During the movie, the news casters who were giving live coverage of Godzilla's attack are a homage to the first Godzilla movie, but the live recordings they risked their lives for were later used as loudspeakers to summon Godzilla, so their deaths were not in vain. The location is also a well-made part of this movie.

The sad thing is, that even if he had shot Godzilla on the island, the filmmaker has said that it sill wouldn't have made a difference. Godzilla's regeneration was natural to it even before mutating, which is how he survived the nuke.

Went into the theaters with high expectations given the reviews, and I left damn near speechless. Easily a top 3 film for me last year and might be a top 10 film I've seen in the theaters this past decade. Such a bittersweet ending that Noriko survives but is infected. A fate worse than death. But then again our MC found peace.

It’s a masterpiece, straight up. Not just a great Godzilla movie, but a great movie. So full of love and reverence for Big G and what he represents for the people of Japan. No one but the Japanese should be allowed to make Godzilla movies because they clearly love him.

every time I see Koichi seeing the "specially made" boat for dealing with mines for the first time, I'm reminded of Star Wars; the first time Luke sees the Millenium Falcon and the conversation starts:
Koichi: "What a piece of junk!"
boat captain Akitsu: "I know it doesn't look like much, but she's got it where it counts..."

Such an unexpected gem of a film. Koichi is a special kind of hero. I’ve never seen a human character who is so perfectly Godzilla’s opposite in every conceivable way: it’s literally day and night, air and water, outcast and king, man and beast, stone-cold fear and white-hot rage.

The job of a Japanese Kamikaze pilot was to fire their ordinance then literally crash their plane into the target as well. They were the original s-word bombers. He didn't want to die, he'd promised his mother he'd come home, so he landed on the island claiming troubles with his plane. It was something horrendously "dishonorable" in the culture at the time to not do his duty.

  • @rodgill9376

Godzilla hates humanity and his only goal was pure revenge. Beforehand, he seemed to have some contempt for them and only attacked when he was provoked into doing so. Kind of like how Jason does whenever people keep coming to Camp Crystal Lake. It’s like an animal protecting their territory.
But once he mutated and transformed into his famous form, his contempt for humanity turned into outright hatred and misanthropic. It’s implied that he blames them for why he turned into such a creature. That’s why he seems so outlandishly destructive, perhaps even moreso than his original 1950’s counterpart. This is probably the most angry and pissed I’ve ever seen him.
So basically… it’s kind of Oppenheimer’s fault lol.

Hi! So as a Godzilla fan, what makes him stand out from other Kaijus is that Godzilla could be a dinosaur that was reawaken or evolved from the radiation when the bombing in Japan happened. His looks is suppose to resemble that of the burned victims from that bombing and of course his atomic breath (heat wave) is proof of that.
His first movie was a representation of the Bombing and devastation that occurred. Although they expanded and went through crazier routes with Godzilla films, this film serves as a SOFT remake of what the very first film in 1954 was suppose to be and thats what makes this movie very well loved.
As for this time era, if u were a kamikaze, you HAVE to die for ur country becuz it was more honorable. If u come back alive while many others died, you be discriminated.

At 5:33 you are correct. All that destruction was from the war. At 35:32 the answer is yes. Godzilla was killed in the orignal 1954/1956 movie & in the 1998 movie (not every Godzilla fan considers the 1998 movie to be a true Godzilla movie) & again in the 1995 movie "Godzilla vs Destoroyah". As for "Godzilla: Minus One", I can't say anything that hasn't already been said. It's nothing short of an absolute masterpiece in film making & story telling.

Why is Godzilla able to regenerate so quickly?
My guess is that Godzilla also damages his own body after emitting heat rays. You can confirm that from the video. In short,
his body was constantly damaged by the radioactivity in his body, and his survival instinct gave him the ability to quickly regenerate.

Minus one Godzilla is comparable to 2001 GMK Godzilla for being one of the evil Godzilla. That literally goes after humans.
And both GMK Godzilla and Minus One Godzilla's Atomic Breath can cause nuke-like explosions.
Minus One Godzilla is 50.1 meter tall, Monsterverse is 120 meters tall.
Many incarnations of Godzilla have regeneration like Heisei, Millennium, Shin Godzilla, Godzilla Earth, Godzilla Ultima. Even Monsterverse has regeneration, some are very fast like Minus One while others are slower, plus we do see it happened openly onscreen Minus One is one ofnthe few times we see it openly.

Before mutation this Godzilla only attacked after humans shot at him. But after the bomb test his body was hideously burned as well as mutated. Godzilla is in constant pain, and it blames humans for what happened to it. That's why it attacks. There's a line in the trailer that didn't make it into the movie, that sums up that reality: "That monster will never forgive us."

Minus One is a SPECTACULAR film!!! Easily one of the best Godzilla movies of all time
I really like the Godzilla from Legendary's Monsterverse (Hollywood's take that "saved" Toho from bankruptcy in turn making them confident enough to make Shin and Minus One if I remember correctly) and think they did a really good job with the first 2. King of the Monsters is my 2nd favorite of the recent movies, and the Vs Kong and the recent G+K one to me aren't quite as good but still a lot of fun.
Shin Godzilla was a weird trip, thanks to the Evengellion creators directing it. It would have been, or could be cool to see more of it with the weird designs they had in the art book.

"Godzilla Minus One" is a life-affirming film centered on a kamikaze pilot as its lead. Despite expectations for him to perish in the war, he defied his fate, prompted by his parents' heartfelt plea for his safe return. Similarly, Noriko's survival of Godzilla's heat ray blast parallels Shikishima's narrative. She vowed to live on for her deceased parents, albeit infused with Godzilla's radiation G-cells. Each time Godzilla unleashes his devastating heat ray, his physical form deteriorates, with his burning skin disintegrating into the air. Consequently, Noriko may not be the sole survivor of the Ginza attack; anyone sheltered by the kaiju's shadow and exposed to its particles could have survived. Noriko and these other affected individuals could play significant roles in a sequel if Toho opts to pursue this storyline, departing from their usual standalone Godzilla films.

Kamikaze pilots were actually volunteers. They went through a ceremony to swear an oath to die for their country. Shikishima's neighbor didn't actually believe he personally could have saved her family. He just symbolized all those who failed to protect Japan and "allowed" that ruin to come to them. She spoke out of grief.

Kamikaze pilots were not always volunteers. My great uncle was drafted into a kamikaze squadron when he was still a student in college. He wanted no part in the war but once drafted, felt he had no choice but to accept it. The extreme warrior culture at the time didn't help that decision either.
Edit: Almost forgot to mention that the boys in his class were drafted along with him. So him and his friends were put in a squadron together once they began training.

I'm Japanese and I'm not good at English, but after watching your video I learned that the Americans who used nuclear bombs are the most ignorant people in the world about nuclear weapons.
Shikishima was exposed to black rain due to the huge explosion caused by the beam of light released by Godzilla.
Because black rain contains large amounts of radioactivity, people who are directly exposed to this rain suffer from acute radiation injuries such as hair loss, heavy bleeding from the gums, bloody stools, and massive hematemesis caused by acute leukemia.
Noriko was infected with Godzilla cells, but Shikishima's life was also in danger.
Godzilla killed 30,000 people, but this number is likely to be much higher.
That's what this story is about.
