I was looking at the polestar 2 when searching for an EV. I wanted a sedan with a hatch. But it was 60K for the version i wanted. 10K more than the Premium Mustang Mach-E I have now. PLUS there wasnt a rear wheel drive option 1.5 years ago and the mustang was much faster in its RWD version than the front wheel drive Polestar 2. But its nice to see how much they've improved the Polestar 2.
Great video! I graduated from CU Boulder in 1995 so enjoyed the canyon roads! My Long Range RWD Polestar just arrived in the county and will be delivered to me here in South Australia within the next few weeks. I opted for the RWD model as it has heaps of power, amazing range and also got the Pilot package with all the driving assist and fancy headlights. I think it’s the reincarnation of an early 2000s Australian V8 Holden Commodore sedan in looks and driving style - an electric tame muscle car if you like. I opted against the sunroof/leather but did get the tow package. The AWD in Australia does get the big battery and fast charging, so that’s interesting. I don’t plan on off-roading mine, so RWD is best. We do also get a Standard Range RWD with an even smaller battery. We don’t have a lot of choice in Australia if you don’t want a Tesla. We have the Recharge Volvos, and we get the ID5 next year which I like and also a few cheaper BMWs soon apparently. I am looking forward to taking my P2 on some very long road trips across to Western Australia and down to Tasmania, so stay tuned if you’re a Polestar fan!
Nice review. The biggest issue I have is that dealer network. I’m not going to even look at a car that you can’t have serviced in my town. The closest dealer or service center is 200 miles away, and I’m in a major city.
It's a pretty bold move to change the drivetrain halfway through a vehicle's production cycle. Usually manufacturers tend to wait to the end of that cycle before changing the drivetrain for a new generation.
EVs offer opportunities like this which wouldn’t be feasible on ICE vehicles.. I think the Chevy Equinox EV may offer FWD, AWD, and RWD options - at least that’s what they said at one point..
27:00 wow, the clarity and beautiful video shots are amazing. Of course I was listening to the information which as always is top notch, but the images are striking!
The LRSM will be the sweet spot for most folks who dont need AWD. Polestar also passes on the federal tax credit to you if you lease via lease loophole, and they're now giving you $8,500 if you get a '24. The Model 3 is the better buy but the P*2 is the better lease.
I'm looking very closely at the RWD Polestar 2 and plan to test one soon. (I briefly drove my cousin's 2023 AWD version, and thought it was great.) It seems like an excellent blend of practicality, efficiency, style, and performance. I'd like the power of the AWD version, to be sure, but the RWD should have enough punch for a daily driver, and I want that version's additional range and faster charging. The upcoming NACS adapter is a huge plus relative to Hyundai/Kia. Otherwise, the Ioniq 5 might be at the top of my list. I drove one, and it's fantastic.
I'd cross-shop the Polestar 2 with the Audi E-tron. Reason being they both depreciate HEAVILY and I'm a used car shopper :) Getting a $70k or $80k car for $30k after 2-4 years seems like steal.
This car is so much better looking than the Model 3, including the new one. Unfortunately, as long as the CCS charging network remains the trash fire that it is, this car is fighting an uphill battle.
Polestar has inked an agreement with Tesla for access to the Supercharger network and will have a NACS adaptor availble in 2024. So the best of both worlds for the CCS Polestars.
Disappointed that they did not fix the cupholder/center console issue. Since I regularly road trip with my wife, that is a serious negative. Otherwise, RWD with Pilot would be ideal for me.
They did in the Polestar 3, 4, etc. The Polestar 2 wasn't designed as a Polestar. It was supposed to be a Volvo but Volvo decided not to use the body. So Polestar adapted the body and made some mistakes with the center console. That won't change IMO in any redesign.
Polestar's website calls it a "fastback" & I agree - not everything has to be a SUV. Love it. I'd go with the RWD version. Actually, I lust for the Polestar 1, but don't know how to trap a unicorn. :)
I just priced one on their website at $53,600 for the base RWD with adaptive cruise and a trailer hitch added😮 and that’s with the current $1000 discount and one usable cup holder. No deal. Make it $40k and I’m interested.
I would cross shop this against the Genesis GV60. Or more accurately, I would include the PS2 in competition between GV60 and new XC40. The SUVs are livable and practical, but the PS2 is sexy and has that fastback hatch that I loved in my tC.
I proved that the Tesla Model 3 Performance can go 340-350 miles on a charge by driving on the freeway at a constant 65 mph if fitted with 19" aftermarket Aero wheels and low-rolling resistance tires. Video proof on my channel 🐍😎
After seeing the refreshed model 3, this still seems like a better vehicle in many ways… except price, if the refreshed model 3 retains only $3750 tax credit, and the price only increases about $1-2k per trim, that would put it somewhere in the $45k range, vs 60k for this but if you lease polestar 2 also the switch to LFP is delightful
This leases very well since they take $8500 off of the price between the credit and incentives. I don't think purchasing a PS2 outright is a good idea.
The rear seat is a nonstarter. I would like to have some of that cargo space for the rear seat passengers. I think I’d prefer an Ionic5 N. If the EV6 GT adds cooled and power seats in the future that would be a preference as well. Still can push myself enough to buy a Tesla.
Volvo is more of a Scandinavian premium brand and Polestar is more like a slightly/somewhat sportier brand. It’s definitely not more luxurious in my eyes at least 🤔
I'm trying not to be too interested in Polestar, as the nearest service center to me is about 400 miles away. Untenable. At least when they were part of Volvo the local Volvo dealer was an option.
Love the looks, but for the price, I'll pass. The 2025 Volvo EX30 seems like a better buy. We're talking small SUV to a fastback. I'm guessing the EX30 will be a lot cheaper when it's released next year.
I love this car. However, their service centers are not many. Does anyone have issue not having service centers closer? I have eone about 250 miles away.
I bought a used 2021 launch edition Polestar 2 with 5k miles on it. It was a Hertz rental car with low miles but still in good shape. Hertz did no OTA updates, so It is stuck on an old version. Everything else seemed to work fine except passenger side mirror motors going slow the last week or two. This week is the car's 2yr service appointment, which is complimentary, even to the second owner. Polestar sent a flatbed (Chicago) and towed it to Detroit, 279 miles away, gave me a $200 Lyft voucher to get to Hertz so I could use the 2023 Polestar 2 loaner they got me. When service is done, they will flatbed back my car to me. Not idea as I would rather have one close but pretty amazing service until it is local.
Ty Alex. This 2024 Polestar 2 is Way Too Expensive for what a customer is getting for the money. Compared to my 2023 MYLR, it has no FSD, and too many buttons. As a customer, the turnoff for me is the PRICE: Way too pricey for what you are getting. If i want to pay 70+k for a fully loaded model, I'll get me, a base Rivian, or a Tesla Model S, or even swing a Tesla model X, all much simpler and intuitive to drive with excellent track record. This is a refresh model, and probably will need few quirks worked on down the road. Nice & informative video as usual Alex, Ty
For a car this sized, it's extremely cramped in the interior. Massive centre console, massive rear floor hump. And the recycled plastic woven seat material will make you sweat like a thief in the night.
Yeah you'll never get 270 range on dual motor, maybe 220, in real world, for this price no thanks, plus lack of service centers. This one at this price almost $68k, no way,
