Awesome video as usual. Kirk, I have a question. I have damaged drywall behind a lazy boy chair. It's from repeated rubbing and rocking etc... I'm sure you've seen this kind of damage. I wanted to know how to go about repairing that. Most people will tell you to remove any debris and dust, then just put compound over it and skim it out. I thought maybe it'd be a better idea to get the exposed drywall wet (the paper is gone) because putting compound over the dry stuff just seems like it won't adhere as well as it could. Maybe even use plaster weld on it? You've answered questions of mine before and I greatly appreciate it!!!!
Hello TehBerbDean, easy peasy lemon squeezy, not sure what this means but me wife says it when I ask her a simple question. You had it correct, plaster weld, then skim with a 20 minute drywall compound. or you can apply two coats of taping mud, with this method you won't need to buy the plaster weld, as taping mud adheres without a bonding agent. Okay I have another question Kirk lol. You sort of confused me by saying "20 minute drywall compound" vs taping mud. I thought drywall compound was taping mud? Or do you mean a plaster compound? Hmm..So many kinds of muds...
Evening TehBerbDean, good question as there are many muds from many different companies that have similar goals. It is confusing to say the least. A twenty minute drywall compound, means use have 20 minutes to mix and apply before its too hard to use, you can apply an inch thick if you wish. You can use this product over wood lath, timber lath or sheetrock. Taping mud can be applied at the most about an 1/8 inch thick than needs a day to dry where you reapply this process often, usually folks sand this taping mud also if they want it real smooth. This is the short answer. Cheers, and have a Fantastic day! Kirk Giordano’s DIY plastering tips

Sound Plastering tips from your favorite stucco geeks
Hi there Kurt what is the difference between wire and den glass, I’m building the down stairs of my house and we decided to do sttuco, it rains a lot here not sure what the best way would be
Howdy Robhert, Dens glass is a water-resistant gypsum based sheathing while wire or stucco netting is fastened to hold the stucco in place.

Can you please tell me what staple gun are using? I’m a lather and I need a new one
Greetings Fernando, it's a Senco PW Gun, there is a link to it in this description. You can click on and buy direct from Amazon.🤔
Amazon is half the cost of what they sell for at the plastering materials yards.
If you need Immediately, I think HD may sell them too.

What size Staples do you use kirk?
Evening John, I use an inch and a quarter as the leg of the staple has to embed in the stud at least seven eighths.
this accounts for the shearwall or plywood.

what is the black paper called that you used before the wire
Morning Joann Pierre, the paper we generally use is called two ply jumbo tex, it comes in 30 or 60 minute grades.
it's a code requirement that two separate layers are needed prior to stucco netting, when stucco is used.,
note these two layer are spot glued together for easier use.
If they are not spot glued they have the habit of separating from each other which is really time consuming and annoying.
Cheers,

What about the insulation before the stucco ?
Evening John,
The insulation would have been installed from the inside, against the exterior plywood, then sheetrock placed over it.

Great video very helpful but I have a question. Are you Jim Carrey’s biological father?
@@andresglez317 I wish, as Jim Carry has so much talent it falls out of his pockets when he walks, this must have inherited from parents who had talent beyond measurement of the average yardstick. 😉
Where can I purchase this type of lath that protrudes out a small amount from the wall? Thanks!
Evening David, this self-furred stucco netting is sold everywhere, you can get it at Home Depot, lowes, or google plastering yards near me.
I prefer the 17 gauge, but 18 gage is better for new guys as the holes are smaller. Thus the stucco adheres better.
Don't buy 20 gauge as this is for tile or chicken coops.

Kirk thanks a million!!! You are awesome and your videos are fantastic.
@@DavidJohn-gv6jy your welcome
I am in Houston Texas and no one has it locally and neither Home Depot nor lowes will ship to a local store even though it is on their websites. Any advice?

Hi Kirk
What happens if you don’t overlap your wire 3 inches
Evening barry, the walls will crack like an egg in three months. 😏
I'm kidding brother, it's okay if you lap 1 inch, it's better if you overlap 2 inches, 3 inches is code, 4 inches is overkill and so on.
To pass a lath inspection it's best to overlap 3, a little more or less won't hurt.
