      Your response is illogical. How do U determine how good/bad/boring a video is (and this video is VERY boring) unless u watch it?

    • @renodecaro3631
      @renodecaro3631 6 лет назад +11

      First, there is no objectively best exercise, only a best exercise for a particular objective. Squats, as some have claimed here are not the best exercise, ........if you're attempting to build your chest for example. Next, critiquing a video that was intended to be informative as boring misses the point. If you want to be amused or entertained don't watch instructional videos. One weakness of the video was its title and the fact that the correct form of doing the different Kettle swings was not demonstrated.
      Some of the information was just plain wrong. No one can lose 45 pounds of body weight in 12 weeks through exercise. For example, a good marathon runner who can complete the 26 mile course in 3 hours will burn approximately 2600 calories during that time. But, you need to burn 3500 calories to burn one pound of body fat. In other words the marathon runner would need to complete 60 marathons in 12 weeks to lose 45 pounds. An impossibility! I'm afraid the authors of the video fell victim to the marketing gimmick of a book.
      Still, most of the information was very good and the video worth watching.

    Quite simply the kettlebell is a "third way cardio" tool that, like sking, rowing , or Heavy Hands, combines strength and cardio. That's why it is great.

    • @olwill1
      @olwill1 4 месяца назад +1

      Thank you. I'm an old guy (83) who does not (cannot) run anymore and I walk very little, but with the swing, I can get some cardio with no joint pounding. Also, very little risk of falling. If I do fall, at least I have no forward momentum to make things worse.
      And the swing helps maintain muscle mass that walking and running don't.

    I'm in my tenth year of KB Training and have never been injured. I used to mix the KB with running every other workout but my 55yo toes don't like running anymore. With the KB I can still do all exercises and am never bored. YT offers plenty of exercises to keep you busy. I additionally use an Indian Club Bell. I used to also have a Bulgarian Bag. These tools all allow a full body workout and you can kick your butt pretty good in only 20 minutes if you train properly. I can well recommend all three. Ever since I started backaches are history.

    Bought this for my youngest to develop basic form for single hand kettlebell work. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxtaDAl93XF8wxJhssTtjIFjzid82wglva It has a nice grip on it, just a little rough so it isn't slippery. I was doing a few rotator cuff exercises to test and worked well for those movements I'd been doing with a regular dumbbell. Cool thing you can do is hold it in your hand for door-knob turns to work the forearm and grip. Note: it's small, almost all handle, but that's what I expected given the weight. Smallest I've worked with before is 15lbs, so it was kind of funny to see the difference 10lbs makes.

    I agree! KB swing is the most efficient for quick, multi-parameter results. The only draw back is the unfortunate high cost of KBs. And as you advance, you will want heavier ones. Several years ago, I read Tim Ferriss' "4-Hour Body" book. I made a kettlebell, based on his instructions in that book. A few weight plates and plumbing pipe from the hardware store and you have a cheap, ever-adjustable home made KB for swings.
    I read a lot of what Tracy Reifkind has posted online-on various old blogs, and the Amazon review for her book: "The Swing!" She also has many free youtube workouts. …From all her info, you can get an idea of a good way to work out to burn fat. It makes a nice HIIT routine. I might bring my heart rate to 160-170 after working up to 20 swings, then let pulse come back down to maybe 145-150. That all takes about a minute. Then do next set. Tracy's routines are generally "equal work to equal rest" one-minute sets. I go for 15-20 minutes. Find your right weight to challenge you enough to be sweating good but able to swing fairly quickly and 20 swings at a time. ..I don't like to waste time. This is efficient- cardio conditioning, strength training, and fat burning in one.
    Also, learn how to do swing properly. This video does not show a proper swing. You WILL feel it in your lower back, if you don't learn to do it correctly. Your glutes and hamstrings do most of the work on the initial upswing. …Your backside will look amazing! Your back gets a nice athletic, sexy "v" shape, as your traps and lats get toned and your "love handles" fade away. Your butt will never look better. Shoulders start forming.
    I am female. …A few years ago I focused on losing weight. Along with of course eating better, after a few months I looked better than I had in years, with KB swing for 15-20 minutes, ever other day or so. I did burpees for the front of my body, a few days a week (I only did 3 sets of 10). No fuss. Endurance improves also.

    All I know is when I used nothing but kettlebells, I was able to run a 5k in 25 minutes and carry a large air conditioner from the third floor to the basement without stopping (not at the same time). For everyday life, kettlebell is great. For progressive strength training, barbell is king. What's nice about the swing is that you also build endurance with strength.
    The swing also helps in deadlifts and squats making my lift much more controlled and explosive.
    If I had one tool to use, it would be the kettlebell.

    The kettlebell concept actually goes back to ancient Greece. But the Russians certainly did perfect its use.

  • @weirdo1060
    @weirdo1060 7 лет назад +101

    Video is mixing up terminology and might confuse people. The swing and snatch are two different kettlebell exercises. Both provide cardio workout and hip flexibility, but intensity is different. Swing (Russian style) is chest high and equal to jogging. Snatch is overhead and equal to sprinting.

    • @taoist32
      @taoist32 7 лет назад +1

      weirdo1060 There is American style as well. Letting the swing bring the kettlebell over the head at the top of the arch. I have seen competitions where people do each style of American or Russian.

    • @richardboldbrooker6327
      @richardboldbrooker6327 7 лет назад +39

      +taosit40: I think the American swing is dangerous, higher chance of misuse and accident, and doesn't actually bring any new dimension, or specific training technique, to kettlebell training. I think the US just made it up because it didn't like admitting that a Russian training technique was getting Americans in shape. What would Ronald Reagan and the 1980's say!

    • @billhanley1098
      @billhanley1098 7 лет назад +30

      Of course the American swing is dangerous. Look at what happened to that young woman at 11 sec. on the video. That can never happen with the chest-high Russian swing. Even if the kettlebell somehow slips out of your hands, it's never over any part of your body. The American swing is a concussion or a wrenched back just waiting to happen.

I like doing pyramids 1-5 5-1 with a combination of moves such as swing, clean, snatch, push press/strict press, front squat, alternating lunge, floor press renegade row. Agreed. And pushing that any further ..... there are literally three exercises ANY man or woman needs to build muscle and condition. Just three. Kettlebells, squats and pull ups. That's it. Three.

    Big believer in kettlebells. I would add though that even a "seemingly simple" move with a kettlebell, like the swing, is actually more complicated than it looks. I really suggest that if you're just learning that you have someone teach you in person and review your form/technique. There are many great videos on the internet teaching these maneuvers but there are some pretty terrible ones as well.

    Second day of crossfit and a kettlebell swing bulged a disc in my back causing intense sciatic pain. Slow, controlled movements are far better for strength. Do cardio for cardio. You don't have to do only one exercise.

    Kettlebells are still my favorite. My problem is I have a pelvic upslip and sciatica and was told by a sports med therapist to lay off the kettlebells.

    How did 75 swings take take 15 to 20 minutes? I just did 75 with a 50lb KB in 7 minute and I'm 57. I guess I should go for time vs number of swings? I weigh 235lbs at 6 feet tall.

    Looks like a great way to fuck up your back if you are not extremely careful. Start light and work your way up, with proper technique.

    Great exercise. But I believe that one arm dumbbell swing provides a slightly larger range of motion and is safer for your wrists.

    Please don't try to draw heart rhythm / ECG if you don't know what it is supposed to look like. Your rhythm is missing a P wave and a T wave and has what appears to be a pathological Q wave.

    @ Primed: Shouldn't the guy at 2:15 just have started with a lighter Bell? Then he would have gotten his 75 Reps as opposed to having to do sets and work his way up. Or does it have to be such a heavy Bell? You'd think his form was crap (At first)

    0:11 should be: "...It would in most cases be the barbell squat."
    The idea that the kettlebell swing should be chosen above the barbell squat as the #1 movement is ridiculous. All of the people you reference are squatting heavy to get their physiques.
    I am not hating on KB swings as they are a good metabolic movement but the claim made in the first 12 seconds in this vid is absurd.

  • @AGC828

    I agree with the "KB swing"...as it is sued by many...amateur or pro athletes. But the "snatch"?...when the KB swings over the hand...would it not always hit the back of the wrist? :)
    I will later incorporate the KB Swing...need a heavier KB t heavier than 15-lbs. :)

      With the snatch movement you need to punch into the kettle bell when driving overhead, it eliminates the slap on the wrist.

  • @ceylonss
    @ceylonss 3 года назад

    I'd give power snatch as the best movement, kettlebell swing comes along side power clean, thing is most of the commoners cant afford power snatch and cleans.

    I can't for the life of me understand why people do the kb swing. Most of the range of motion is carried out through the momentum of the kb's movement. I never get sore and i never get winded doing it. The best exercises are squats, deadlifts, pullups, ,push-ups, and sprints. Or you could do a full body movement like thrusters, or Turkish get ups. Plus swinging a bell is fucking boring af.
