I watched a lot of reactions of this and it's always great to read you in the comments. I don't do reactions, but i just want to say that i think it's awesome that you follow the reactions here on RUclips. All the best wishes for you and your family.
I wish my former U.S. history teacher could've lived to see and hear Sabaton. How they tell stories via music was in line with how he taught. He told stories, he made figures from the past come alive, with all their virtues and faults. He would've loved this.
In the heart of the fierce aerial battles of World War II, amidst the chaos of war and the roar of engines, a German pilot named Franz Stiegler made a choice that would forever etch his name into the annals of history. Trained to escort bombers from above and to their right, Stiegler initially adhered to the doctrine he had learned. But one fateful encounter with an American Air Force POW ignited a spark of humanity within him. As he recalled the conversation with the captured soldier, Stiegler recognized a stark contrast in their training. While he had been taught to maintain a position above and to the right, Americans and British pilots traditionally escorted their bombers from the left and slightly ahead-a position designed to communicate solidarity and protection. In that moment, Stiegler understood that the air war was not just about missions and objectives; it was about lives, respect, and a shared humanity. As he flew in pursuit of a downed American bomber, he grappled with the urgency of his mission and the moral imperative of his newfound insight. With a heart full of determination, Stiegler made a heroic decision. In an extraordinary act of compassion and bravery, he soared up and over the beleaguered aircraft, positioning himself in the American escort formation. His intention was clear: to signal to the wounded crew that he was not their enemy but a guardian angel soaring in the skies above. In an animated story that captures this remarkable moment, we see Stiegler’s aircraft shift gracefully into position. "How do I make them understand I'm trying to help?" he seemed to ask the heavens as he displayed unwavering resolve. Then, in a powerful gesture of camaraderie and respect, he saluted the Americans, an act that transcended the boundaries of war, symbolizing a bond forged in shared humanity. With a heavy heart but a clear conscience, Stiegler took off, knowing he had defied orders and expectation. He flew into the unknown, fully expecting a court martial for his insubordination. Yet, in that moment of soaring bravery, he became a beacon of hope and compassion, reminding us all that even in the darkest of times, the spirit of humanity can rise above the chaos. Franz Stiegler's act of heroism stands as a testament to the power of empathy and the enduring desire for peace, illuminating the path toward understanding in a world torn apart by conflict.
I really liked your reaction to this great and important song. And I liked what you wrote on this video in the description. I really think metal, and Sabaton in particularly, can win a Country fan over, simply because their storytelling and well fitting music to the topic are so great. Thank you for the reaction!
When Franz Stigler was first deployes in northern africa, his Squadron Leader spoke to the Pilots " If I ever get aware anyone of you was shoothing at a Parachute, I´ll shoot you myself. For Him, the crippled B17 was nothing like a parachute....
In combat we witness, endure and do horrible things to stay alive, to defend and protect. The hardest thing for many is not to lose our humanity during all that. Salute to Franz!
GREAT song, and Video. Love your reaction. My dad fought in WW II in German. The only thing he ever told us was war is not what you see in the movies. Thanks to everyone who served
The complete story is in the book A Higher Call by Adam Makos. Sabaton is touring the US this fall with Judas Priest. They aren't hard to meet if you just wait by their bus. They are all cool, down to earth guys.
There is a really great animation of this that I came across because of Sabaton. It's "The Stigler-Brown Incident Animation" by C-bass Productions. The animation is like a short (8 minute, 49 second) silent movie with AMAZING graphics. It shows some more details and the facial expressions give more nuance without a single spoken word. Great tone-setting instrumentals. You can SEE the gears turning in Franz Stigler's brain when he comes up behind the B-52 and goes "that... that isn't right" and then decides to investigate, just to name one moment. It also brings to mind that fact that the B-52 crew were probably struggling to recover from hypoxia severe enough that it knocked them unconscious and then they still had to fly their severely damaged plane, when they are suddenly confronted with the bizarre sight of a... non-hostile enemy plane? Just, what? (Search something like "Pilot Declares Emergency Because Of Extreme Hypoxia" to have a prime example of just how... interesting that state of mind can be... and that particular pilot somehow didn't lose consciousness, even if his copilot had--disconnecting their autopilot in the process. The plane is basically screaming in the background most of the video via alarms. And the pilots at least APPEAR to recover relatively quickly. Some recover in 5 minutes, sometimes it can take 2 - 4 hours under controlled circumstances.)
Sabaton really is awesome! You might be interested in their RUclips channel - Sabaton History Channel. They visit a lot of the sights of the battles they sing about. There is an episode on "No Bullets Fly."
I suggest , from Sabaton, To Hell and Back, which is about Audie Murphy, and their Tribute (cover) of Motorhead, 1916, be warned, 1916 is rough, I saw them in Reading, PA in May, opening for Judas Priest
The Yarnhub animations of Sabaton songs tend to give more info about the story behind the song than the official songs do. Having said Sabaton also have a history channel with a LOT more info about the story behind their songs.
I love Sabaton and was able to see them in concert earlier this month. It was an amazing concert! I love the history I have learned by listening to them and their music right up my alley because I love any kind of metal, rock or blues. Try listening to Hell and Back (about Audie Murphy) or Soldier of Heaven or any Sabaton song, you can't go wrong! Thanks for your reaction.
Great reaction! I’m a former Army attack helicopter pilot with combat experience. I could have fired on so-called “combatants” and would have been justified but, it wouldn’t have been right…
Highly recommend watching the animated story video for Night Witches. Don't do any research before you watch it that way it hits even harder. Another great video to watch is the live performance in poland Woodstock 2012, Ghost Division, Uprising, 40:1, et.. With a 750k crowd. I'm sure you would have fun watching that. And man, leav it to Joakim to set the mood, hell, the man is built different.😂
Really good reaction. I do suggest you check out their official Sabaton History channel, it is an easy way to learn more about the topic in the song. (and you also meet Pär, or Joakim from the band, telling the backstory) Next stop should be -To hell and back -En livstid i krig (live from The Great Tour in Gothenburg, its in swedish so make sure to turn on captions) -1916
I was fortunate enough to see Sabaton the past April in Connecticut. Now they are coming back to the US, and I will get to see them in October in Re no! About 2800 miles closer to home this time. Lol😂
Many people even to this day think every German during WW2 was a monstrous Nazi, Franz Stigler is one of many examples of a random German soldier just doing their job but knowing when enough is enough, he could've just shot down that plane and been awarded for it, but he decided that letting them go was the right thing to do, i dunno if he thought it just wasn't sporting/fair since their plane could barely fight back, or if he genuinely didn't want to fight anymore, regardless of the reasons he gave those men a chance to live and he should definitely be remembered for it.
'people think country is about their dog dying, their girl running off or their girl running off with their dog...' hit from nowhere.😂 It was so much funnier than it had any business to be.😂😂
German had the death sentace on lock. Fuck death im gonna save this. ❤️Hate to side and just be human.🥰need balls to do that. Some people are just good
I love this song, really emotional. Another emotional song of theirs is 1916, and En Livstid I Krig (the live version with subtitles on). You should consider checking their other channel Sabaton History, over there Hearts of Iron is one I usually recommend
Checkout History channel and No Bullets Fly - Charlie Brown and Franz Stigler - Sabaton History 016 [Official] Sabaton History brings you the historical background to all Sabaton songs. ruclips.net/video/LSU7HedRVGY/видео.html
The Generation that has come of Age Since St Ronnie Reagan are the People mostly in need of History, that is no Longer Taught accurately in Schools & Music Gets/Keeps the Students Involved Learning....Sabaton is the 1st Band to deal with real Historical Happenings, most excellent teaching tools for History Teachers, Wanna Piss off the MAGAt's of the USA, the band could Grant Teachers to their Catalog, Unlimited Classroom Use Rights, to as many History Teachers as reachable....IMHO
Thank you for your reaction - very kind words

@@-row-gunny8618 Such a delightful comment - thank you. And, the best to you and yours
Weird how so many Sabaton songs make folks want to look up the history and background to a story like this.
That is the true service of Sabaton.
Sabaton - the history teachers we all wish we had. I highly recommend the Sabaton History Channel for more of the backstory of their songs.

You should react to more Sabaton. I highly recommend you do “1916” and “To Hell and Back” to knock out two of their saddest songs sooner
I really liked your reaction to this great and important song.

The whole back story you find on the 'Sabaton history channel'!
Many of the Sabaton songs are gut wrenching but always bangers. September and October 2024 with Judas Priest.😉

If you like stories, check out Al Stewart -- he did a fair number related to history, too, but years before Sabaton.
