That's the most depressing first 5 minutes I've heard in a while.
I get what he's saying, but in a world of free market economics, without quantifiable measure, there is NO way to make a living FROM artistic activities.
And it's not the social media platforms. Before them, TV and Movies were measured in ratings, tickets sold, rentals, dvd sales, awards won at festivals, oscars, etc. That's Joseph's world.
So if we're starting by admitting that the fight is already lost to AI, say goodbye to art. Cause the only people who will be able to pursue art will be trust fund babies. Art is muted if it's just a hobby you do on the weekends, and can't afford to make it your main pursuit. Without the capacity to make a living from art, there is no way to meaningfully develop a craft and build on the art.
