I've been listening to your podcast for a few months. Have 2 interviews approaching with both schools I applied to (!) so thank you. I've been a dietitian for 19 years. Certified Diabetes Educator just changed their name to Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist. Big mouthful. My patients don't know what a CDE was and now the CDCES. I just call myself the diabetes educator and they are fine with that. The American Dietetic Association changed to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics a few years ago. The Dietary Managers Association changed their name to the Association of Nutrition and Foodservice Professionals. The name changes are a rite of passage.

Great question! I honestly think it depends on how this name change goes. If it is well received and we can continue working towards some version of optimal team practice, I think we will make great gains within the profession and work to the peak of our license.
Because our closest similar profession (NP) has a doctorate as the terminal degree, I expect we will migrate that way as well. I don’t have a preference on the professional title we carry provided we all can carry out functions to the highest level of our license, but I hate to hear stories I have PAs losing out on jobs to an NP simply due to them having the title of “doctor”.
How about you? What do you think?
I prefer the "Clinical Officer" ( CO ) name..

We have Medical Officers.Nursing Officers.Public health Officer, Laboratory Officer..Why not
" CLINICAL OFFICER "?

You guys seem embarrassed to be called physician assistants, maybe because you are unsatisfied with your career choice and don't like being supervised by a doctor? Nothing is embarrassing about helping sick people feel better. IMO, this whole name change is an effort to confuse people even more, I bet you'd rather just be called physicians... kinda just like how NPs are now calling themselves "doctors" ...
@balestinian No, we're not embarrassed to be called a Physician Assistant, we just have seen how the name can be misleading and result in some physicians utilizing the PA role inefficiently.
But still CASPA uses pa assistant?
Yes, it’s a slow change-many states and healthcare systems still do as well, until the state laws and hospital bylaws are updated. Maybe CASPA is waiting for a majority to switch? But I’m hearing more and more “associate” being used in conversations, so that’s the right trend. Thanks for watching!!
