I remember watching friends and thinking Rachel looked so cute when her hair was up! I think the "flattening" effect of photography vs. video/ real life is relevant here.
I found your channel yesterday and I love it because you actually provide logical proofs for your styling theories, on the contrary of the majority of people (not all but most) that talk about face shape/colour season/body types etc and just repeat what other people before them said without questioning if it makes actual sense or not. Keep it up!
Thank you so much! You're right - I don't see much content out there that takes a logical approach to styling so I saw it as an opportunity to provide something different :) Glad you're enjoying my content and I'll do my best to keep providing useful info!
@@stylerefinement no but really, I've been into these topics for years and your channel is truly a gem. Yours and Dear Peachie are the only ones that so far provided real insight and a breath of fresh air. New subscriber from Italy here 🥰
@@lauragoreni3020 Huge fan of Dear Peachie as well! I'm trying to take a similar approach but with a less focus on Asian examples and also want to provide some practical tips through my Shorts :) More to come! Thank you for the support - hello from Canada 🥰♥
I actually feel like Jen’s muscles make ther unique face shape shine and come together pretty well. She looks gorgeous in that black dress and that updo while her usual look makes her look less unique imo.
I thought I was crazy about the trap muscle thing. I always felt my neck was too short because of them, mine are pretty developed at any weight. It makes me a bit sad because women with ''swan necks'' are always so praised and I love wearing off the shoulder clothing, but I think I learned to live with it! Your channel is a gem, I'm literally binging all of your videos and learning a lot. I'm rooting for your channel's growth, your content is amazing!
Thank you so much for the compliment :) I have pretty developed trap muscles and I also have swimmer's shoulders so I can relate! I've always tried to wear hair or clothes that suit the "swan neck" ladies better and wondered why I couldn't quite pull them off. But like you said we learn to live with it, and I'm hoping what I share will help people find styles that makes them feel good in!
Ohhh yes I think mine are well developed too, or at least quite high, making my neck very short. But I also have extra weight so it’s kind of hard to tell. It at least makes sense. But I don’t think every woman with trap muscles looks bad in off the shoulder tops! I think it can be a pretty sexy look if you’re not too overweight? I say that because the extra fat on my shoulders makes off shoulder not as flattering, even though I actually love my wide shoulders
Britany Spears is considered to be a beauty icon and she has a thicker neck. It's funny how we sometimes focus on areas that a different from the current trend/standard. Really though I think uniqueness is a good thing.
That's why we never see Jennifer Aniston in a super short or pixie cut! A rare occasion when she was channeling Barbra Streisand in a Harper's Bazaar issue, another one is her curly stacked bob in Squirrels to the Nuts movie, but those probably were wigs. Jennifer's maxilla is more forward grown and Barbra's chin receding, it's interesting to see how jaw and neck revealing updo's and pixie cut's work for these face types. Thanks a lot for yet another great video
Ohh I had not seen the Harper's Bazaar issue and just looked it up!! Yeah with the side profiles you can definitely see the difference in bone structure between Jen and Barbra, but I love the photos of Jen as Barbra - stunning! What most people don't realize is that revealing a feature (like your jaw) is actually one of the most effective ways to make it less prominent. It's something I learned from Asian beauty standards but I'm glad that in North America a strong jawline is viewed as an asset. So glad you found the video informative!
Your content is amazing !!!🤩🤩🤩 The little details I've always noticed about the facial features, traps etc. but I never could put them into words! Your channel is like finally getting my thoughts and feelings translated into a well organized proof that I'm not crazy and there's a method to my madness 👏👏👏 🤣 Thank you for your work ❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍
It's also about the shape of the head eg I have a flat, square head (which I hate!) and a low bun looks absolutely horrific on me. I can manage a high/medium bun, but I need to position it in a way that doesn't empathise the shape. Could you do a video on that?
I know I look a million times better with my hair down, so I nearly always wear it down in public, and so IMO do most people, only very very few look *better* with their hair up (and that's usually if the hair is in a very bad state etc.), so I'd say wearing hair down would be the go-to option for most ;)
I recently found your channel and I love the depth of the information you provide. Your channel along with dear peachie have both really helped me to understand and appreciate my features.
Hi! This is a great suggestion and I will definitely try to incorporate it in my future videos! I am in the middle of setting up a website to provide personal consultation services in the near future, so please stay tuned for an update :)
Hi! You have great videos! It would be great to hear your views and tips regarding faces side profiles. Im often in situation when my hair (up or down) looks ok from the front but not good in side profile! Sometimes from the side nose may look too big if hair is up or jaw doesnt look defined and makes the side profile look droopy. Would love to hear your views! 😊
I have a diamond shape face, rather broad though with a little cheeks and delicate/small features...l wonder why I look nice having my hair up, actually better than with hair down, but when I had my hair cut to a long pixie style the result was not particularly successful😮
Pixies are tricky because they can easily highlight more "masculine" features within the face. It could also be that you don't need the added volume created by the short hair length. It could be for a number of reasons really!
The difference is that a pixie cut adds a lot more volume to the hair, and also the vibe of the styles are completely different!! But if we’re only speaking in proportional terms your assumption would be correct ☺️
You haven't mentioned the nose porminence difference between the two. I think the nose shape and size impact how we percieve people. With her hair down, Jennifer's nose looks less prominent, and her blue eyes become the focal point. Compared to her, Gwyneth's nose is less prominent, regardless of the hairdo, so there's no distraction.
I'm the same! With photos everything is 2-dimensional so it can be quite different from what you see in person. For me it's my cheekbones that protrude more to the sides, so in the mirror I can't really tell as much but in photos I've always felt like my face looks way wider!
I feel extremely uncomfortable because I hardly have shoulders, I don’t have traps as well as clavicle bones. I never can find anything that looks good on me.
Opposite to Jennifer Aniston's style, exposing your shoulders can actually make the shoulders appear wider because there is no visual break in your shoulder line that's created by your hair when your hair is down. Tube tops or thin straps are also more effective at making your shoulders appear broader - I'm the opposite and have swimmer's shoulders so what doesn't work for me would definitely work for you lol!
I recently discovered your channel, your videos are super interesting. I just wished you woul use less of those 'sparkling' sounds😅 maybe it's just me but I find them irritating and very noticable
Thank you so much! I have been getting similar feedback and have toned down the sound effects significantly with my more recent vids :) I'm trying to see if there's a way to replace the audio on the existing older vids as well!
It would be great to see women with wavy and curly hair, too 😊
Noted! ❤️
I remember watching friends and thinking Rachel looked so cute when her hair was up! I think the "flattening" effect of photography vs. video/ real life is relevant here.
Fair point! It could also be that the jawline appeared less prominent with the hair up because the contrast created by the hair was removed :)
I really appreciate the way you make sure to emphasize there are no good or bad features
Thank you!! I’m glad to hear that. We gotta love and embrace what we have! We’re all beautiful in our own ways 🥰
