6:43 No, this is not Hiroahima. In the movie it cleary said Tokyo. The city was completly destroyed due to the Firebombing of Tokyo (Apr 18, 1942 - Mar 10, 1945) 30:50 That's "black rain" that actually happened in Hiroahima & Nagasaki after the atomic bombings. It was a combination of the ash, radioactive fallout, and water. 47:12 Clearly Akiko's parents were killed during the firebombing in Tokyo. That's why the kid's mother asked a stranger, Noriko, to take Akiko and look after her as dying.
A lot of people don't pay attention. Even when they watch a movie without reacting. Attention spans have been cut down to minus one. Did you see the guy on his cellphone?
@@rw9931 Yeah, I understand. The ending when you see the Godzilla cells crawling up Noriko's neck, I didn't notice that in the theater. I think it's because my eyes were looking at their profiles and didn't look at the center of the screen.
Actually... they do show the cataclysmic aftermath of the destruction in the original 1954 Godzilla. They imply kids die. The rest of the sequels just avoid it. OG Godzilla was a bad guy. Then in the 60s and 70s, he was turned into a super hero.
First 4 movies he was the "bad guy".. 5th movie he started as the bad guy but after having a talk with Mothra he turned into a good guy. This lasted for the next 10 movies. Then in 1984 he came back as a bad guy. Thru the early 2000's he was like an anti hero.. defending earth from other monsters but clearly a threat to us too. Shin Godzilla he seemed like an indifferent force of nature, only noticed us when we were able to hurt it. Now he's back to being a bad guy.
@geraldthegoose1685 Yes. And the scene where the doctor is testing the boy for radiation and Shakes his head to Emiko suggesting he isn't gonna make it.
I hope they re-watch on their own because they've missed so much, talking to each other, looking away from the screen, etc. I'm glad they liked what they saw, but it'll be better when they're better focused on what's being said.
Most incarnations of Godzilla have regeneration like Heisei, Millennium Godzilla, Shin Godzilla, Godzilla Earth, Godzilla Ultima even Monsterverse Godzilla has regeneration. Some are slower or heal more faster than others. Minus One Godzilla is 50.1 meter tall and Monsterverse Godzilla is 119.8 meters. Minus One Godzilla is comparable to 2001 GMK Godzilla for being the most evil Godzilla.
I think the sailors' salutes were aimed at Godzilla. I think that the Japanese people did not just praise good and punish evil, but also respected Godzilla. Look at Noriko's neck at the end, you can see what looks like Godzilla cells.
HOLY CRAP, do I believe the Oscar hype!!!! Minus One was beautifully done and animated. Koichi Shikishima had *HEAVY* PTSD and survivor's guilt from the massacre on Odo Island, and the thought of Noriko dying in the aftermath of Godzilla's Atomic Breath certainly didn't help at all.
At the beginning, that was Tokyo, and no it wasn't a nuclear blast that did that, it was firebombing. "Although the precise death toll is unknown, conservative estimates suggest that the firestorm caused by incendiary bombs killed at least 80,000 people, and likely more than 100,000, in a single night; some one million people were left homeless." It was more devastating because it was a windy night and the U.S. knew the majority of homes were made from paper and wood. The actual devastation was worse than either Nagasaki or Hiroshima. It was a great review, and this IMO was and always will be a contender for the best TOHO Godzilla movie ever made.

Heya, good reaction. Welcome to the Japanse Gojira-verse! Just a few notes for background detail on the story: 1: They were actually in Tokyo, which had been devastated by firebombing. The city lost 100,000 in one night - almost as bad as Hiroshima. 2: There were a lot of broken families in post-war Tokyo, with missing husbands or wives or families almost entirely wiped out, so there would have been a lot of odd relationships forming and new family units forming out of survivors. 3: The miracle of Japan rebuilding was almost as dramatic a change in a few years as in the movie. There's a bit of a divergence from reality though as Japan was occupied by America for a few-years post war, but with a very 'light-touch' administration under General McArthur which prioritised helping rebuild Japan in the hopes of winning her as a strategic ally against communism. In this film the US is 'distracted' by events off screen and no American forces are seen. It's a bit of a cheat but I imagine in their universe the Soviet Union was about to invade the rest of Europe so the American troops were needed there. In reality there's no way the American Military Industrial Complex would be able to resist trying to fight a giant indestrucible lizard. 4: The film echoes a lot of the original great 1954 one, which still is a really good movie. Godzilla is super-nasty, the atomic breath is more evocative of the atomic bomb (with accompanying radiation) and lots of innocent people (including children) die. In the original Godzilla is a folk legend on a small island off Japan who returns from sea-floor after being awoken by nuclear testing. Everyone has a bad time.
