Last week I just took delivery of mine. I got the Dual Motor AWD with the Plus Package. So far I'm loving it. It's great to drive, excellent handling, and very comfortable.
Since you don't have the pilot package can you give any input on the standard active driver assistance capabilities? I'm considering the Polestar 2 but if adaptive cruise control and emergency braking aren't included I'm thinking I would rather go with the ID.4 or Audi Q4.
Looks like a very nice BEV. Its relative inefficiency vs Tesla is significant, but the Tesla stands out here, most other BEVs will be similar to the Polestar. It's a hatchback, which would be pretty important for many purchasers. I don't know why Tesla doesn't offer a hatchback version of its Model 3, the Model Y is bigger and more expensive. The ride of the Polestar in this video is obviously less jittery and more comfortable in the video compared to the sport model or the Tesla in your other video. One other thing most reviews never mention - all models of the Polestar are able to tow 1.5 tonnes. That's almost unique and that level of towing brings many medium sized caravans into contention, even with front wheel drive. .
Referring to 5:40 in Thomas´ noteworthy review: Yesterday I had the chance of testing a Polestar2. My big concern: that wide center console. And as Thomas put it, it felt more than just cramped, I couldn´t find a pleasant seating position at all, and spacewise I found myself sitting on a small car´s driver seat. What´s more: the top of that console is really hard plastic and the lower edge of it hurt my knee. I cannot comprehend why it was designed that way. Thus I had to de-shortlist this car, most regrettably! (I´m 6ft.).
but it’s a fastback with decent cargo space unlike the Model 3. in Sweden the P2 SM SR pretty much cost the same as the Marvel R (add €3000 and you get fully loaded tri motor Marvel R).
the timing is insane. I JUST spent 20 minutes looking at their webpage configuring something nice. I think its super unfortunate the base model does not have Adaptive cruise control. That should be base equipment in that class/price range. Its a 4000€ package in denmark! I got it in my cheap fiesta for like 1000€ 4 years ago.. it makes no sense (from a consumer standpoint) not to include it. From a business standpoint, its damn smart to force people to spend 4k, while you can say it "starts from x price".
if they priced it at 40k, they would sell a lot of them. But, at 50k, it is in M3SR+ territory which is faster, more efficient, more spacious, etc. That is, a tough sell.
Very comprehensive review, and I’ll also add my thanks for covering the base model. I’m seriously considering a P2 early next year but this is the first review I’ve seen mention the high console near the right knee. That could be a deal breaker, it’s something I’ll pay attention to when I test drive.
Hi, thx for a great review but you should really highlight that you need to add the pilot package for adaptive cruise control @ 4k eur and also that you need to spend another 4k eur on the plus package to get the heatpump. -this is quite silly really! -otherwise it could have been my next car.
I have a test drive of this booked in Australia next month, I decided to try the base model. It will give me the chance to try out the platform and convince why it makes no sense to make FWD electric cars. It will forever be chopping out power when you need it most. This will be enough to push most base model customers towards the Model 3. In Australia, the base models are both $59,900, but you need to option up two packages on the Polestar to get simmilar equipment levels of the Model 3.
Not true. The front wheel drive makes no difference unless you're a boy racer and trying to show off at the traffic lights. Its a better car than the Model 3. Questionable if it's better than the model Y.
Hm I always think EV should have either AWD or RWD drive. FWD is just not good enough. It is ok if you have a small engine like in the Dacia Spring with 45HP, but in bigger ones a no go. Carwow and others tested how easily the tires start to slip lacking traction. Which will wear them out very easily (expensive)...
@KoiOntwikkeling hm I tested like 10-12 different EVs and all those with FWD without exception had their wheels loose traction and spin wild when starting off with a bit off punch. the e engines simply develop sonmuch torque instantaneously that FWD cannot usually cope with it. effect after some time are worn out tires...

I’ve ordered the single motor standard range, without additional packages. The heat pump and the adaptive cruise control would have been very nice, but in the Netherlands that would add up to €8.500 more on the base price. I don’t find that worth it. Price difference is minimal, so it's insane to buy the front drive version. You get a lot of extra performance and 4 wheel drive for extra confidence in winter time
Minimal? The Single Motor Standard Range is 100.000 SEK cheaper than the Dual Motor Long Range. That's almost $11.300 cheaper (or 17%~ cheaper). That's almost a 5th of the total car price. I would not call that minimal. And even in a snowy country like Sweden, FWD or RWD is sufficient when you have winter tires.
Unfortunately I can’t watch your channel Thomas , the last year the videos jitter and stutter , I’ve fast fiber broadband I don’t know whats the problem .
2 things... First, out of curiosity, I've just put the word Autogefuhl in to Google Translate... Apart from it thinking it was a Spanish word ( jeez 🙄), once I'd corrected it to German, the English translation came back as "car feeling"...? Is that about right, Thomas...? 🤔 And, second, I think Polestar has dropped a clanger with making this single-motor model front-wheel-drive... Like you found out yourself, Thomas, pulling out of tight junctions - wet or dry, I imagine - creates wheelspin and torque-steer rather than that satisfying, hunker-down 'pushing' sensation with a rear-wheel-drive set up, like in the base Model 3. I know which version I would prefer, for sure...
There is much more to a car than how far it will go. If you look at the EV database figures and other RUclips reviews, the teslas do not go that much further at motorway speeds. For long journeys where at least one big charge is needed, the difference is 10 minutes extra - so what? What I care more about is build quality, comfort and design. I have seen too many Teslas with poor fit and finished and lights full of condensation/water. Yes Tesla's charging network is very good but in the UK now there are many many high power chargers that are very easy to use. All credit to Tesla et al for what they have acheived but the rest of the world is catching up fast.
You sound like a true fanboy - you have no interest in cars in general and don't care about the look and feel of the car you drive - for you it's just a household appliance.
@@AngeloGuardia Volvo was never a premium brand, they always had screeching plastics and failing electrics, the expensive mechanical parts though were (almost) always incredibly long lived (like that P1800 with a gazillion miles on it). I'd say the quality has gone up after Ford sold them though. The sales have steadily increased since then in any case. Any ways, geely seem to have a more hands-off-approach than Ford did - it is more Swedish now than under Ford!

A lot of German speakers seem to make this mistake. You should say, "This is what it looks like" or "This is how it looks" - one or the other. It is incorrect to say, "This is how it looks like".
You are correct of course, but our reviewer in the video speaks very articulately with excellent diction, and frankly more correctly and is easier to understand than 80% of English speakers. It's a minor quibble, and really, is it worth pointing this out when your German may be, for all I know, non-existent - certainly most Brits and Anglophones have no or very poor foreign language skills.
I wouldnt buy it even with your money, i think volvos are no good mechanically, i mean they last longer than the french cars (renault, psa) but thats it
Volvo drive trains are planned for (out of memory) 350.000km whereas many other plan for 240.000km vehicle life time - if there are issues, it is more due to lack of budget and personnel to cover all possible angles of issues due to Volvo being much smaller than VW/PSA/GM/...
@@mattetjus no its not, know plenty of vehicles that last longer. The problem of volvo is the handling and suspension is soft, and give issues on engine specially overheating, so maybe in the 60s were better but not today, i wouldnt buy one neither its ev copy polestar

Apart from it thinking it was a Spanish word ( jeez 🙄), once I'd corrected it to German, the English translation came back as "car feeling"...? Is that about right, Thomas...? 🤔
And, second, I think Polestar has dropped a clanger with making this single-motor model front-wheel-drive...
Look at the consumption figures:
Polestar 2 LR FWD - 176 wh/km
Tesla 3 RWD - 150 wh/km
Who will buy the Polestar 2?
People who can see beyond specs and want to drive something different than the obvious choice?
I'd never buy a Tesla. Have you seen the panel gaps on those things? The fit and finish on a Tesla wouldn't pass muster on a 1980's Austin Allegro.
@@AWMJoeyjoejoe Panel gabs on Teslas are history. I have inspected some Model Ys from China. They are perfect. Watch your self.
Sad to see Volvo going fully Chinese quality :(, Thomas on top of all always great
This isn't a Volvo..
... And, at least, it isn't American-built ;-) (though the polestar 3 will supposedly be built at an American Volvo factory)
@@mattetjus Volvo was sold to the Chinese, so I guess is just starting to show :/
@@AngeloGuardia Volvo was never a premium brand, they always had screeching plastics and failing electrics, the expensive mechanical parts though were (almost) always incredibly long lived (like that P1800 with a gazillion miles on it).
I'd say the quality has gone up after Ford sold them though. The sales have steadily increased since then in any case.
Any ways, geely seem to have a more hands-off-approach than Ford did - it is more Swedish now than under Ford!
@@mattetjus I know, but used to have an overall European car quality feeling
@@AngeloGuardia I tried it a couple of times. And it does have that european feel. And that’s coming from an Audi owner…
EXPENSIVE
We have bad web connection (famous google system studdering like vw). On the screen: all reception bars full and lte. 🤔 android os in cars or tv? Thanks, keep it. Interesting, for the time BMW went with CarPlay only everybody journalists complaining and whining about missing android. Today no mentioning that in android operated cars no CarPlay. As always…Apple bashing brings the money.
I'm an Apple user, not apple bashing..
Car Play is coming out soon for Poletsar 2.
A lot of German speakers seem to make this mistake. You should say, "This is what it looks like" or "This is how it looks" - one or the other. It is incorrect to say, "This is how it looks like".
English has become the language of the world, hence we have the responsibility to follow the grammar but also to change it.
It doesn't matter. Don't sweat the small stuff. Enjoy life.
Can someone explain to me how Tesla can make faster car like model 3 at the same price?
Finally saw one on the street. Nothing to get excited about. Boring exterior design! Take a Tesla 3 or Y any day. Volvo is all hype.
FWD...

Compares to Model 3, this looks meh. But is a push km the right direction by Volvo.
Tesla model 3 is ugly. Its ok from the side and back, but the front... yuck!
@@pereklund9172 still hate the plastic interior in teslas doenthe kind of money they're charging it should be nicer materials.
So sexy, the car is ok too xD
You are hilarious.
subpar car
Ugly 1980's styling. Nothing to like except its electric.
What a boring car
Tesla fan-boy? Lol...
