  • We were on the Côte d'Azur with a nice little company, all good friends, as you can see in the pictures below. So the four of us decided to go on an adventure for a week to rest our bodies, minds and eyes. It's quite unusual for an Estonian to vacation in popular resorts during high season, because from May to the end of August, prices are high and crowds are everywhere. But that's exactly what we did anyway, we went to a vacation home in France right at the beginning of August. And we really enjoyed this high season. Prices were like everywhere else, we got pretty good airfares and very polite accommodations where breakfast, coffee and sometimes even dinner was nicely served to us. Eating out is indeed crisper, but it is polite everywhere in Europe, no surprises.
Of course, the first thing that put a smile on my face was the warmth that shook through my body as soon as we stepped off the plane. Temperatures were 30-33 degrees during the day and did not get any colder at night, so it stayed around 27-29 degrees. The people of the Mediterranean themselves have adapted to their climate, and for them three months of heat is quite bearable, because the rest of the year the climate is pleasantly mild.
During our week-long vacation, we wanted to see as much as possible and as quietly as possible. I think we accomplished most of our plans the way we wanted to. The Lonely Planet book also helped us to find our way around the places.
    Nice
For me, Nice was such a nice compact city with a nice little old town. Did not blow me away in any way because Europe is full of similar things. What surprised me from the bottom of my heart was the beach. I have been to a beach a few times where instead of sand there are rocks, especially black round rocks or volcanic black rocks. For example, the Black Sea has black round rocks, and many islands (Mediterranean islands, Bali, the Canary Islands, etc.) again have black volcanic rocks and sand. Nice and other beaches on the Côte d'Azur have white rocks, which are quite unpleasant to walk on. Therefore, the finer sand beach was brought to Monaco to make it more pleasant to walk on. When we got used to it, the stone looked even more esthetic. It did not stick everywhere like sand.
    Monaco
I had preconceptions and expectations about Monaco. I heard so much about it being a particularly proud, insanely beautiful city where only Ferraris fly and the bay is full of helicopter super chases. We basically drove through Monaco and it was really beautiful, but just as beautiful as many other Mediterranean resorts.
Even if my preconceptions were a bit exaggerated by other stories, it's actually exciting to muck around here. Of course, Monte Carlo's casino left a prestigious impression, the beautiful snow-white Hotel de Paris next to it, a nice promenade, the Japanese garden, the old town up on the hill with a nice view, and a nice park. We were also in Monaco at a time when there were fireworks in the evening on certain days.
It was especially nice to have such beautiful walking paths right on the coast between the cliff and the sea. And he met them in several places. For example, we walked from a small village on the coast of Cap Mala (where, among other things, there was a very nice private beach where we spent the day) directly along the beach for about 6-7 km to Monaco. The same path also led over the beautiful peninsula of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, where we did a lap.
    Côte d'Azur and Provence
While the French resort itself refers to this coastal region as Côte d'Azur or French Riviera, the entire province is called Provence, which in turn is divided into even smaller municipalities. According to the book, there are quite a few other attractions in the area besides the coast. For example, there is an ancient Roman aqueduct, which is one of the largest and unique because it is triple. There is also the European Grand Canyon, the largest canyon in Europe, which is about 28 km long. These places were too far from us, but we found in our guidebook two routes that allowed us to visit the main attractions in a pleasant way.
The book took us through such famous places as St-Paul de Vence, a mountain village with a particularly ancient and interesting history. And many of these mountain villages or towns are built on the slopes and surrounded by a thick defensive wall. In the past, towns all over the world were built to protect their inhabitants. The Gorges du Loup is the beginning of this long gorge. We have seen the beginning of it. There are countless interesting caves, waterfalls and waterfalls in the area. Grasse itself was a fairly ordinary town with its own charm, but it was famous precisely because it was the birthplace of perfume. All perfume lovers will know this city from their sleep.
We also managed to pass through Cannes, where we also wanted to go. This time we took a walk through Cannes in the evening and had a few drinks.

Hey. It's Plage de Mala, just on the left side of Cap Mala. What is cool about this place, it's small and isolated with nice restaurant and small pedestrian path goes right by the sea to Monaco. It's about 1 hour walk with beautiful sights. Or you can easily take the train if you don't have a car.

Hi Michelle. You might be right. Maybe it's too "miami vice" : ) and choosing background music is always kinda tricky.
Which music or song would you recommend for this video?

I am afraid my knowledge on music styles for a video such as yours could be described as minimal. Personally, I would try various styles until I find the best fitting one. I have found this link: www.smartsound.com/royalty-free-music/library/Scoring+Essentials/Mediterranean+Cafe/.

Sorry, it's me again. Just thinking, why not look for some French modern music or singers?
