By studying chess tactics with spaced repetition i managed to increase my chess rating drastically. Studying openings and reading chess books is a waste of time in my opinion. You also do not really get better at chess just by playing games. The key to chess improvement is getting better at pattern recognition.
Want to improve? Sort out your thinking process (especially to eliminate blunders) Work on your pattern recognition (which will further improve your intuition and thought process) Train your visualization a bit. Force yourself to look ahead. Learn chess principles but don't be afraid to disagree with them.
Seems that way. Look up accounts with 1800 rapid and it says 99% percentile top right e.g. www.chess.com/stats/live/rapid/mr13131. Mine is not populating because I have not played rapid online recently.
Great to have you back LS. Thanks for the encouragement to play more blitz.

Not a 'waste of time' to do other things, but definitely some things are more useful than others.
Great to see a video from you again. Excellent insights you bring forward and inspiring.
2.3k hours to reach 1800 is insane, wth is your learning pace
Insane as in too slow or too fast?
