Ducati's website shows the base model as a measly $500 more than the Husqvarna 701. Given that the Ducati has a well sorted out electronics package, I think it's a bargain.
The price difference from the Husky 701 SM up to the Ducati 698 is not a measly 500$ , it is almost 2400$ if we are comparing the retail price of the 2023 Husqvarna 701 supermoto to what the brand new Ducati will cost. Since the Husqvarna 701 SM is already stupid expensive for a single cylinder bike, that makes the almost 13 400 $ Ducati even more stupid and so overpriced for what it is. I bought the KTM 690 Enduro R 2020 for 8200$ so I think used is the way to go with these bikes. Anything else is stupid to me.
@@Dr.MichaelsMotorcycles They are not that close, that is why you did not realize it. The prices on motorcycles has gotten more and more ridiculous in recent years. This bike in Sweden where I live will cost 12 300 € (13 403 $ or 10,720£) when it releases next year. For a single cylinder SM kind of bike it is just insane to me what they are asking. 2-3 years after release I could probably buy this bike used for a more human price tag. Many of the electronics like a traction control system that you can adjust in like 8 different settings is also so unnecessary on a bike that does not even make 80 horsepower, things like that add to the price and is not even needed. They are putting so much electronics in bikes with "lower" power like this one just to be able to fool people to pay a lot more for the bikes. I am not that kind of person that wants every bike raw and without electronics, I love good tech on bikes. But for instance, an advanced traction control system on a bike that does maybe 65HP on the back wheel is overkill and something you pay extra for in vain. These bikes are pure goon bikes and a switchable on/off ABS and perhaps bluetooth in the display so you can switch your death metal music in your helmet via handlebar switches while pulling fat wheelies is everything you need when it comes to electronics on a bike like this. I guess the adjustable wheelie control could be cool while practicing wheelies as a beginner, but after a couple of months when you can rip fat wheelies for longer you will not need it anymore.
I ride with abs off 900% of the time and traction control off as I sometimes like to be in a slight drift. that being said for someone that doesn't ride that hard these functions will absolutely make you faster in the turns. this is about as close to a full fledge street legal race bike supermoto as you can get and the amount of money that goes into the design is crazy. @mathias6423 service is high anywhere. But they actually do service work. @@zombiemachinery4868 I agree about the over inflated prices on Ducati, I do not think a price difference above 2000$ for a very similar bike is keeping it close though. My friend took his Ducati Supersport 950 (that street sport bike that looks like a supersport) to the big desmo-service 3 months ago where they among other things CHECK the valves. They did not even have to adjust the valves only check them, price for his desmo-service was 1300$ HAHA! I read on the internet on forums that kind of price is common for the desmoservices on Ducati. I did my big service on my KTM 690 -2020 this summer at the KTM shop and it was 570$, adjusting valves was one of the tings they did. With that in mind + the Ducati weighs more and it has like 10nm less torque which is a substantial number in this weight-class, I think the Ducati really is a bad deal officially. Buying a 701/690 used in mint condition with almost no miles on it for around 8500$ (I can find many on the used market) is the way to go instead of spending that insane money on the Ducati.
You are paying a lot for electronics and shit on the Ducati which you wont even need at sub 80 horsepower and you are paying a lot just for the brand, a brand that is trying to rip you off
Watching from India, even if they launch it here, priced lower than the US(unlikely, probably double the cost due to our tax). I’ll still not be able to afford it😂.. I envy the amount of choices y’all get there
Thanks for tuning in! Are motorcycles typically prices lower in India? What percent tax do you have to pay on new motorbikes?
@@Dr.MichaelsMotorcycles bikes manufactured here are priced decently by Indian pricing standards to low by western standards. But the imported, most large capacity(650cc and above) bikes are priced extremely high due to bureaucracy. The government, under the guise of promoting the “make in India” campaign, profits tremendously by levying astronomical import tax. It ranges anywhere between 50% + GST to 80% + GST to the total overall cost of the bike, hence we end up paying twice the amount of what you guys typically pay basically.
@@crazybikinifighter Very interesting. It's too bad imports are taxed so high! I've started exploring Indian-made motorcycles more and have seen some really nice looking bikes. The TVS Apache 310RR really stood out in the small displacement sport bike segment. What are some of the most popular in India right now?
@@Dr.MichaelsMotorcycles yeah, the Apache’s a pretty cool feature laden bike for sure. I guess you already know the same manufacturer, TVS, manufactures the smaller capacity BMWs(G310R,G310RR & 310GS) and share the same engine and platform with the Apache. BMW just rebadges the Apache with no changes, apart from the colors, and charges a premium for technically the same bike here😅.. In the performance/premium motorcycle space, KTMs(Duke & RC 125, 200, 250,390), Yamaha MT15, R15, most Royal Enfields, Hero Xpulse, TVS Apache, Triumph 400s are currently leading the market sales.
@@crazybikinifighter Super helpful, thank you! I am trying to appeal more to the Indian market since it is one of the biggest for motorbike sales.
In the Netherlands its about 400-600 euros more expensive than the 690/700/701... So... Its not thaaaaat bad
Nice, thanks for sharing! Not too much of a difference.
Its had a competitor on the market for YEARS and at a significantly cheaper price. Get a Husqvarna 701 Supermoto.
Good point, forgot about that!
For the extra, surely the 950 is better 'value'?
Yeah just buy a used 950 or a used 701/690 those are fantastic bikes and you can get the 701/690 used bikes that are almost brand new for 8500$ on the used market, at least here in Sweden.
For me the 950 would be better value. The base price in the US is $15295 with standard quickshifter. The sound of the 937 twin is also fantastic. Plus you are getting substantial gains in both HP and torque. The base price of the 698 mono is $12995 and doesn't even come with a quick shifter.
@@Dr.MichaelsMotorcycles Yeah that is what I am saying dude, it is extremely overpriced for what it is, a one cylinder bike. I would also rather have the 950, only downside is like 50 kg more weight. So it is more bike for the money literally :P
@@Dr.MichaelsMotorcyclesThe sound of a single is really brutal too man, like i prob said, I have the 690 Enduro R with a full arrow system on it and the bigger evo stage 2 air filter and the bike sounds brutal.
Sure the 950 with a full system sounds awesome too but there is something braaapy and "wet fart" sounding with a single :D
However I just realized that you can get a used Hyper 950 that is almost brand new for a lot cheaper now than a brand new 698 will be haha. With that in mind I much rather save a lot of money and go for a used 950, in Sweden I have seen them used for right above 9500$ under 5000 miles with termi slip-ons and quickshifter.
Add that to a brand new Hyper 699 and you are well above 15000$ if not over 16000$
It's a Ducati. If you put an Italian flag sticker on the tank jacked the price by 3k and called it a limited edition ducati people would buy it.
That's basically what they did with the RVE version here 😂
Haha yeah, you just described the typical "Ducatista" fanboy perfectly
@@Dr.MichaelsMotorcycles If you are tall enough you should go for a used 690/701 supermoto/enduro
For that price and it doesn’t even have Ohlins suspension. All keep my ktm 890r Duke thank you.
The 890R is a fantastic bike! I think in general, KTM offers great value.
Just buy the GasGas if you must have a red supermoto bike, which is what this bike actually is.
I wasn't too familiar with the GasGas - thanks for mentioning, very cool looking bike and seems a good value.
im here in Vietnam and it cost the same with the 690 or 701 so it still good
Awesome, thank you for watching! It's great that the prices are so similar there - it gives you a lot of good choices.
@@Dr.MichaelsMotorcycles Actually, all of them are expensive :((
@@vinhnguyenthe6927 Oh man, that's too bad! What are some of the most popular bikes in Vietnam right now?
@@Dr.MichaelsMotorcycles The modest height of Vietnamese people makes motorbikes with seat heights over 850mm less popular here. But off-road is becoming more and more popular, so dirt bike models are gradually gaining a foothold. I hope that with the appearance of 698 Mono, supermoto will become popular in my country.
@@Dr.MichaelsMotorcyclesthe smc price here is ridiculous; it costs nearly 20k$ here for a smc 690, the hypermotard 698 is a bit lower actually
Its a Nice bike, but no special alloys, single cylinder, steel frame....big sticker price😢 no thanks, other bikes
That's a good summary - I agree!
Presa in arrivo a febbraio rve con scarico.
Congratulazioni! È una bellissima motocicletta.
It is a very beautiful bike but Ducati pirates are capitalizing too much on farting bike.
I got a S1000RR Race edition for $30000 AUD and this one is asking for the same price if I want all the bells and whistles however it is not half a bike my bimmer is.
I agree! I am actually thinking of going back to BMW for my next bike. I really like the M1000R.
@@Dr.MichaelsMotorcycles I test rode the new S1000R in Dec 2022. It was a blast to ride. The reason I didn't trade my S1000RR was I would lose too much.
Maybe don't go for the M version if you opt to save on the cosmetics and looks (my opinion only, brother). However M versions have the best look.
Problem is supermotos are basically just toys with limited usefulness, especially one like this that isn't fit for competition. So you gotta be pretty rich to afford a toy like this.
That might be their target audience with this release. I thought this would be a fun bike with a cool engine, but at that price it doesn't make sense.
No surprise, that's why it's a Ducati. Too many threads everywhere where posters whine why so expensive Ducati. For those who complain, that's why they sell Suzuki and Yamaha.
Why would you want wheelie control on a SUPERMOTO??? is my question
They probably don't want amateur riders looping their bikes and crashing 😂
Its actually a wheelie mode not anti wheelie.😊
@@thecornishbiker9323 The software for wheelie control serves two purposes. There is the classic anti-wheelie software that is present on other modern Ducatis. There is also a wheelie mode as you mentioned that helps keep wheelies going longer.
ktm 690 smc r much better
I like this KTM a lot as well.
Hey, its Mr Karter.
Aaaand that's my cue to shave the mustache 😂
17k for single cylinder bike 😅
Crazy right!
Pass. I was looking at it but it is underpowered and looks like you're riding a bicycle especially if you are taller. I think this is going to be a flop.
I'm thinking the premium price is coming from the new engine. They're really trying to push to technical features of this motor. You never know with Ducati, they have a very loyal fan base.
@@Dr.MichaelsMotorcycles the resale value is probably going to be really bad too
Highest revving single cylinder engine?? Ktms laughing at a corner😂. Even yamaha R series singles rev more than 11k haha.
I believe the KTM 690 Enduro has red line at 8k RPM and rev limiter at 9k RPM.
@@Dr.MichaelsMotorcycles 8.700 rpm I think it was and can be increased safely to 9200 rpm limiter. But still more torque then the ducati which is a bigger differernce then being able to rev an extra 1-2k.
Suddenly the overpriced Austrians seem affordable. Thanks Du TAX i
😂😂
You don't look like you could afford the brochure.
I knew I should have shaved the 'stache and worn a suit!
@@Dr.MichaelsMotorcycleslol - that’s exactly how you tell a troll to suck it without telling a troll to go suck it! And I agree, the price put this beauty out of my range.
The sooner folks will realise that ducatis are super overpriced the better
😂
Prone to breakdown. Waste of money. No peace of mind. Stranded in a workshop more often rather than riding on the street to have fun. Italian bikes sux big time. Only a stupid richman will buy.
I'm not sure that's true these days. The reliability of Ducati has significantly improved in the modern bikes and they offer a good warranty. For what it's worth, I own a 2023 Monster and have not have any issues come up. My last bike was a BMW G310R and had a leaking water cooler right after purchase.
