This was beautiful. For those that don't fully understand the meaning of the song, it's written from the point of view of a man who had lost one son in war and his only surviving son was leaving to go into battle and was most likely not going to survive.
I was always told that this was from a mother's POV. Having been a soldier for 23 years and been sent to war three times, I can tell you that it is far more likely that my dear sainted mother had these sentiments as opposed to my father. Remember, no matter how long a man may live he will always be her boy to his mother. Oh, BTW, my mother was an Ulster Scot.

Beautiful. As I've commented before, this was one of my Dad's favorite songs and he used to sing it while driving (in Ireland where I grew up). Most appropriately, today June 10th would have been my parents' (both now passed) 67th wedding anniversary so this was a beautiful surprise in my notifications today - thank you Sangah ❤️

As a trumpet player, I have always played this song in the key of Bb (my key of C). I was playing along with you here where you are playing in the key of C (my key of D). The song, at least on the trumpet sounds so much better in this key as opposed to down a step. Something of a revelation to me how different a song can sound when transposed. Thank you.

It is so simple playing one chord then another then another. That compailation of chords and simple sounds is a favorite around the world. You just brought it up a notch or two. I have to compare this song to a mathmatic equation like Einstein's E=MC2. It is simple and precise. But in its simplicity one can discover the secrets of the universe. It is profound simplicity.
DANNY BOY is simple and precise and beautiful. But I rarely see a man that it doesnt bring to tears. That is profound.
