"Inis Mona is the name of an isle. Modern science assumes that the ancient Inis Mona is today's Isle of Anglesey (in welsh still names Ynys Môn), in the north of Wales. On Inis Monda the most relevant druid college of the Celtic world was established. Celtic trives from all over Europe sent their youth to that isle, so that they could enjoy the highest druidic education - which could take 20 years, by the way! - before they returned to their home countries and tribes to serve there as druids. Being a druid was one of the most important, honourable, responsible, esteemed, and maybe also most difficult professions in the Celtic culture, being actually much more than just a profession, rather to be described as a lifestyle, a vocation, a destiny. However, our song deals with an old and reputable gaulish druid in the eve of his life, looking back and pondering over his life and days long gone. Most of his life was spent in service as a wise counsellor, lawyer, scientist, teacher, doctor, physician - in other words: As druid at his clan's chieftan's court. Being content with that, he secretly still thinks back and moons over the years of his youth, which he spent on Inis Mona during his education. Years that have formed his life forever..."
And home to probably the largest human sacrifice that took place in the British Isles... A Roman invasion force was met on it's beach by something like 4000 druids, warriors, women and children standing on something flammable. They were cut down by the Romans but according to the Roman historian Dio one of the druids threw a torch at the flammable material burning everyone standing on it... The superstitious Romans were scared shitless... Apparently after this little incident Boudica's revolt began...

Eluveitie proves that you can combine folk instruments found in a Renaissance festival with downtuned guitars and heavy bass/drum lines and make amazing music out of it.

+Ethan Goepper Yeah, I move onto melodic death and folk metal in the winter, too. Normally I listen to power metal and melodic death. I guess it has something to do with being confined in the Canadian winters, and the short days with most of the time spent in school. A release of aggression is nice at that time.

its funny that come back here 11 years alter to hear this. I was up late when this video uploaded i had just discovered their first album and i have loved these guys ever since they really peaked my interest into folk style metal.
It was approximatly end of 2009, 10 years ago... Inis Mona was my first Metal Song and Eluveitie was my first metal band. I'm very excited, because they will be in Krakow 3 days later. I'm listening to their all album like I did the same many years ago. Those times this song was only 9 million, today it's around 30 millions. It doesn't matter, how much Eluveitie changes their band members ( greetings to ex members Annaa, Rafi, Meri, Pade, Sime ), Eluveitie's spirit will be the same! They will always be pioneer for Folk Metal! Greetings from Turkey!

It's sad to hear that Anna Ivo and Merlin will leave , i'm sorry to hear that , i almost cried when heard the news , i wish them all the best and so to the remaining band I LOVE YOU GUYS
We got a much better Eluveitie and a whole different band out of it so it was for the best. I definitely don't like Cellar Darling as well as Eluveitie but they aren't bad. And hey, if Ivo and Qna can put up with Merlin's drinking more power to them.
i've started listening eluveitie by a co incident with this song...now Eluveitie is my most favourite folk metal band
I found this band like a decade and a half ago when I was around 13. Man have they helped me throughout the years. Some good music.
Celts, proud to be one... listening to music like this captures the spirit of our culture.. hard, raw, mean and mercyless, get in our way and we will fuckin destroy you... the world needs more of this ...raw agressive. non neollib no PC no Horseshit...
Swiss Folk Metal Band "Eluveiti" - Song - "Inis Mona". This is the tune of the old Breton song "Tri Martolod" also covered by Alan Stivell, Manau (Tribu de Dana), Nolwenn Leroy and others
exactly ;) ye'ch mat !
9 years have passed, but still my favourite song in the genre. metal lives on!
It's perfect
Most beautiful song
1:31 that instrument is so badass, damn
The pre chorus at 0:47 is just heavenly
15 years ago this song was my intro to folk metal....... and till today it feels like yesterday....
Holy balls, I don’t remember when I originally heard this but instantly remember it. Been a long time, I think it was on those cds you would buy with a bunch of different bands.
Amazing song, amazing band, awesome concept expertly executed! And you've got to love the angry piping
The song is awesome the singing, and the bagpipes and especially the flute solo towards the end
Listening this one after 13 years when I first heard it. Keeps the morale high 🙏🌎
Inis Mona is absolutely the peak of ELUVEITIE'S brilliance. Wonderful!
13 years Listening to this Masterpiece, And It still gives me chills
same! it was even my phone ringtone
You people don't realize, I mean most of you don't realize how powerful and good this song it. To actually have a song that heavy with 80% of lyrics being a growl, in 21st century and STILL hit 23 million views. This is power, like this is THE SHIT. Drink it in maaaaaan.
its funny that come back here 11 years alter to hear this. I was up late when this video uploaded i had just discovered their first album and i have loved these guys ever since they really peaked my interest into folk style metal.
Go and see them signing this song live! Unmissable and unforgettable! Gooo! Inis Monaaa!
A rare footage of Chrigel Glanzmann without a beanie
+Lena Olejnik I didn't recognise him.
+Phil Jones (フィル) If it wasn't for the vocals...

0:57 one of the most badass moments in metal history
First time I heard it I was 17. Now I'm 29 and nothing has changed.
I don't think a more literate song has ever written. Metalhead and proud ;)
