  • I think this is another small breakthrough as it relates to learning that balance point. Now at least I have an idea on how to save it if the front wheel gets too high.

Nice job! That is so much harder than it looks and I know exactly what you mean with regards to small victories. I'm just getting my static balance to something that can be a bit more proud of that alone has been challenging and feels like one of those small victories much less trying to hop around while I do without losing my balance LOL I love the idea of resting your front tire up on the ramp that seems like a great way to practice.... Like training wheels? Ha. Great job!

      Thanks Rodney 😀.
I've got a video on static balence that may be helpful as well. Some ideas/challenges in there. 😉

I’m just a beginner but I already appreciate the “small goals” in my static balance drills. “Chunking” is a proven way of making steps towards a big goal. Amazing perseverance and evidence of improvement here and on many of your other videos. You’re going to nail it soon enough. I hope you still communicate with us mere mortals when you do.

Bwahahahahahaha 🤣🤣 I'm mortal too and always will be. Yeah the channel is still focused around basics, but this was a fun challenge with my friend Shawn. Aiming for 5 hops. Thanks for your comments and good insight on the learning process

Yes, you have it !As I suggested you in your last video, to be over the balance point on the second point was the key. Now it’s only a matter of time and training, but you got the move.

Thanks off the hook. 😉 Yes this is been a fun and hard series to make documenting the progress. So hard and not very practical, but hey. It's fun and gotta have fun right? How's yours coming along?

    Casual observation.
Watching the pro riders, they seem to have their hips way back allowing the front wheel to be kept lower. This would then see the rear suspension rebound the rear of the bike in a more upwards rather than backwards direction. I could be way off though lol.

That's actually a really good call out. Thanks. 👊 What happens so often is I'm not comfortable sitting back there and I pull in on bars and start to stand and straighten up. Keep it coming 😉

Suspension is important to have at least “neutral” and as a new trials rider finding “what is neutral” or how to “baseline” a trials bike is hard. I’ve recently bought a 2015 Scorpa and will be really interested in that content. You are 100% correct that suspension doesn’t replace skill, but as you just figured out with your adjustments, it can have an affect. Correlation to an ADV bike: friend has a KTM with fully adjustable suspension. The KTM owner’s manual gives you baseline “clicker settings”. (e.g. free sag is 10%, sitting sag is 30% of total
Travel). The bike was used and nothing was even close. Just getting the bike adjusted to “neutral” made a huge difference. That is what I’d like to figure out on a trials bike..
What is the baseline/neutral starting point we should shoot for?

Got you covered Dan. 👊 Suspension series coming to help you get it all dialed. My buddy's got about 5 videos coming on this topic to the members. Yes, baseline settings are very important. I'll link the Sherco sag info which is in the manual. Check the 1st manual download and there's Multiple languages as well. Sag settings are in there and factory clickers etc.

Looking good Tom, nice progress. Looking at the pro rider, he seems to put less effort into hopping with his legs, is this because of the timing of his technique? I’ve only tried these a couple times but all I could get was the initial hop and occasionally a second one. I think I need to practice more. 😁

You are right. His hips don't seem to rise. More of a quick de-weight to adjust for balence than an actual jump. His clutch work and timing are better. I'm trying to make up for that with massive effort. Lol. Good call out

Thanks. Same camera, but most of all the other videos in this series and from this angle are at dusk. Also, I remember I increased the frame rate for better slow mo. So lighting and FPS are better on this. Parts in my garage I used background blur setting 🤷
      Good catch 😉

Wondering what PSI you have in the rear tire for this. (might have missed a past video where you indicate this maybe?)

    • @TrialsProgression
      @TrialsProgression  2 года назад +1

I was running 4, but it's closer to 4.25 or 4.5 psi now
      Any recommendations?

@@TrialsProgression No real recommendations, I haven't really pushed to learn rear hops (wanting to more watching your videos however) but as I have found with splats and zaps if the rear is a bit soft its a touch harder to get good lift I was going to suggest going up in increments between .25 and .5 in the rear but no higher than about 4.5-5 and see what it does, but your pretty much already there. I found I really like around 3.5-3.7 in the mud, 4 in most conditions and 4.5 if I have to do big hits (zap and splats for me). Good luck and really enjoying your videos. (my preferred tires are Michelin for reference)
