In the Philippines if you're a singer, you always have to sing live when you perform. It's a rule. Lip-singing or auto-tune is not allowed, otherwise you will lose your credibility.
Yea, especially when many of the common people in the Philippines can sing... They will criticize you so hard and say that a normal citizen with a karaoke can do much better than you with your auto tune.

Actually, Disney keeps auditioning and choosing Filipino artists to sing their movie theme songs ever since they were stunned and got Lea Salonga to sing not only one but two Disney princesses - Mulan and Aladdin, the only artist to be given that so much respect and recognition, the only Asian and person of color to achieve such feats! I hope you have watched her sing those two songs with Aladdin excerpt shown live during Oscars with Lea playing the lead in the stage production. Janella was chosen by Disney to sing the Moana song years back for their Philippine movie version, Darren Espanto and Morisette were also chosen to sing the latest version of Aladdin for their Philippine showing of the movie. Stell can effortlessly hit that high note in the song. He did it casually in on of SB19's vlogs way back. Makes sense that they gave him the low harmony because he's the only guy in the trio and that makes a better arrangement. But yeah, we were all at the edge of our seats because we though he will take that note too. Haha

I think it's because into the unknown is a girl song, so it's makes sense for him to do the lower. Also, STELL is more vocally flexible and used to harmonizing. Besides, we all know he can hit those high notes smoothly.
I couldn't agree more with "We should watch more SB19!". I suggest you should react to their live performance at the Round Festival 2021. They performed 5 songs there: What?, Tilaluha (a ballad), Mapa (a ballad song dedicated to their parents), Bazinga, and Go Up.

Stell can easily eat up that INTO THE UNKNOWN all by himself effortlessly if it's up to him but they have to give it to the girls because he's the prince. He cannot outshine his princesses. A lot of people are recommending SB19’s Wish Bus USA performance of MAPA, and while it's definitely awesome, I really think you should watch the lyric video first. There's something about the simple (but meaningful) animation and the lyrics onscreen that makes the song more impactful if you're hearing it for the first time and don't understand Tagalog.

It's just that for me, the first time I heard it was a live performance and even though I really enjoyed it and understood the lyrics without subtitles, the song didn't really hit me until I watched the lyric video. But it's cool that their lives of MAPA always make the mood of the song a little different. Like I think the lyric video makes it sort of sweetly melancholy ('please rest now, let me take care of it, you've done too much') but some of the lives like the Ben&Ben one make it more joyful ('look how well you raised me, I can take care of you now, yay!'). Tbh any version of MAPA they watch will be great. 😊

SB19’s ballads are more focused on him and Ken. Try TMPUSUAN’s Hanggang sa Huli and Tilaluha. Or a fancam of Nyebe and Bakit Ba Ikaw from the WYAT Tour. Do appreciate you’ve noticed OPM focuses on vocal talent apart from looks and dance. The bar is set high here and it’s brutal. You must sing live, on key, in harmony and no excuses. P-Pop now has added choreography to the mix but all the members of any of the groups must know how to sing, instrumentals and backing track or not.

Actually this show was the launching of Disney+ in the Philippines and all of these artists were commissioned by Disney to promote the streaming channel. The only original song in the bunch was made by Disney especially for Morissette, Imagine More which she sang at the end. She's the official ambassador for Disney+ PH and there is actually a separate video where she sang Imagine More by herself.
Stell is SB19's heavenly voice for nothing. Not just that, he can dance really well + he is also the main choreographer of the group. 👏 SB19 is a live monster. Hihi, Stell has sung Into the Unknown and its wild highest notes in their vlogs during nondescript moments, while walking through or doing little tasks and not minding the camera. He's really a team player and followed the musical arrangement, even if he can go as effortlessly high like Ms Zephanie. (In our local shows, in the past at least, power singers tend to forget harmony and go on their own trips. lol. so this is refreshing for me.)
If you want to see a total live performance of SB19 while dancing greatly and singing with stable live vocals, you should watch the whole performance of the round festival!!
Here's a breakdown of SB19 members with their vocal roles in the group: Stell - highest range Pablo - high mid range Josh - mid range Justin - low mid range Ken - lowest range Put these vocals together and you'd witness their amazing harmonization. I would like to recommend you check out Stell's performance of "All By Myself". It was astounding. IMO, the best male cover of that song I've heard so far.

I don't think you have really reacted to to many of SB19'S ballads but a good start would be Tilaluha from the TM Pusaun love show. Unfortunately it is sung in Tagalog with no English subs but the vocals of every member are Outstanding! Another performance by Stell is All By Myself. It's a solo he performed during one of their early virtual concerts.

Disney first discovered its first Filipino talent in Lea Salonga, who played Kim in the original Miss Saigon on Broadway. That was when they requested her to sing "a whole new word", followed by the OST of Mulan. It's true that Filipino artists gives importance on the vocals more. It's a No-No to do lipsyncs even on normal variety shows if you are a singer, and if you have to dance then you better do both live, it's just simply the music culture. The crowd loves live performances more and are so used to it i think. And about the accent. English is basically the second language to speak for most and a lot of Filipinos do speak English well. Sb19 has colorful members You have Stell who has crazy high notes. Ken, with the insane deepest voice. Pablo with the raspy voice. Josh the amazing rapper and good pronunciation and diction of words (Hint: he was a call center agent before) and finally Justin who has a unique quality of voice
Janella is primarily an actress actually. A lot of actors do have some modicum of voice training, because here, unless you're completely tone deaf, you'll be asked to sing while doing promotions for your series/movies.
I mean, Stell can reach that high note in Into The Unknown because he has a clip singing that part effortlessly, but of course, balance is needed for the song to be great so he chose to stay in a lower range.

Philippines is like a singing country, almost every filipino can sing or atleast can carry a tune, our favorite past time is karaoke and a lot of households has their own karaoke since its a part of every party or celebration.... you can literally find normal people (non celebrities) that can sing like these celebrities or maybe even better, in the streets, malls and bars. We don't really focus on just vocals, its just that because of the country's singing culture filipinos have high standards when it comes to singing, they are not easily impressed 😅😅.
Good is an understatement, they were amazingly great! Those vocal techniques are up there! And yeah, I had the chance to visit the Philippines and the karaokes were on the streets and dude- everybody sings like they all got some voice lessons! The tour guide told us it’s normal to find those voices around. Had an unforgettable duet of Bohemian Rhapsody with an almost drank man belting it out perfectly. So yeah, I guess it’s a country were people shout in tune! Pft!
Trivia: The singer in pink comes from a family of Filipino singers. Her mom was one of the original cast of Miss Saigon and her dad was a very popular crooner in the Philippines in the 80s plus a myriad of cousins, aunts and uncles who are either singers or actors.

I couldn't agree more with "We should watch more SB19!". I suggest you should react to their live performance at the Round Festival 2021. They performed 5 songs there: What?, Tilaluha (a ballad), Mapa (a ballad song dedicated to their parents), Bazinga, and Go Up.

Every A'tin was also on the edge of their seat for Stell to do the high note but it does make sense for this arrangement for him to do a lower harmony. He can definitely hit that note tho! 😊

A lot of people are recommending SB19’s Wish Bus USA performance of MAPA, and while it's definitely awesome, I really think you should watch the lyric video first. There's something about the simple (but meaningful) animation and the lyrics onscreen that makes the song more impactful if you're hearing it for the first time and don't understand Tagalog.
The Wish Bus USA Mapa has subtitles. Maybe that's okay...

It's just that for me, the first time I heard it was a live performance and even though I really enjoyed it and understood the lyrics without subtitles, the song didn't really hit me until I watched the lyric video. But it's cool that their lives of MAPA always make the mood of the song a little different. Like I think the lyric video makes it sort of sweetly melancholy ('please rest now, let me take care of it, you've done too much') but some of the lives like the Ben&Ben one make it more joyful ('look how well you raised me, I can take care of you now, yay!').
Tbh any version of MAPA they watch will be great. 😊

SB19’s ballads are more focused on him and Ken. Try TMPUSUAN’s Hanggang sa Huli and Tilaluha. Or a fancam of Nyebe and Bakit Ba Ikaw from the WYAT Tour.
Do appreciate you’ve noticed OPM focuses on vocal talent apart from looks and dance. The bar is set high here and it’s brutal. You must sing live, on key, in harmony and no excuses. P-Pop now has added choreography to the mix but all the members of any of the groups must know how to sing, instrumentals and backing track or not.

Actually this show was the launching of Disney+ in the Philippines and all of these artists were commissioned by Disney to promote the streaming channel. The only original song in the bunch was made by Disney especially for Morissette, Imagine More which she sang at the end. She's the official ambassador for Disney+ PH and there is actually a separate video where she sang Imagine More by herself.
This was a perfect mash up. Each singer nailed their songs. Made me watch the movies right after.
Stell is SB19's heavenly voice for nothing. Not just that, he can dance really well + he is also the main choreographer of the group. 👏 SB19 is a live monster. Hihi, Stell has sung Into the Unknown and its wild highest notes in their vlogs during nondescript moments, while walking through or doing little tasks and not minding the camera. He's really a team player and followed the musical arrangement, even if he can go as effortlessly high like Ms Zephanie. (In our local shows, in the past at least, power singers tend to forget harmony and go on their own trips. lol. so this is refreshing for me.)
If you want to see a total live performance of SB19 while dancing greatly and singing with stable live vocals, you should watch the whole performance of the round festival!!

I don't think you have really reacted to to many of SB19'S ballads but a good start would be Tilaluha from the TM Pusaun love show. Unfortunately it is sung in Tagalog with no English subs but the vocals of every member are Outstanding! Another performance by Stell is All By Myself. It's a solo he performed during one of their early virtual concerts.
If you want to watch more SB19, you want to watch more of their live performances and try to watch their Round Festival performance.

Back in the earlier years of Disney they would have Filipinos create the demos to get the vocal queues, which gave that very Disney feel.

Disney first discovered its first Filipino talent in Lea Salonga, who played Kim in the original Miss Saigon on Broadway. That was when they requested her to sing "a whole new word", followed by the OST of Mulan. Highly recommend SB19's Tilaluha. You will hear Stell's high notes. The TM Pusuan version or the Round Festival one are both great.
It's true that Filipino artists gives importance on the vocals more. It's a No-No to do lipsyncs even on normal variety shows if you are a singer, and if you have to dance then you better do both live, it's just simply the music culture. The crowd loves live performances more and are so used to it i think. And about the accent. English is basically the second language to speak for most and a lot of Filipinos do speak English well. I hope you can react to Morissette's One-take perf of "Could you be Messiah" or Chandelier with Darren at the Wish Awards and SB19's Asean Music Festival live perf of "Tilaluha' and MaPa. Janella is primarily an actress actually. A lot of actors do have some modicum of voice training, because here, unless you're completely tone deaf, you'll be asked to sing while doing promotions for your series/movies.
Musicals and things like that really can literally give me goosebumps. 😂😂 the changes excites me a lot !
I mean, Stell can reach that high note in Into The Unknown because he has a clip singing that part effortlessly, but of course, balance is needed for the song to be great so he chose to stay in a lower range.

Janella is the disney princess aside the queen Leah in the Philippines. Many singer have the the higher voice but Janella have this disney voice. The animated but singing voice is once in a lifetime.
Philippines is like a singing country, almost every filipino can sing or atleast can carry a tune, our favorite past time is karaoke and a lot of households has their own karaoke since its a part of every party or celebration.... you can literally find normal people (non celebrities) that can sing like these celebrities or maybe even better, in the streets, malls and bars. We don't really focus on just vocals, its just that because of the country's singing culture filipinos have high standards when it comes to singing, they are not easily impressed 😅😅.
Good is an understatement, they were amazingly great! Those vocal techniques are up there! And yeah, I had the chance to visit the Philippines and the karaokes were on the streets and dude- everybody sings like they all got some voice lessons! The tour guide told us it’s normal to find those voices around. Had an unforgettable duet of Bohemian Rhapsody with an almost drank man belting it out perfectly. So yeah, I guess it’s a country were people shout in tune! Pft!

Trivia: The singer in pink comes from a family of Filipino singers. Her mom was one of the original cast of Miss Saigon and her dad was a very popular crooner in the Philippines in the 80s plus a myriad of cousins, aunts and uncles who are either singers or actors.
