An excellent comparison in difficult lighting conditions. Have just bought an Action4, and can see in your film that it is already producing a more natural and clear image in flat or standard modes, particularly of the background sky and you jacket. There is probably less “in camera” processing in the Action4. I generally shoot with -0.3 EV on my main video camera or even on Iphone. The Action 4 has EV settings which is a plus point to me.

Happy to see your channel grow, as I find myself agreeing with you a lot. I also own one Action 4 and it perfectly suits my vlogging needs with a little bit of action. I think it has the most natural look out of the box, and there’s a built-in HDR as the specs sheet says. It is always nice to have an option to turn it on/off, but at least they have it.

Wow I am sitting here editing my 45 min video obsessing over the Action 4 vs Ace Pro. We have the same thoughts. The Ace Pro can do some cool things however the image from the Action 4 is better to my eye. Action 4 wins. I have the Pocket 3 for everything else...

Hi Espen, For the next hiking and cycling season I will order the Action 4 next week. It has a 100 euro discount at the moment, so it is a good moment to change cameras. It has been very difficult checking all the reviews and comparison videos and making a decision based on that. The Action 4 seems to be the best option. People often forget but the onboard microphone is also quite good. Hopefully the DJI Mic 2 will be sold separately later so there is no need for an adapter to get better sound. Espen - great review to start 2024. All your points are valid - and it's relevant to wonder whether reviews that benefit from free gear are entirely reliable. I don't use Action Cameras very much at all, but I think the Action 4 might well be in my future.

Thanks for your great video, I've been thinking about buying the Ace Pro for a while But I think the Action 4 is better and I'm happy with it The reasons of the day: I think that the Osmo offers more advantages Alein D Log 10 bit is great, you are not as limited as 8 bit I have 2 spare lenses, if there is a scratch or break just swap them I don't really like the colors of the Ace during the day in the dark I can see that the Ace is clearer than the Action 4 and it stabilizes better in the dark But I also don't like the colors of the ace in the dark But ! I use the Pocket 3 which is much better than the Ace And most people use an action cam every day What I love about the Action 4 is that it's a bit simpler, easy to use, and has a tall, sturdy look I think the Ace is better for vlogging I'm looking forward to action 5

Both are excellent cameras and should be purchased according to each individual usage. The one thing that's good about the DJI is that larger sensor is always in play where the Ace Pro you have to activate the PureVideo to achieve that low light feature but once you do, imo, it beats the DJI especially when it gets darker, the DJI just doesn't have the power to back up the stabilization nor will it denoise with the AI cpu the Ace Pro does. In your video, there's lots of parts where one will be better then the other but at night, there's not contest there and that's where the Ace Pro shines. I agree with the GoPro comment lol funny, I'm in the Insta360 Ace FB group and someone made a comment that made me laugh. They were obviously GoPro fanboys and he said that the GoPro is a better camera because he doesn't like the "AI generated" image from the Ace Pro, calls it garbage. So, in another words, he would rather take an unusable footage from his GoPro then a perfectly good usable footage from the Ace Pro, this is the kind of people we are dealing with lol
Hi 😀I totally agree, both are good cameras. But both are action cameras, if you are going to have an action camera for sports or activities. Then I believe that the Dji Action 4 is the camera you should buy. When it comes to poorly lit places, the ace pro delivers very well. But there are not big differences. Insta360 has done a good job with its first proper action camera. But I think they should do some updates. The colors are not impressive, the focus is not optimal. Sometimes it looks good, sometimes it misses the mark. GoPro is nowhere near any of these. But if I were to choose a camera, it would be the Dji Action 4. Thanks for watching😀
Come on, are you using 4K30? Because 4K30 the ace pro is activate HDR which make the color more darker and bad for face color. You should use 4K60 if you want to vlog your face more bright.
@@EspenJohan That is the problem with ace pro, you can't turn off HDR at 4K30. When HDR turns on, your face will be dark and the sky will be full of colors.

Hei Jørgen, takk for at du liker videoen 😀. Prøver mitt beste på å lage videoer som hjelper. Vel det med innstillinger er ikke det enkleste, jeg filmer i 4K 30. Jeg pleier stort sett og filme i auto mode. Eneste jeg leker litt med er EV, det med jitter er aldri helt enkelt å unngå på action camera. Slik jeg har skjønt det så er grunnen at shutter speed som gir jitter. Unngå dårlig lysforhold, det er der action kamera sliter. Ace pro har dessverre dårlig eller manglende korrekte farger. Der er DJI kamera mye bedre. Du kan jo prøve flat profile, men den er ikke imponerende på ace pro heller. Dette hjalp sikkert ikke noe særlig, eneste er å prøve ulike profiler. The "out of focus" issue you raise: You did not read the manual. The closest focusing distance is about 1.5 feet. So, yes, your face is out of focus because you were too close to the camera. This is a limitation, but you failed to understand why. Others have shown that you can add a diopter to get sharp focus at short distances. A +2 diopter, will give sharp focus on the camera from 10 inches to two feet. Then, your face at that distance would have been in sharp focus. So, the camera is not ideal for vlogging if that entails, having most of the frame consisting of a face (with the diopter). The limited range is due to the larger sensor, the wide aperture, the not-so-wide lens, and the choice by insta360 to make sure that everything from infinity to the closest focus distance would be in focus. Other cameras give you close focus but the background is in fact a bit blurry. Other cameras give you the ability to change focus depending on distance, which is a hassle and not always reliable in auto mode (Pocket 3). The GoPro Hero's small sensor gives a greater in-focus area, at the expense of all the shortcomings of a small sensor..
Well still the camera has a focus issue, if you keep the camera to close I understand that it's not in focus. I don't say you're wrong with what you say, but saying that I haven't read the manual. Is wrong!. But thanks for the comment👍

The action is a good camera but it shoots much too wide for my needs. even in the non-warrp setting, when considering focus, the action 4 shoots so wide that focus issues are not easily apparent. Yet, I find the footage from the action 4 much too deformed for my needs, as I prefer a more normal field of view,. The ace pro hits the spot. The ace pro is a better camera overall and has more natural colors,

DJI Action 4, Go Pro Hero 12 and Insta 360 Ace Pro have their own problems. After all Insta 360 Ace Pro is much better than both of them with money you pay for it. But only DJI pocket 3 is slightly better in low light than Ace Pro, but Just in lowlight. Whether we can't accept the fact that Insta 360 Ace Pro is real genius one. They brought advanced technology. DJI Pocket 3 was good release but they have their own issue too. Pocket 3 cropped FOV, Front face blur, no waterproof is main reason people are backing off from buying it. Wide angle lens still doesn't make much difference. Final Conclusion: you can choose the camera that depends how you gonna use it, no camera is perfect, lol.
I agree, no camera is perfect. But if I'm not wrong DJI action 4 is cheaper than ace pro. Ace pro is not a bad camera at all, but they need to do some updates to it. You can clearly see it's out of focus sometimes. All my cameras are bought with my own money, that's why it's easier for me to say my own opinion. Dji pocket 3 is a great vlogging camera, and yes the blurry background isn't always what you want. As you say, all cameras have their own strengths and weaknesses
let's see what the coming firmware update from INSTA360 will bring. Overall, I think it is the best camera around: very versatile and rugged. the minimum focus distance is not a manufacturer's defect, it's just due to the size of the sensor and aperture of the lens (even my full frame Leica M and SL lenses have a minimum focus distance which I have to take into account to exploit their full potential. It's not a defect but a feature characterising any lens in the world). I had the Pocket 3 for 1 month but at the end I sent it back for the following reasons: it is too fragile, it lacks any weather sealing, the zoom and photo functions are totally unusable @@EspenJohan
