I typically ride light, just knee pads, a full face and a t-shirt. I pretty much always wear my full face though. They're so light and well ventilated nowadays, and after a few minutes I forget I'm wearing it ... I could deal with a broken collarbone, but not messing with my teeth or jaw.
I have used less or no hydration as a strategy . I have gone a couple hours without a drink on a ride . I do consume a finger of powdered Himalayan salt and pepper before the ride . It stimulates the mouth to reduce dry mouth . I have reached a point a hour ride I have no desire to have a drink . So yes you can train for it and the body will adapt .
When speaking of your camping experience ( 10:35 ) you said, "no water" while showing us this beautiful lake! Subject: water purification for mtb, whether bikepacking or just day trips. Maybe a new sponsor for you? Try it out.
There's actually a study where they got flies and mice buffed using specific proteins, no workout needed. I'm just not sure if they've tried it on humans yet.
On trails and small jumps like that if you push into the Jump instead of pulling you will find Jumping much easier and better. I cant pull up on jumps and feel safe doing it, but pushing into them and preloading the fork and let it do the work, the safety level is far higher.
Hey bro can u plz tell me a little bit more about ur bike I'm living in turkey and I'm trying to get something similar to such awesome bike is it carbon or not what brand also
i think one thing that separates single black trails with double blacks is having mandatory doubles or large drops that arent rollable. im an intermediate rider who feels comfortable on most single black tech downhill trails. would love to ride in oregon someday
Not sure I’d describe Maple Mountain on Vancouver Island as XC ;’) but I’m a bit bias. Always love a solo BKXC epic ride with accompanying epic musings
Everyone seems to think that Lithium batteries are a new thing and that they will get better. Lithium batteries have been commercially available for 30+ yrs. Increasing their energy density is a challenge as it also increases the chance of internal short circuits and thermal runaway. I'm not so optimistic when it comes to more range and less weight.
Helmet for sure, gloves optional but all that gnarly gear distracts me. I’ve had crazy crashes with gear on I felt my mobility was a bit compromised. But that’s me.
Good to see more places allowing eMTBs. eMTBs make it possible for “average fit” riders (most MTBrs) to ride at more places and enjoy the whole ride, not just the downhills.
Ha ha, I was a hockey goalie. (the Aspen Mother Puckers, a women's hockey team) I've had a double knee replacement and wear knee pads all the time. I do feel naked if I ride without them.
I hear you about trail ratings. Absolutely no way that Speed King trail should have a black diamond rating. Every jump was a rollable tabletop and the trail looked wide enough to drive an ATV down.
Brian I heard you mention that when you pull on the jump it keeps your wheel in the air. It sounds like you know this isn't right, but I bet it is also why you are so uncomfortable jumping. When I "pull" to try to do a jump I find that it always gets squirrely. Working on your pump and pop might make jumps feel a lot more stable and comfortable. Keep riding. Have fun
you know they should make an entirely new type of trail that would be the ultimate difficulty called the Platinum Dimond Trail that would really ramp up the difficulty
My concern with ebikes is innovation and how fast the technology is advancing. We have to draw the line somewhere and motors are it for me. Our local trails have seen a huge influx of Sur Ron type bikes with throttles that do 40mph. As ebike technology continues to improve it will be only a matter of time before you have a 50lbs ebike that looks just like a class 1 or 2 ebike but with the capability one of those Sur Rons. Current ebikers who have become accustomed to assistance will justify it like "with this new bike, I don't have to pedal at all." At the most recent Eurobike convention it seemed all innovation was geared towards ebikes and some of these new ones have crazy power outputs and battery life. There is a ton of money to be made and a ton of innovation still available to manufacturers here so I feel its inevitable. Those who argue with me and say they wouldn't want a throttled ebike are the same people who said they didn't want an assisted ebike 5 years ago. I see a future where you have people without ebikes complaining about ebikes, ebikers complaining about throttled ebikes, and every other trail user complaining about all of us lol.
@@MrAffenMaster The reason I see a lot for ebikes in general is, "I have limited time so it helps me get the most out of it" so I'd imagine it would be something similar to that. With higher speeds comes more laps etc.
Man, you really do have a point! Technically they always say "Class 1 Ebikes only", and there are some distinctions there. BUT, that won't stop more and more use of the random throttle bikes until something comes to a head.
It’s always a slippery slope with people and technology. It’ll be wattage creep as the different brands compete for customers, then people will figure out how to modify them aftermarket for even more power and pretty soon they’ll be able to spin the tire on flat ground at which point the trails will be roached and we’ll be banned.
Ego, pride, and arrogance = delusional. Young men are famous for having too much of these 3 things. I know I did. Not all who survive learn either. This area around Klamath Lake is so beautiful at this time of year.
I'm not superstitious in any way except for one, talking about the safety gear I'm not wearing while I'm riding. I have said that exact same argument about ebikes though, totally agree it just makes you an olympic xc climber. It's about the output, which is the same as incredibly strong legs, not even close to the output of something with a throttle.
E-Bikes. Part of the fun of mountain biking is the "can I do it" aspect, especially when it comes to technical climbing. E-bikes take that aspect of the sport away. I mean, if you're going to ride an E-bike why not just go get yourself a CRF450?
I think the whole trial rating system 'Are you an Expert?' and your commentary on the topic is also misleading. In BMX racing you're an Expert after so many # of wins. In MTB trial rating, whats an expert? I think the system should list at the top things like; huck-to-flat 6+ ft, or gap doubles jumps line, or 60% grade with sustained speed in excess of 20MPH... I've won countless BMX races and the UCI would consider me an Expert but on an MTB I'd be borderline advanced inter or new expert. I'd say if you feel like you can handle anything then go for it. If you're a Joey then follow the signage.
Thank you Brian for this episode! Love that trail!
You know, I want to live like you!
I really liked this vlog ❤️
10:31 Holy S**** that is a lot of bugs! 🤣🤣
Damn that looked really good. Nice work by them. Def. worth a hit if i'm ever out that way.
Most definitely! It's a great trail system
Great video! I always wear knee pads and have my legs covered. Here in Ontario, Canada by me there is a lot of Poison Ivey! Knee high some of it.
Very smart!
I haven’t watched your trails in a long time. I hope all is well for you
Thanks Karl!
As a type 2 diabetic, I LOVE LMNT!! Those others cause glucose spike.
Oh wow, that is really cool to hear!
I love flow trails like this and they seems to be in very good condition. Repect to the builders who maintain them.

Nice ride Bro Bryan! keep safe always. Keep it up! your trail biking adventure. Mega shoutout to all Trail bikers in Jeddah, KSA. #coastriders

Gotta get on that GRAYL game lol
They just finished extending that Queen of the Lake Ttail 👍
Nice!! Very cool
Cool trails. 👍🙂
Great stuff again Brian!
Awesome epik trail Beautiful 🤘

I love your love for mtbing
I didn't make it, but my car made the final cut. Nice to see you while riding Queen.
Haha, that's great!
🕷 🐍 and rubble, oh my!
Here a good moto " safety first" 😉
Can you imagine Stuart Smalley for MTB? 😂 22:37

He has a website about his bike specs
Iirc its an Ibis Ripmo..
I usually put a link with my bike info in every video, but I forgot this one! bkxc.bike/ripmo-v2s
amazing video bro
I love every video
Thanks!

All that LMNT and no diarrhea?! How is that possible? 😂
I needed every ounce of it!!

Glad you like our little gem
Love it!!
Disappointed you didn't do BC this year. Those videos were epic.
he's going up there soon
@@danpalance105 I should have specified BC bike race.
I'm retired from XC racing! Haha, that one finished me.

How much longer will you be riding the Ripmo?
love it
Speed King is clearly a _purple_ diamond
Hahaha!

Bring back the Onyx hubs
Agree, you need silent hubs!
Add grease to the i9 hub. It’ll be nearly silent. You just need to replace the grease when it starts getting loud again.
Haha, soon enough!
Love my Onyx!
I like the buzz on my own bike, especially since it alerts other riders ... But on RUclips three onyx hubs are great!

GForm never feels uncomfortable... and I've owned a lot of brands over 25 years of riding.
I yearn for the fully naked ride!
You need to go back to Reno
What's good?
I hear you about trail ratings. Absolutely no way that Speed King trail should have a black diamond rating. Every jump was a rollable tabletop and the trail looked wide enough to drive an ATV down.
The only black section is the first section
It's definitely a moving target!

I have an e-bike throttled at 15.5 mph or 25 kph and it's great. I really don't understand what people would want to do with more than that...

It is time to miss your trails and your talk
wouldn't you want elbow padding for anytime you'd wear knee pads? single track seems to have more elbow hazards than knee knockers?
Never once had anything hit my elbows! Plenty of knee damage, though!
Got hit with a 1.5hr Chinese advert during this video, love you dude but I'm skipping that shit 😂
