For someone living in Europe, the show line german shepherds are just not the thing. People overbreed them, as they are the most accessible to find a breeder in. If you want a good german shepherd who will last more than 10 years, you have yourself better suited getting a working line german shepherd from an experienced breeder.
Id would imagine that would happen over there. It is starting to happen here now as well with everyone thinking they are breeders. Only go to reputable breeders
I am so glad I found this, I wanted a show line, but I did not like the roach back due to health issues earlier on. I am definitely going to look for a west show line now!
Hi ... Thank you for your video. I have a question and it maybe a silly question I'm from the UK and doing alot of research into German Shepherds, with western shoreline I understand they have less drive than the working line but carry the characteristics of working line gsd. My question is that with a western shoreline gsd, will they still have the instinct to protect. You touched on this briefly and I wanted to know more. Where would you also find western shoreline breeders I'm struggling to find some.
Aww dogs have the ability to naturally protect but a Trained protection dog is much different. And it depends on what you want, I prefer working lines and imports over west german. Watch my video on protection dogs and maybe that will help
Hey they sure will have that instinct but for a specific protection dog going a working line that is designed for the job is a better option. Go watch k9Apollo's video
Damn, I can relate to this, lost my best friend only that she didn’t pass away, she was like a sister to me... I really miss her now, I just wanted to let her know that I hope u will be happy 4ever and will stay safe and healthy but I know she won’t see this at all :(
And daily exercise and always make some one on one time for your dog no matter how tired you feel. German Shepherds need to feel they are part of the family and their loyalty and love will be returned to you 10 fold. Adopting my rescued GSD recently was the best, although she thinks she is the boss of my house and me lol. All the best with adopting your German shepherd.

I have 2yo female GSD who might as well be Lucy’s twin, through research and her temperament I found that she is a west German show line as well. Everyone sees these malinois and working GSDs and think they want that however 90% of people can’t handle them and their insane drive. I’m blessed to have a dog who has a super high drive but also has an off button 😭 she is best friends with my 1YO son those two are always cuddling or up to mischief. She’s most definitely NATURALLY protective, if someone we’re to walk behind me, especially at night, she’s doing a complete 180 and walking backwards as I go forward, and is completely friendly even strangers but also verryyy suspicious towards some people. I Love what you said that they’re apart of the family, mine might as well be the biggest lap/velcro dog. Good video Zac. Rosie my female German shepherd varies from Lucy a little but is the same breed of German shepherd. She does not have the the black markings above her eyes like a long eyebrow or black on the inside of her ears, it's all brown like parts of Lucy's head. Lucy also has more black on her back which runs down her side between her front and back legs where Rosie has a band of fawn breaking up the black on the sides of her body. Rosie's rear leg area where they attach to her body are almost identical in colour to Lucy's. All German Shepherds are protective of their human family members. You are right that Lucy gave the scary man a warning who came to your place rather than biting him. Socialization helps here but Lucy would also read your body language to see if this person posed a potential threat to you. If she perceived this she would attack him. German Shepherds are very loyal to their human family and will give their own lives to save yours. Rosie my gsd sleeps on my bed until she gets too hot during the night and sleeps on the carpeted floor but does come back on the bed during the early hours of the morning. If I watch TV she lies next to me on the 3 seater couch giving her lots of Pat's and rubbing her belly and telling her often what a beautiful girl she is. or sometimes she prefers to lay by my feet on the carpeted floor and we spend a lot of time playing together to. She loves playing tug, chasing her tennis ball or dog play where she tries to bite my hands gently as I rub her belly, grab her tail or nose all in gentle play mode with her and she understands it's a game only. She does her own thing too. She loves looking out the living room window and watching the world go by. She does not like the postman lol but this is common for most dog breeds.

such misinformation about showlines. why does everyone always assume that showlines can’t work when there’s been so much proof of it? i’ve seen so many showlines in herding and even sometimes IPO & PSA. a well bred showline will also have a straight back
Own a female black & red show show line, & a Sable colored, male East German straight back, working class GSD. In terms of health, the American/Western German Shepherd (basically the same canine) have been bred to deformity. GSD’s were not created for their hind ends to sit right above the ground while standing. That said, doesn’t matter how respectable the breeder is. All have been over bred, & inherent deformity’s that manifest (American/Western German) in the GSD show line’s joints, & hips. Problems will start to develop early with arthritis setting around 6-7 years (at best), & will eventually deteriorate…Leaving a life span of approx 9 years, & very expensive vet bills needed to achieve their mean life expectancy. The East German/Czech (straight back) working breeds tend to be more expensive at time of purchase. However, their capabilities completely outperform (apples to oranges comparison) those of any show line. They can be more aggressive, have a lot more pain tolerance, fairly easier to train (all GSD puppies require several hours a day of training/work), far more obedient (will not hesitate to take a bullet for its owner) and most importantly, his Vet bills (the real expense of owning a GSD) are a fraction of what my female Show Class Black & Red GSD requires. FYI-Besides subtle color variations there is absolutely no difference between an American, or a Western German show line GSD. Even the AKC does not recognize any difference between the two…..Again, expect for minor color variants (which might give the illusion of a slightly different build) there’s absolutely no difference in size, or temperament between American/West German lines…….Same dogs, but they’ve both been over bred for decades now. Show lines were never meant to be disfigured canines, & that explains why their working line GSD counterparts beat them at everything. If pathetic dog shows, & high vets bills aren’t your thing buy the more muscular East German, or Czech military grade, straight back, work alcoholic GSD, but must put in the necessary time to train it properly….. Will not be disappointed.
NOW , I DONT KNOW WHAT NAME SHOULD I GIVE MY TO BE BORN YET FEMALE GS......PALMA OR. LUCIE ? They ARE REALLY THE BEST DOG IN THE WHOLE WORLD.....I DONT LIKE TO SAY THIS ..but ...I. THINK ITS TRUE AND A FACT ..THAT THERE ARE TIMES GSD ARE BETTER THAN MANY OF US , AS COMPANION IN LIFE.
The weak backends should be bred out of Sheps. It shouldn't be allowed under any circumstance. It's cruel that they have been bred for looks instead of health. Lucy looks pretty great for a showline, alot leaner, sleeker and stronger back end then most showlines over here. I guess you are right that north american showlines are so much worse! Poor things.
Working line and showline German Shepherds are very iconic breeds, both are popular Dogs of all.

Hi am India
Hey from Sydney, Australia
NOW , I DONT KNOW WHAT NAME SHOULD I GIVE MY TO BE BORN YET FEMALE GS......PALMA OR. LUCIE ? They ARE REALLY THE BEST DOG IN THE WHOLE WORLD.....I DONT LIKE TO SAY THIS ..but ...I. THINK ITS TRUE AND A FACT ..THAT THERE ARE TIMES GSD ARE BETTER THAN MANY OF US , AS COMPANION IN LIFE.
lol that is a thick accent
The weak backends should be bred out of Sheps. It shouldn't be allowed under any circumstance. It's cruel that they have been bred for looks instead of health. Lucy looks pretty great for a showline, alot leaner, sleeker and stronger back end then most showlines over here. I guess you are right that north american showlines are so much worse! Poor things.
well bred showlines actually have beautiful structure and are quite healthy!
