My mother has only been diagnosed with vascular dementia 2 weeks ago I have had no support, she is going downhill fast , sitting to one side sleeping most of the time not eating much , I can’t believe this has happened so fast !

Thank you very much for such clear explanation of the differences between a living will, an advance directive and a DNR.
My dad is 86 years old with Alzheimer’s and a history of TIA’s and an ischemic stroke last July.
I believe he is heading into stage 5.
His dementia is escalating very quickly since the damage from the ischemic stroke.
His confusion occurs all through the day now, but is the worst from 4:00-7:00( bedtime).
He has an advance directive but not a DNR.
He doesn’t want his life prolonged by nutrition, hydration or machines.
I , as his oldest daughter, am his caregiver and health proxy on his advance directive document.
We thoroughly discussed everything regarding his death while he was able to tell me exactly what he did and didn’t want done at the end of his life.
I appreciate that he helped me know what his wishes are❤️.

I pray all is well with you. It's been a year since your last video, so like some others here, there is concern for you. Thanks for the great information. I came upon your video when seeking out information on dementia as I have some concerns for myself.

🥰🥰🥰 Thank you for asking. In some of my videos I mention my health. I have a seizure disorder and have weekly seizures. I have for years. Also, I am a heart attack survivor and have had open heart surgery. I’m just not well. I am trying to push myself to make new videos. I have answered many of the basics in these, but I know there is much more to cover. Again, thanks for the prayers! Specifically pray for the ENERGY to be more productive. Thanks Amey. 😘😘😘

This is certainly an important topic! My husband and I already have a Living Trust (with a living will with all of our instructions) and I am in the process of working with his gerontologist getting his DNR activated (since he is now stage 4,) the the distribution of financial power of attorney (MAKE SURE THIS IS A MEDICAID SAVVY LAWYER) and his medical power of attorney (since he has a tendency to call and cancel his appointment for reasons of his own.) .Fortunately I know what my husbands wants (no medication) and to age at home with hospice and comfort care so I plan to do that for him as long as I can. It's been a long journey already, more than 15 years. Fortunately we discussed all of this long before his brain began to break. I have mailed his recent stage 4 diagnosis letter from his gerontologist to ALL of his doctors, dentist, financial advisor, etc.

Thank you both, this was so helpful. Also, what was the name of the paper/book Dr Lamb referred to out of Scotland? It's similar to a story of a life. Thank you.

Physicians cannot override a DNR but the paramedics/EMTs will not follow it. 🚑
