I have an issue with ola and uber. If I cancel a ride for some reason, they often charge me with a penalty fee , which is understandable and I also support that too. But on the contrary, when the driver cancels a ride ... shouldn't the passenger charge ola/uber for wasting time . I have also faced this ride cancelation issue . It's very annoying and frustrating.

    • @thunderb00m
      @thunderb00m 2 года назад +11

Hmm so i guess you need to read their terms of service. They will try to find a ride for you but they haven't provided a ride guarantee. If they did then they will probably add the ride guarantee as an add on or maybe it would get included in the fee and you would be charged for it every ride and when they do cancel you would get compensated for your time. They will probably do a lot of analysis on the cancellation rate and decide the cost per ride they'd need to charge for the ride guarantee to make sense. Kinda like insurance premiums.
Similar to Zomato's or Domino's timely delivery guarantee. It may not explicitly put in the cost of goods but they do included it.
It doesn't work the other way though, since you are the customer you are in control and if you cancel you will have to pay the fee.
      Make sense?

@@thunderb00m I was waiting for Ola for 30 mins or so. He never came, he kept circling around nearby sector. I kept calling, he didn’t pick up. Finally he answered that if you want to book other cab, cancel the ride and do that, I said I won’t. He said he is unable to find the road and took more instructions only to go away and away from destination. I finally cancelled the ride, paid extra money to Ola, booked an Uber, since then , I have never booked Ola. Their customer service should take cognisance of such behaviour, but they really didn’t care, it was festival time and the business was booming

Ola/Uber commission of 35% in India is among the highest in the world. Most cities charge 25%. They are being too greedy. Secondly, fuel price hike have taken a hit on these drivers. There should be some mechanism to give commercial registered cars that are at less cost. Finally, Uber should give a 2% bonus to drivers whose cancellation percent is below 10%.

Mohak You did an enormous research!!! but two of the main reason why drivers cancel the rides is because
i)They fear of not receiving a return booking from the destination, due to which the drivers have to run dead kilometers and reach demand areas.
ii)During Evenings and Nights they cancel the rides because the rider destinations are far away from their homes and the drivers try to reach closer to their home and they try to make some money on their way back home as well.

One of the biggest issues with ola uber business model was and is that driver parter earnings came from vc funding.
I had a car attached with ola/uber till 2018. I knew as VC funding dries up incentives will decrease. So I sold the car and left the business at right time. Most of the drivers partners thought that ola uber was a dream come true in 2013-14. They never realised what they were getting into. Now they are suffering and I don't think there is a solution apart from increasing fares to make every ride profitable and non cancellable.

We are still working on it but there are no results coming…..will update this once a resolution comes….

But Ola drives refuses to go on wallet payment, because their own wallet is most of the time in negative. It makes it very frustrating. Sometimes, we have to wait for multiple hours to get a ride only.

    - This video is extremely biased towards drivers. I mean, to even imagine earning 1 lakh per month by driving cabs is ridiculous. I know a person who has two cars doing this and the truth is that drivers can earn a fair amount every month.
    - We try to view everything from the tech salary's perspective. ASHA workers earn 3k per month. No one talks about them! Just because these drivers make a lot of noise and cause commotion like farmers, their voice is heard.
    - Every job you do has downsides. You can't just have good things about something! Uber/Ola is a blessing. I still remember drivers treating riders like shit. And if you want to still experience it, try sitting in an auto. Customers are always treated like shit in India.
    - Now that customers are at the forefront of everything, service providers are not able to digest this. Urbanclap, Ola/Uber, online shopping, Zomato/Swiggy has given a lot of power to customers and absolutely love it!

Like the drivers will call to know where you at and where you wanna go and then just say "cancel kardo" or worse just hang up and cancel the ride without even an explanation let alone a compelling reason. These companies have been in the business for sooo long and yet they cannot figure out how to do business so that both drivers and customers are happy, it's a shame really. And then they are burning piles of cash from the investors every year, what are they even doing??

Earlier I used to get Ola rides easily but now after COVID, I am not able to book a single ride even in Mumbai and the fares are skyrocket. I have again resorted to Local Autowallas for my journeyed even for railway stations or airports. And this situation does not seem to improve in future. This entire GIG economy including Zomato and Ola is collapsing because of serious price surge and middle class people not able to afford these services anymore.

I actually went through this torture back in 2015, I had suffered an ACL tear and had to go for physiotherapy in the morning, I had to finally pay double the meter fare in an auto to go for my physiotherapy, they did not even show empathy towards my handicap and used to cancel the trips after confirming the drop location.
Another experience I had was where the cab driver almost ran over me when I tried to stop the cab by showing my hand, I did not cancel the ride for a long time and waited for him, unfortunately for him he had to drive past me to exit the area, all these incidents were in Bangalore.
It is a business model issue, but it is also a cultural issue, a lot of people went neck deep in debt by buying 2-3 cars and renting it out as Ola Cabs when the incentives were handsome earlier, but as the market became more and more consumer centric, their incentives dried out and they were left with a double whammy of more competition and lesser incentives, the terrible traffic during peak hours made it even more difficult for them as they had to meet their trip daily targets as well.

The uber moto driver called me, asked me where to go,how much money is showing in the app. After hearing all these he told me that he can not takemy ride in this money. He charged me ₹100 more than what is showing on the app. I refused the deal, and try to book ola moto and rapido. There also I faced the same incident. The drivers are charging minimum ₹100 more than the app's price. After waiting for 1hour I finally reached my exam center, giving ₹80 extra than the actual ammount. Fun fact, if you try to cancel ride many times or cancelling ride after a certain amount of time uber charge you a cancellation fee. 🙂

From my place to new Delhi railway station the distance is around 17-18 kms and the all charges me 170-180 whereas even the local auto rickshaw asks for 250. I think most people can pay a little more for the convenience, also these apps should charge around 15-20% from drivers instead of giving promotional offers to costumers which is short term and unsustainable.

Most Ola cabs in Chennai airports roam around the same vicinity, take up calls and then cancel rides. Very frustrating. It needs a carrot and stick approach to solve the issue. Let the drivers see the destination, route details, price and mode of payment and then choose to pick up the ride or not. But once choosen, they cannot cancel it or have to pay heavy fine of twice cost of the ride.

Well explained, but until customer is involved formally from service provider into this matter as increased fare or other measures, all of it remains an issue between drivers and app platforms. Not taking a solid stand with the company and taking rides as per their convenience leaving other customer in hanging is wrong on drivers' part as well. Just because one section is not "rich party" here does not give them a free or lenient pass.

A video on which states have accessible public transport, which have alternatives, etc. would help bring this issue to the limelight.

Imagine if doctors cancel your surgery because its not profitable for them or whatever reason. Not all rides are gonna be profitable or loss. It balances it out in the long run. The more people consider OLA or Uber as an reliable, safe and customer friendly service...that many more people will use the service more often. Not all drivers cancel but a majority does.

well you are wrong here... doctors have fixed salary so even if surgery is loss making the hospital pays dr every month the same amount... however the case is not same in OLA UBER as they paid on ride to ride basis and since fuel price, vehicle price, toll price etc vary from time to time... In surgery the equipment's used like Anesthesia , surgical gloves, surgical tools all remain same irrespective of any surgery

Thank you for the video. It was pretty insightful.
I majorly thought it was the third reason for max cancellations, given the pandemic and the commission they had to pay to Ola, Uber. But the first two also gave me insights into this issue.
The business model was never sustainable in the first place. Why blame the drivers for something done by Ola and Uber? They don't have a say in the decision making.
This is an opportunity where both drivers and decision makers are involved in the decsion making process.
