  • I really debated whether or not I was going to even post this because life feels very ~in flux~ at the moment. But, I figured I will follow through on at least SOME of my plans this year (and some are already paid for so there's really no changing those), so here it is - my best guess at my 2024 hiking plans for those of you who so sweetly care. Barring injuries and major life changes, I do hope to follow through on the ones mentioned here!
Something I didn't mention in the video, but is definitely part of my 2024 plan, is to post new videos here EVERY SINGLE WEDNESDAY, so if you are interested in following along with any of my backpacking adventures in 2024, don't forget to subscribe. As I mentioned, I'd love to hear about your backpacking plans in the comments! And also, if you have any video requests to fill my year, I'd love to hear those too!
Thank you SO much to all of you for being here, seriously, posting on RUclips has inspired me in a way that I haven't felt inspired in quite some time. So I sincerely appreciate every like, comment, and subscription.

The Winds are fantastic. The high route will be challenging. I hope Josh joins you on that one. Good luck.

Great plans! I am planning the Colorado Trail this summer. I am currently training for a better chance at success! I have never camped, filtered water or any of those important things! I have used my camp stove once. I have watched a year of video's and gear review and if I had to start tomorrow , I have everything I need. I have hired a professional to help me train and I will start out by camping in my backyard and work my way up to longer trips with more nights. Wish me luck! :) Colorado Girl

That’s awesome. I wish you the best of luck on your Colorado Trail hike. It’s awesome to hear more more people getting out on trail for their very first time and learning the intricacies of the sport.

that's amazing!!! seems like you have got the preparation on lock! I have a feeling you're going to do amazing and have a blast. GOOD LUCK (even though I don't think you'll need it)!!!

Sounds like all good things! Part time jobs can are a double edged sword, good luck and hope that adds to your resume of being a forever learner! Too bad about The AT, but you'll get it done. I am gear and body testing for longer adventures and making good progress, for me and where I was just a year ago. I tented 40 days last year and plan to double that in 2024. I paddled various rivers and got 150 plus miles and plan to double those. We have a group of guys, 15-25 of us who always get together every 8 weeks for paddling primitive camping weekends, that been the life blood of our keeping adventures at the forefront of our minds. ....
4 of us are doing the first 40 miles of The AT in the end of April, in 3 days.... then back to the grind at work on Monday Dang it, work! I also have a 5 day trip with my son in The Smokies in June and 1 week in SNP AT in early October. plans are at least goof for planning sake and keeping accountability. I appreciate all you have to share.....I hope to make it to the West at some point, it could be 2-3 years, but certainly dreaming of it regularly. You're doing awesome!

Agreed on the double edged sword! Less flexibility now for more potential in the future (hopefully)! I will get the AT done one day!! That's awesome. 80 days sounds like an awesome, full year! I'd love to get into paddling. Having that group sounds like such a blessing! and having standing adventures is so fun. Thanks for sharing your plans as well, have fun!! Hope you do get to make it out west at some point too!

Awesome plans! I’ve got the Linville Gorge Grand Loop, Pine Mountain State Scenic trail, finish section hiking the BMT, challenge myself and do the Art Loeb in one day, potentially a backpacking trip out in Colorado, help my mom finish the Bartram, and various other weekend warrior style trips I can fit in 😊. Happy trails! 🥾

WOWOWOW! You've got a full summer ahead, that's awesome! I know the fitting it in struggle for sure! If only we could backpack forever with no other obligations haha. Happy trails to you as well!

Be forewarned, you will feel a strong desire to beef up your first aid kit after completing the WFR course 😅! My observation anyway. It’s a great course for building confidence in those situations it serves to train you for and of course if you want to get into the guiding world then you will need it for sure. Good luck with all of your plans. Sounds like you will have a challenging and rewarding year on the trail.

I've anticipated this hahah I'm sure I will have similar results. Hopefully, I'll be able to find a good amount of multi-purpose items and it won't add tooooo much weight. Thanks so much!!

Great plan! I'm also planning to thru hike the Ozark Trail this year. I looked at the FKT info and decided I'll just enjoy my leisurely 2 week walk in the woods. 😂

The men's record is a lot harder to beat right now haha. I actually met Kevin (who holds the unsupported and is also from Missouri) on the CDT. He definitely inspired me to check out the women's record and make an attempt of it!

  • @JasonSnailer

I really like your upcoming plans, especially the Arizona Trail in the FKT attempt that will be a lot of fun for you and also a lot of fun for your faithful viewers to get to see what all goes into preparing for an FKT. next week I will be through hiking the Lonestar trail in Texas, even though it did not come highly recommended by the good badger and Jabba lmao

      @eliseott  4 месяца назад

thank you!! I'm excited, a little nervous, but mostly excited. It will be a "chill" FKT (if that's a thing) but I'll be giving it my best. Healing up a small foot injury at the moment, but maybe I'll make a video about my training plan soon! I've heard very good things about Texas, there's something special about deserts in my opinion. Have fun!

Love this and your whole approach. I know you’ve talked about your training program in a past video, and would love to see another video dive a bit deeper into your training. I’ll be doing the Trans-Catalina Trail, Pictured Rocks trail, and an Andrew Skurka trip in Sierras. Plus plenty of day hiking in the Adirondacks.

I love this idea. I am no training expert but happy to talk about my approach. The Trans-Catalina Trail has been on my list for ages! It sounds so fun. A Skurka trip too, I've heard nothing but rave reviews of his trips! Have so much fun!

awesome!! they'll be very different hikes/environments (between the thru-hikes and high route) so I'm excited to show the differences between them!

@@eliseott I'm probably naive but whenever I see thru hikers not taking the high route I'm like nooo as to me I always wanna be taking the high route cos it seems cooler😆 but I get it for safety etc!

@@hobbitholebooks832 haha no I get that! I think it’s also a logistical thing a lot of times. They take way longer than the trail through the same areas usually and resupply and everything can be tough.

@@eliseott I can only imagine! especially when you having to speed up toward the end. can't wait to experience it on my own *fingers crossed I get let in on a B2* thru hike in a few years time! gonna be hard I think having left my home country for years and not returning till after the hike 😅 going to Nepal this week for a 3 week trek, my longest yet! but we have proper tea houses and stuff there so kinda cheating lol
