    Specialized Pathfinder pro is the tire for this. Knobs only serve to collect more mud.
    Also, spray tire with silicon before ride.

    • @nniemeyer
      @nniemeyer 2 года назад

      I rode this with Pathfinder Pro, without silicon however, still clogged super quick with 42s on a Diverge. Hike a bike was the only option in the mud consistency we had later in the day.

    Someone needs to tell the announcer's that in mud you actually want a slightly narrower slick tire. All the knobs would do is cause the mud to cake on more until it begins to interfere with the clearance between the frame. Would not help traction at all and in fact would hurt it.

    I think the 9mi mud you all were talking about was when I rode in 2015- that stuff was mind blowing, how slick and sticky and heavy it was. I didn't get off my bike on a single climb all day, but the second you faltered or slowed too much on the mud, you were done.

    Why is this called "gravel" racing? This is mud racing. I've seen other videos of "gravel" races, featuring mud slogs like this, ponds of water to have to ride through, as well as rock garden trails that could be featured in mountain bike trail or enduro racing. In these days of bicycle specialty manufacturing, where we have XC, trail, enduro, downhill, and even bikes specially engineered for mtb parks, what does it really mean to designate a race as "gravel"? Just curious.

    • @stuartdilts2729
      @stuartdilts2729 2 года назад

      Gravel really just means unpaved roads. Since they are on a bunch of under maintained farm roads in Kansas, it gets like this when it's wet. If they did the ride later in the season, I imagine it would be fine, but they would then need to deal with the full heat of summer.

    • @aethylwulfeiii6502
      @aethylwulfeiii6502 Год назад

      Mountain biking requires mountains and single track. Kansas has neither. MTBs are way too slow for this kind of racing and lack drops and hoods to alternate positions on the bike.

    She’s tough. Also, she’s not “from Argentina.” Her family moved to America when very young and she acts and talks like an American. Went to Fort Lewis College in Durango. She has dual citizenship so riding for Argentina was the way to get to the Olympics. So for my money she’s basically “from America.” Riding with Keegan Swenson has obviously been a plus. They almost went 1st and 1st. Basically they are the First Couple of MTB/gravel.

    • @sofiagomezvillafane5660
      @sofiagomezvillafane5660 2 года назад +4

      I was born and raised in Argentina. Moved to the US when I was 12. Yes I have become very “Americanized” but my roots and where I grew up have a profound impact on the person I am today. I really don’t appreciate you making the assumption that Riding for Argentina was a way to make it to the Olympics because it was not, plus by UCI rules my racing nationality will always be ARG.
      You say I “and and talk” like an American yet you have no idea the struggles I went through as a young kid trying to “fit in” and not be different from everyone else, hello major identity crisis at 15. I took me a long time to be proud of being different, to embrace my background and all the struggles we faced to just move to America for a better future.

    • @tommyrq180
      @tommyrq180 2 года назад

      @@sofiagomezvillafane5660 Thanks for responding. Let’s be fair. Everybody struggles to fit in and everyone goes through identity crises-that’s called life. Nobody can say, nor should we claim, that ours were somehow worse than others. You should, in fairness, have noted how your obvious athletic talent helped you navigate those crises. You had advantages lots and lots of people don’t have as well as struggles. I appreciate your dedication to cycling and your results continue to improve which shows grit and determination. Also let’s be fair about riding for Argentina versus trying to make the US team. The US team is deeper and harder to make. Now, if a female US rider went to, say, France or the Netherlands to try to make that team, it would be a lot, lot harder. That’s just the way things are and I certainly don’t denigrate you for it-opportunity you had that you I’m sure are grateful for. Let’s return to my first statement. “She’s tough.” You might focus on that and I’d love to hear more about all the people who helped you along the way become such a tough, resilient rider who could solo away like this. I’m grateful for athletes like you. What are you grateful for? I’d love to hear either one particular thing that happened in this race or perhaps in preparation. Would be awesome. Thanks!
