next one he would talk for 15 minutes and swap out the broken part and that would be a video. It was quantity over quality and I couldn't watch any more.
Right hand drive euro cars generally only shifted the steering column and pedal assembly to the right and used a cross bar to activate the brake cylinder, it saved a huge re engineering cost , check out the right hand drive parts version book on this car
This is a really interesting Restomod project. You may find that it would be worthwhile sourcing some RHD components such as steering rack, dashboard, bulkhead and lights. Remember that UK spec cars must have amber indicators , front and rear, headlamps have a different beam pattern and a rear fog lamp must be fitted also. Looking forward to seeing how this unfolds and how much hidden rust is lurking underneath.

This is going to be a tough build. Not only is the w204 a lot wider and possibly longer , but the chassis is also a lot stiffer. Not sure how the SL is going to handle all that torque. Lot of reinenforcing i assume but interesting to see the outcome. RIP C63 tho😔
you underestimate the quality and durability of olden mercs... modern mercs go faster and do more "cool" shit, but old mercs are built like trucks, yeah, reinforcing stuff is always a great idea in my book, but my point is that with and without reinforcements, old mercs can take a lot of power and torque, its just a bit fiddly to cram all that modern shit in and make it work with cast subframes and such that wont take welding kindly... I would actually go with remaking a steel subframe that would act and do all that the old subframe does, but would be made from machined parts rather than a casting, which would allow for use of geometry and alloying to reduce mass but greatly increase durability and allow for additional stuff that will be used from the modern merc...
Should of just put the body of the SL onto the C class - TBH that is probaby what the owner wanted. A new car, with an old body so it looks on the outside like a new car. Hence why there have been no recent videos as they f ed bad!!

MAJOR undertaking on this one. All of that 1960's engineered car will have to be modified and what you don't modify will still be a rusty mess. I have had people contact me to do ridiculous swaps but I don't think they realize the amount of time and expense involved and don't trust I would ever truly get paid for my efforts. Anxiously watching this project

Hey brother, those older Mercedes Diesel engines are quite incredible ;) you can do some pretty great things with them. Also those transmission are vacuum actuated (just like basically everything else in it) and when they’re rebuilt they are incredibly smooth shifting transmissions

This is really a massive project you have taken on your shoulders there. If done “right” your could pave a great future for your self and your company. Moving the front wheel further forward is a great way to customize and gain better weight distribution and might make it easier to adapt more from the C63. Again great project that I will follow closely.

Why would you go about it this way? Could you not find a wrecked C36? Seems wrong to tear apart a perfectly good C36. Also I think an M113K out of an SL55 would've been a much better choice. Fantastic motor.

I use to own a 1979 sl 450 red just like that one but my car was very fast for an older car and the girling brakes were very good I really didn't want to sell it but I had got the r129 and Everytime I would drive up the street I would take the forsake sign off of it but I didn't have room for it and i sold it but if I ever find another good one I Will keep they are going up in value and still hold a good resale amount today good luck on the project I want to see when you start going in and swapping everything over it going to be a great deal I know

Quality... Yep I had a W123 first, quality was stunning. Then I had a W124 quality was very good and electronic engine management made the whole package better. Then I got a W210 and I was like what the hell has happened? I still have a W210 though... I was working on it just today in fact!

one of the most famous german car youtubers JP Performance did a similar thing recently with a newer BMW M4 and an old M3 e30. They had a lot of trouble with electronics, mostly sensors (i think accelerometers and other stuff) that rely on being placed at the correct position respective to the cars dimensions (roll center, yaw axis, etc..). Depending on how much sensors the c63 has you may run into similar issues, so just a heads up!
That car could be tweaked to be much better. Manual trans and operational vacuum pump to shut it off and run the power brakes. The stock brakes are excellent when working correctly.
What a huge undertaking. Gonna be fun to watch. Would've made it easier if you sourced a rhd car to begin with though haha save you guys a lot of headaches
that C63 is going to be hard to watch die..... I am low key cringing but I know it will turn out cool, and hey, you're getting paid to do something epic and unique so..... ;)
You want to swap it to right hand drive ? I'd suggest that the easiest option is getting the complete front half of a junker from the UK or Australia and cutting out the entire firewall and dashboard support
You are my idol! I wish I could do all that work, I'm having a hard time fixing my 02 cl500. I have to unplug my negative cable when I turn the car off because the rear taillights stay on. Who knows what to do? I'm lost. Can't wait for the next video!

@@Uninfluenceable The OM617 isn't exactly a hotrod motor but back in its day it had quite a few records for speed and endurance.

No, he said 5 cylinder, the OM 606 is an inline 6. That is most likely an OM 617

The hvac system probably doesn't work because a diesel doesn't make vacuum.
That could also very well be the reason the brakes suck.

ECU tuning to make all those components work happily in an older car should be really interesting

I'd suggest that the easiest option is getting the complete front half of a junker from the UK or Australia and cutting out the entire firewall and dashboard support
