Pretexting is "Representing yourself as someone you're not to get information you would normally be able to have."

That is one definition. You need to be clear about what information you normally shouldn’t have. If you dig deeper you will see that bank information, social security numbers and other private information is what the law talks about.

I know Social security is off limits but I thought phone numbers and addresses were public record?
