The guy is awesome, what he has achieved in a single lifetime, the detail, the knowledge, the intelligence, just awe inspiring. And to watch Matt trying to glean bits of info & soak it up 👌 One of the best podcasts, well done guys, just fantastic 👏👏👏👏👏
At exactly 1h 34m into the podcast, I've paused it to share this.....Here's a fact from the old days regarding WC selection.....the top anglers in the National, one each from the top 5 teams on the day, were the anglers who went to Worlds to represent England, before the days of Stan Smith, Dick Clegg, and Mark Downes selecting the best anglers irrespective of their individual team or the National result. It was Stan Smith who changed the selection process enforced upon the manager by the NFA. I've watched the secomd half. What a podcast. Has to be the the best, most honest, most "tippy", most intruiging, most forthright, most complete one EVER. One thing to be taken from it is to never wear a white t-shirt while on the bank, fishing or not. Thankyou Hadrian and thankyou Matt / Toby / Guru for this.
Fantastic session, that man says it as it is,loved everything he had to say, to hear the light hearted stuff, then we’d get technical, absolutely brilliant.hope he comes on again.cheers .
I understand the points made on moving people on and its a victim of success, the best will always be watched and admired. With success comes popularity and the desire to see if you can emulate.
What an angling brain. No wander you come smash us all up at Redhill f1 shallow for a few months. The way you talk about bleak, the small edges. Scary when you apply that level of thinking to f1's. Really enjoyed this. Ta
Brilliant podcast. If I had to choose one person to fish for my life on a river Hadrian would be that man, world class angler and totally different gravy.
That was an absolutely fantastic pod cast. I don't know Hadrian but he is honest and his own person, that is obvious, i apluad that. Well hosted Matt and the guru team.
First time subscribing and must say I really enjoyed this podcast as I was interested in what H had to say. I have known him for many years and watched his progress over the years. He has become an excellent angler and contrary to what he may say I find him likeable and approachable, but not during a fishing match. However, I think he does go overboard blaming sky-liners believing that the fish scare easily. I think most times it's in his head, but how can you argue with his record? Personally, I believe fish can be attracted to a swim when they see shadows, just as someone who is throwing bread into the water for ducks the fish start feeding. And how can we explain that when the boats on the Wye finish for the day, the fishing slows up? I remember the legends of yesteryear such as Ivan Marks and Kevin Ashurst always drew a large audience of people behind them and that never affected their catch rate. For H not becoming an international Angler is a sad loss for the English team. I did ask Mark Downs why he was not picked and Mark said he would not fish to a team plan and this interview explains why he is an individual. Probably in my opinion the best all round angler in the country at this present time
Not often that I listen with intent to every second of anyone, but Adrian Whittle is pure class. simple as, thank You one and all for such an intense knowledge filled show.
All of it, the filming and Matt has a future in Such, Hadrian is clearly a top bloke and it shone through, as a comment on skylinersI can remember fishing a team match against a certain Barnsley side, they had loads of bank walkers behind all of us ( Brighouse) they are masters of the dark arts of fishing but fabulous people and anglers@@TackleguruTV
Very behind on the podcasts. Fantastic one, this. Clearly a hugely complex and interesting guy, and has great self awareness of his assets and weaknesses. Great stuff.
Fascinating! I particularly loved the bits on managing on achieving the right presentation in each situation. I've never nailed back-winding the float down the swim...
My absolute angling hero , nothing else to say . Fish with Joe Roberts nearly every week , another legend. The North bank of the Nene is pretty much devoid of fish other than odd big bream .
Like Hadrian, I was diagnosed with Perthes Hip at a very young age. By the time I was diagnosed, the ball in my hips' ball and socket joint had worn away to almost nothing. I'm older than Hadrian and surgery wasn't an option at that time, so I spent 3 or 4 years on crutches with my affected leg suspended so that I couldn't put my foot on the ground. Fortunately, I recovered completely and then built the leg up to normal musculature through playing sport. Although I was warned to expect problems with the hip later in life, I'm now 58 years old and have yet to experience any.
Don't know if it's been suggested before but I would like to see Matt Godfrey in the hot seat leave you to decide who interview's you but I'm sure a lot of people would like to see this, merry Christmas Matt.
Amazing angler, always has been. Should have been given a shot at the England team years ago. Would be awesome on some of the venues used for the world champs. One of the best podcasts I’ve listened to!
Just listen to this in the car while travelling back from work. Unbelievable angler that clearly uses small edges to win. Great interview by the Guru team. Will we see a Xmas 🤶 special?
It's hard to rope rivers off as some access are public foot paths ,signs would be a good idea to hang in different area's, letting people know there's a match in progress and keep back as far as possible and keep moving
Fantastic video took me back years when you mentioned Dave Roper Kevin Ashurst etc I’m 79years old and finished against them in the North West winter league 12 Teams of 33 anglers does anyone remember that League
Replying to the topic of people standing behind anglers and costing them fish, everyone knows or should know the record that Ivan marks had.He regularly had 200 people standing behind and still performed to win.If the public were roped off in those days, how much more would he have won??Every time he was 2nd with 200 spectators behind him, would this have cost him winning?
What a whopper this guy is, many of the legends in course fishing were never put off by spectators. Is it not about getting people interested, which helps with sponsors, etc ..Think i remember that match on the river stonvo team that won it used loads of stiky mag & maggot .
Absolutely brilliant!
Thank you Jon! Glad you enjoyed the show! 😁

Just watched. Decided if I ever see him on the bank I’m not going to say “how many you had pal!??” Haha!
Fantastic session, that man says it as it is,loved everything he had to say, to hear the light hearted stuff, then we’d get technical, absolutely brilliant.hope he comes on again.cheers .
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for listening! 👍 We hope to have Hadrian back on again in the future!

Glad you enjoyed it! 💪 We still haven't figured out how he counts SO MANY fish 🤣
Brilliant podcast. If I had to choose one person to fish for my life on a river Hadrian would be that man, world class angler and totally different gravy.
Best podcast yet 👏

Thank you! He was a BRILLIANT guest, someone we hope to have on again down the line! 🙌
The best podcast to date, Hadrian seems so driven success had to follow.

What happened to Marc Lucas? Sad to hear he has passed away.

I’d like to see Dave Harrell on the podcast
An X rated one for sure 😂😂
P.S spectators pay the wages!!
I think if there was ever a match you could have picked Hadrian for at international level, last year's WC in Spain on those bleak might have been it
Are you having mick vials on the pod?
Mick would be superb. He's an amazing broadcaster
