The tip regarding Joker being hard to play for a beginner is legit. I took some time away from Joker and played Palutena to grasp fundamentals better and it really improved my game with Joker.
As a beginner transitioning into intermediate play, Joker is and has been a good pick for me because he helped me learn some fundamentals, especially playing neutral and how to grab more
Yep I didn't notice Joker was carrying me through a lot of situations that normal characters would have more trouble with, hence more approaches having to be learned. I went off of him and played Mario for awhile which transformed my gameplay when I finally picked him back up. It was such a big growth that I still try to play all kinds of diff characters just so I can learn/understand more approaches to the game. Joker has so many tools and your gameplay might not be super efficient and creative enough to use all of them properly unless you have seen the many different perspectives of other characters. Esp as a beginner .
1: spam gun when opponent is away 2: when opponent is close use tilt smashes with the right joystick 3: repeat 1 and 2 until arsene is summoned 4: once you have arsene use up tilt as much as you can (its better if you hold it and let it charge up, the damage will get increased) If you don't kill the opponent with arsene try getting arsene again Anyways thats how I play joker, hope this helps anyone trying to main or master him.
Literally just started playing Joker, these guides have been very helpful as I only got into Smash about a week ago. I probably shouldn't be playing him as a beginner but I'm stubborn so I really appreciate these guides here. Might even join the Discord server to see if I can gain anything more there as I feel it might help me even more in combination with the guides. With that said, thank you again for the guides man.
This guide was fantastic. Covers everything briefly and if you want more detail there’s an individual guide for whatever you need help in. I feel this video and the “dealing with joker” video are the 2 best ‘overall’ guides for joker. Awesome video
I used to think I used neutral air a lot and then reduced how much I used it because I thought I would be too predictable. Now I know when to use it and alternatives too. And the nair really helps with the big opponents and back guarding too.
I remember when I first got Joker a few nights later after his release date in April. It took me WEEKS and WEEKS and WEEKS to get used to him. The first thing I did was go to Training Mode and I practiced many weeks with him there until I got the hang of him. Since then, he's been my brand new main and I've been mastering him quite well and having a lot of fun with him. Heck, I've even dropped my old mains, Dark Pit, Falco and Blue Yoshi for him as soon as he released in April and I saw those cool Ultimate trailers.
falcon videos are coming soon! i just feel like joker is a lot more complex and i get a lot more content off of joker guides, but Falcon guides are in the works! 💪🏽
Do you plan to start doing some more guides with your other characters? I'm worried you're gonna run out of stuff to make about joker. Also I'm not sure if your coaching lessons are over a voice chat or not, but I think that a lot of people might find it insightful to see your lessons in action. It would also serve to give people and idea of what they're getting and you might receive more clients from it. Anyways love the content man keep it up🐐
my lessons arent usually via voice because i feel like typing everything gives the player the ability to just go back and read everything without necesarily having to remember it on their own! but they can def be voice chatted and uploaded if the player wants to of course! and i still got a few Joker guides left but falcon/wolf are prolly going to be my next in depth characters to cover since those are my main and secondary characters! appreciate the feedback and support 🙏🏽
Using a sliding tilt with joker down tilt gives an instant turnaround down tilt with joker. I've found it is really good for momentum mix-ups. To do this: While dashing (not sure if it works in initial dash), hit back on the control stick and immediately hit a c stick tilt option. Using f tilt makes the move slide a bit while throwing out the move, similar to character turnaround slide animation, but using down tilt makes you instantly slide in the opposite direction.
Something funny about DI mixups with Joker, especially with Arsene, is that sometimes f-throw will actually kill at ledge because people will actually DI out cus they think you’re fishing for the Arsene u-air kill ... then they just die to this wimpy f-throw and it’s hilarious
yes! i forgot to say this as well, if they think you will DThrow -> Up Air on DI in, they might just DI away and then just die to an Fthrow! or at least make it harder for them to make it back to stage, good point right there! 👍🏽
This content is too niceee and Fr fr hype! Thanks for helping me level up my joker play. Little details like reacting to tech situations have helped me improve that were missing before. No offense but i dont think joker is one of the most difficult character at all when there is characters like peach ice climbers sheik ken and ryu Great video btw
I agree with cozy. He said he’s hard to master and if you’re new joker isn’t recommended. I take lessons from Izaw and dk bill and they agree too! A lot of ppl pick joker up and don’t have their fundies down and want to be like mkleo. Joker is a movement based character. Good spacing, movement, neutral, advantage state, disadvantage state, free flow combo, edge and ledge stuff, tech, kill confirms, and etc are required to make joker one of the best mains in the game. Since most players don’t have this down with joker you get a lot of jokers running around the stage trying to move fast and be like mkleo but their spacing is horrible, mashing buttons, no combos, and only rely on arsene dash attack, down gun, and maybe back air to kill ppl. Joker may not be quite ice climbers, peach, shulk, Rosa, ken lvl but he’s pretty up there. And with a gigantic cast of characters the percentage makes joker pretty high up there in regards of difficulty to master
all of the chars you mentioned are tough to pick up in general, even for experienced players. joker is really only hard for beginners, which is what i said in the video. experienced players can pick up joker pretty easily in comparison to the ones u mentioned! 👍🏽
I know you specifically said joker isnt a good starter character, but i'll try him out when i get the game for my birthday, along with mario, wish me luck, i guess?
Hey what’s going on, I’ve been watching a lot of your videos lately and love your stuff. I just recently picked up joker a couple weeks ago and like him because he forces me to play quickly, fast fall always and not play lazy. Also it would be helpful if you made a single video (if you haven’t already) of how to actually perform the necessary joker tech like up air drag downs, Fair 1 combos, Tether canceling and other stuff. Also one more question, what’s a good option after you drag someone down with up air from a standard platform. Thanks!
yea I cover them all in-depth each in separate videos but in the future this could be a thing for sure! and im not sure what u mean by standard platform, like getting a Dragdown and they end up on the platform above you? or are you both on the platform?
I played Joker for like 2 months and then I took a break and played greninja for month. now I'm shit at Joker. Does anyone know what I should do to get better at joker again?
its called a B Reverse, you have to hit B and then QUICKLY turn yourself around with the analog stick, by flicking it the opposite direction you’re facing. the timing isnt too tight but if you do it too slow you’ll just get a regular Gun (or B move)
nah dont practice against CPUs, practice against real people who adapt and change their playstyle accordingly. many things like reads and baits dont work against CPUs since they obviously dont have a human brain and actually react to everything you do Frame 1. CPUs should mostly be used to practice combos, punish game, edgeguard game, etc. but dont necesarilly play to beat them since you will develop bad habits that actual human players can punish! while computers wont
you’re probably doing the input at the same time, you have to fastfall (which obviously makes you fall faster) by flicking the analog stick down when reaching the peak of your jump, then u have to quickly reset it and tap A for a fastfall neutral air! 😁
yea it doesnt really matter if its before or after, just as long as they’re separate inputs! what i do is jump, and when at the peak of my jump, i Nair and then fastfall right after! hope this helps 👍🏽
Personally, I think that Joker is easy to play, u can take him and learn "how to play" with him like day 1. But he's hard AF to master. U really need to practice a lot if u want good results with him. I saw that t-bag 11:29 😂 NICE VID AS ALWAYS. 👉 *like*
lol that tbag was actually because i was doing a coaching session and i told the player that he had a habit of doing “x thing” (dont really remember what) and when he did it again i would tbag to let him know hes doing it too much! lol 😅
@@CozyyPR Cheers man! I have one more question. I've played smash for about a year and am in elite smash as a snake main. Would you say this puts me a good spot to pick joker up or should I be looking at an easier character?

i have an El Gato HD 60 S ! :)
Nice
thank u! hope this helped u 🙏🏽
How do I consistently up air drag down with Joker?
hey! check out this video which covers dragdowns more in depth 😁 ruclips.net/video/evhT5P9r5Ts/видео.html
I am currently new and am really liking joker but I struggle with level 9 CPU lol. Should I switch to byleth or pokemon trainer?
nah dont practice against CPUs, practice against real people who adapt and change their playstyle accordingly. many things like reads and baits dont work against CPUs since they obviously dont have a human brain and actually react to everything you do Frame 1. CPUs should mostly be used to practice combos, punish game, edgeguard game, etc. but dont necesarilly play to beat them since you will develop bad habits that actual human players can punish! while computers wont
@@CozyyPR Omg ty
ruclips.net/video/3OHQa5NCU1Y/видео.html this video covers a bit what i just said and how to properly practice! hopefully this helps u 😁
How do you go down so fast with the neutral air? I try and it just turns into a down air.
you’re probably doing the input at the same time, you have to fastfall (which obviously makes you fall faster) by flicking the analog stick down when reaching the peak of your jump, then u have to quickly reset it and tap A for a fastfall neutral air! 😁
@@CozyyPR man that’s pretty hard (for me at least). I’ve gained a lot of respect for professional players.
@@CozyyPR ok I think I get it. Do you need to hit neutral a little before going down? I think that’s how I’m doing it
yea it doesnt really matter if its before or after, just as long as they’re separate inputs! what i do is jump, and when at the peak of my jump, i Nair and then fastfall right after! hope this helps 👍🏽
I've played lots of sword fighters and have played super smash bros for about 60 hours do you think I would be ready for joker?
its all about how YOU feel! if u think ur ready go for it 👌🏽
Personally, I think that Joker is easy to play, u can take him and learn "how to play" with him like day 1. But he's hard AF to master. U really need to practice a lot if u want good results with him.
I saw that t-bag 11:29 😂
NICE VID AS ALWAYS. 👉 *like*
lol that tbag was actually because i was doing a coaching session and i told the player that he had a habit of doing “x thing” (dont really remember what) and when he did it again i would tbag to let him know hes doing it too much! lol 😅
I wanna train with you. I’m in the discord I gotta make an appointment. I would love to learn from you a lot more!
im here whenever ur ready bro! 💪🏽
Are you attack canceling you RAR'ing the back airs out of down throws?
i mostly attack cancel but RAR can work just as well, its a matter of personal preference 👍🏽
@@CozyyPR Cheers man! I have one more question. I've played smash for about a year and am in elite smash as a snake main. Would you say this puts me a good spot to pick joker up or should I be looking at an easier character?
mini cimbo down throw to nair
yessirr thats another good setup! 👍🏽
I knew how to play joker I knew his strength and power I just didn't know something: combos
My smash playstyle is In fact this:
Grab, back throw, Smash and if I am wanna get cocky meteor
In a nutshell I am the Smash to death the enemy guy
I need To learn combos
