Is North India cheating South India? South Indian states pay more tax but get less in return, despite better GDP, education, and lower population. For every 100 rupees of direct tax Karnataka pays, the state receives 13.9 rupees, while north Indian states get 333 rupees (UP) and 922 rupees (Bihar). The perverse incentive system increases population growth, limiting political power in the Lok Sabha and no say in money bills. The 15th finance commission divides tax revenue by income distance, which unfairly favors North India. South India must demand a direct democracy, like Switzerland, to achieve equal representation.

I am from Tamilnadu and we don't feel bad for contributing tax.. But, we are so disappointed by the way the tax is utilized.. Is that really benefitting those north states?? Not at all.. The corrupted politicians invest them in polarizing people and not letting them get educated, focused on growth.. TN focused on education and social justice, we would be rather so happy if that tax really helps the poor people in those states..

Not completely fair, the Madras presidency, Mysore state and to a lesser degree Hyderabad/Travancore inherited large industries that the center invested into, something that did not happen to the same degree in the North. Just count the number of expansions Chennai and Mumbai ports got compared to Kolkata, Mangalore or even Cochin. The historical ports of KA, KL, GJ, AP and OR completely emptied due to the collapse of Myanmar and Freight equalisation. Even today you see concentrations of the coastal communities towards the three major ports Chennai hosting people from KA, KL and AP; Mumbai from KA, MH and GJ and Kolkata OR, BH, and AS.
If we were independent in the 1910's, People from the Bengal presidency would be complaining about us the same way. South India got surplus budget allocation starting from the recession of 1825 all the way till 1940's when the WW2 famines made parts of Oudh and BP(current state of BH) governance deficit

This is not to mention the the Congress had its own factions due to being a big party. Large voterbases of the right wing congress(O), Janata party and Janata Dal along with prominent political personalities like Bommai, Urs family, SM Krishna, etc steadily moved to the BJP once historical neutrality turned into Tippu praise.

Hi Macha, I am a north Indian and request you to not form notions based on such diluted inferences as this video. They put titles and notions like this just to create a stir and garner more views.
The Union of States = India = Bharat was not created so swiftly as mentioned by the lady within a minute. The British plundered the North more than the South. These states were left to famine and drought and poor. Years of movements, fighting, struggle, and sacrifice got us Independence.
That is the problem of our colonial brainwashing and study of history from a British point of view which only continued after Independence thanks to various factors. So most of our convent-educated people (which includes me) have limited pride in Bhaarat and what unites us - that we are a civilization state as opposed to a Nation-state.
Give us 10 more years, we will be on par with the states in the South. And let's not hate each other and call names.

@@daredevil30000 Cool agree. But the problem is - the logic, which we are defying here, the logic of One nation, we are thinking as two parts of the nation.
Bengal, is largest producer of rice, UP is largest producer of wheat. Uttar Pradesh and Bihar produces the most Administrative officers alternatively. UP again provides the highest number of soldiers to Indian army. India's major electricity production comes from Fossil Fuels that's Majorly Coal, that happens to be majorly in other parts of India than South. And many other things.
So my friend, by that logic we can have this debate as long as live but is it the right idea?
For fact of the matter - I pay considerably high amount of taxes and belong to the unfortunate service class of the country. By the numbers, only 8 cr people contribute direct taxes to government for 140 Cr people. On a personal level this isn't fair. These days, there’s a lot of talk about how South India contributes to taxes used in North India, but Maharashtra's significant role in tax contribution often goes unnoticed. Maharashtra is one of the largest contributors to India's economy, accounting for around 38% of the direct taxes collected in the country. Despite this, its political leaders and Marathi people rarely raise their voices about the issue. It's sad that many cities in Maharashtra are ignored when it comes to development.

@@Sauravme wrong. Southern states grow as much crops as northern states. And historically, they've never needed to import food from northern states just to sustain themselves. North and South have different weather conditions. Based on that, the diet of a South Indian person is different than that of a north Indian person. The kinds of crops that South grows are more than enough for its people to sustain their diet. Also, Southern India also has big chunks of fertile land that are amazing for farming. You saying that South only grows rice and coconuts clearly shows that you know very little about South. Also, the food grains that are being imported are not free. They are being purchased. They create a demand for those crops in the north, which in turn pays for the livelihood of farmers in the north. They are doing us no favour by letting us import crops. The same crops could be imported at similar prices from another country by signing a proper trade agreement. Sorry to say brother, but your argument is senseless.

At the time of India's independence, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, along with Bihar and other states, were considered to be among the relatively less developed regions in the country. However, today, these southern states and Bihar along with other northern states have emerged as the opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of economic success in India. I wonder what factors have caused the differing trajectories of these states and the so-called BIMARU states.
It's disheartening to note that some of the northern states in India are performing worse than countries in sub-Saharan Africa. This underscores the need for political leadership in these states that is committed to promote economic growth and development.
If India is to achieve its goal of becoming a middle-income country, there must be a concerted effort to address the root causes of underdevelopment in these states. Just throwing tax revenue at them and expecting miracles is not going to work unless there is systemic change in how these states and its population function. It’s crazy that the population from these states have to travel thousands of kilometres to southern states to find a simple labourer job to earn less than Rs 500 per day, just shows how bad economic and job opportunities are in their own states. I hope these states stop doing religion, food and language politics and instead start focusing on education, health and economic growth.

But Most of the money goes to pockets of corrupted politicians. People are still getting affected. I am paying Hard earned money to the person who is spending that money lavishly instead of person who needs that money to improve their standards and their life. There's already lots of issues going between 2 sides of India including linguistic issues which needs to be resolved. But This one is much more bigger and has impact on entire country.people need to realise this and come up with resolution that doesn't affect anyone and bring it into practice as soon as possible

As a South Indian, I feel remorse and anger when ever I see this,
    1. I and many of my friends who are from south pay a lot of money as tax in return we get nothing back
    2. All that fund collected goes to centre then to some other state, where that fund is lost in some politician pocket
    3. Very little money is returned to us, as a result more debt is taken from banks to cover our development
    4. North Indians are invading south and taking jobs away from us, mainly blue collar jobs like factory, restaurants, house maintenance and so on as North Indian work for very less money
    5. Because of the point 4 now a days many South Indian (who couldn't) get educated are finding harder to get a job and lead a decent life
    6. SOUTH INDIA had an extreme good culture which is getting destroyed by the north Indians. (not a big issue)

These states are way too large for a state government to administer, let alone develop.

India is NOT made by different states coming together.(clearified by ambedkar ji in constitution)
That means netaji or gandhi ji didn't fought for freedom of Bengal or gujrat but for INDIA
INDIA is not like united states of america.
If you are confused why ambedkar used "india is union of states" in constitution.
    Then u must know:
✓Dr. B. R. Ambedkar while submitting the draft clearly specified the advantages of using the term union over federation.
✓Usage of the term union indicates that the Indian state is not the result of some sort of arrangement among the states and these states have no right or freedom to secede from India.
That means the term UNION is very much different for indian perspective.

No they don't. Most North Indians live in North India and very few North Indians live in South.
You'd love to think all Indians are same and all are equally productive and contributing same to the country but we aren't the same. Average Bihari is not same as average Karnataka resident. One gives away almost 90% of tax money to the country and another takes 9 times more money from center than they contribute. Which one is which, you take a guess.
Migrant workers coming from other states drive wages down and increase cost of living in the states that are very disciplined with their management. Those states don't need that labour because it's not really high skilled non-replacable labour. States can't legally stop this migrants. So they can take advantage of other states while ruining their own state and making whole country miserable. It's a fuked up situation for good performing states. In our system corrupt and mismanaged states get rewarded while better performing states get punished.

Maharashtra gets 7Rs of every 100Rs we earn for the gvt. Yes! I feel robbed. We have to stall many programs bcz we are functioning on much lesser capacity despite of doing well. When UP and Bihar needed money we were told that "we are one country", "all citizen are responsible for each other", we were given tall talks on "unity in diversity", now that all our money has been spent or wasted on massive projects the same people have this "tum apna dekho, hum apna dekhenge" mentality. In fact I never complained about the inconveniences we have faced untill this attitude has surfaced. However I blame Shiv Sena for not negotiating hard for us, look at S.Indian leaders they are constantly fighting for greater returns from the centre, Maharashtra never expressed concern.
The North recieved Lump-sum money to do what they want with it and therefore change and progress never came from within, they never had to get creative and invest in conflict resolution so you see that there is no change in mentality, caste is still king and misogyny is a way of life. The South and Deccan had to work hard, we had to self-reflect and clean our own backyards to get anywhere and be taken seriously.

The main thing is that every state should have the right to create its own laws. We don't need the Indian judiciary; Kerala should be able to create or change laws for Malayalis. All we want is freedom. We despise Hindi, which we consider a useless language, and resent the central government's attempts to impose it on us.
We're not seeking an independent country, but rather a system similar to the European Union, where each state has its own laws and autonomy. Our culture is distinct, and it's unfortunate that every Indian is subject to the same laws. We want Kerala to have its own police force, comprising only Malayalis, and gender-neutral laws.
However, India's judiciary is a significant obstacle. Every state is unique and should be able to create its own laws, just like in the European Union. We also reject Hindi as our second or third language, as it offers no benefits or opportunities outside India.
