and thanks for putting out quality products that are AFFORDABLE! I was between LMT and AP and only leaning to LMT because they have the angled gas ports to blow suppressor gas away from your face. If Aero Precision makes an enhanced-PRO BCG basically adding the angled gas ports I would definitely purchase nothing but AP BCG's for every build! Is there any change this is already being discussed at Aero???
Thanks To my rep at Aero Mike Lasala for always getting us what we need and not discriminating against smaller stores like some companies (cough Daniel Defense) do!
This channel is criminally underrated! I have personally gained tons of knowledge and techniques from this channel and I am far from being a beginner. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and knowledge with us!!!
I had one of the Aero nickle BCG's and had an issue with the bolt. I contacted them and they sent me a 2day shipping label. Once they got it they confirmed the issue and replaced it. I had the replacement within a week and it now runs perfect. Sometimes customer service is everything when or if you need it. This issue showed me I made the right decision buying Aero and will continue because of that alone.
I worked in a radio station and “erased” commercial cart magnetic tape every day. An engineer taught me that the bulk of the demagnetization occurs when the object leaves the magnetic field. Instead of just sliding, add oval loops while moving left to right (like a bi-plane at an air show) so that the field is broken in multiple patterns.
As a Journeyman Machinist I can say you have a nice set up for QC there. This channel is the BEST out there if you want to understand your rifle and how it works! Thank you so much Sir for what you do for the community.
Fairly new Ar15 owner. Like to learn as much as I can taking things apart and learning about how they work. Just not about picking it up and firing. Your channel is by farrrr the best one I’ve found for learning. Thank you!!!
I'm on my second AR first time build though and I am thankful for these videos you make! The physicals and autopsys of BCGs have been extremely helpful and unbiased. I really appreciate what you do and the knowledge you share!
I’m glad to know many of us in the firearms community are starting to notice terrible QC issues from low to top tier companies. I’ve had terrible luck with LMT and HDSI in 2021 including this year. However, my boring Colt M4 Carbine’s made 2018 and before don’t have any QC issues. I was going to sell them, but now realizing it’s probably best to keep them!
True but try keeping up with demand in this market climate. It's got to be challenging to say the least. QC metrics will naturally rise when cranking out 10,000 units.
@@cnick6 that's a really good point man! We all (including myself) get irritated when we can't find the parts we're looking for in stock, but when companies are able to meet demand and crank parts out, some QC issues may arise which can also be frustrating.

I have to thank you for the educational value and professional presentation of your videos. I have a Springfield Saint .300 blk pistol that I have not even fired yet. I recently put a Q 7" tapered shoulder barrel on it for when my e-form 4 clears and I install a Trash Panda. Watching your videos has given me much needed insight. I have been examining various things as I gain knowledge and today 2/14/22 while examining things very close, I discovered the ejector roll pin was not seated correctly and was protruding out one side to the point where it has been making contact with the barrel extension lugs. I had to buy a few more things as being a retired professional mechanic doesn't mean I have the specific tools needed for gunsmithing, but I did buy what I needed to compress the ejector in and the correct punches, both of which I lacked. Edited 2/24/2022 To me this is just almost crazy. I had to wait to get a few more items, including my new 4oz hammer, the Brownells ejector tool, because that other thing I bought was crap, some specific punches and some new ejector roll pins. I also got my new Clymer go no/go gauges. In removing the ejector after removing the pin, the ejector was rather stuck and I had to grab it with some needle nose and really pull. After it came out and examining it with close-up magnified goggles, I discovered metal filings had been stuck in the ejectors slot for the roll pin then fell free once the ejector was pulled out. It was slightly magnetic and had some damaged edges from the filings which I cleaned up with a tiny file and made all nice but I was like, I'll be damned! I don't have a demagnetiser so it's just going to have to be for now but the go no gauges worked slick and the bolt carrier didn't lock forward on the no/go gauge but did with the go gauge.
I bought one of these a couple months ago when they were marked down. Headspacing on the bolt was so off that it wouldn't chamber a round. Sent it back to Aero and they confirmed that it failed headspacing. Return process was straightforward, and I got my money back, so Aero's still OK in my book. I just happened to get a bad one.
This is my thought when I get something that failed QC. No company has perfect QC, but every company CAN have great customer service allowing them to correct the mistake.
For real, sometimes you miss the mark on QC, it may have worked in your test guns but it doesn’t work in mine, as long as you make it right without a hassle I will tell everyone how great a company you are, you give me any shit, I am doing a charge back AND slamming you all over the web. I'd love to see a video where you compare and contrast different coatings used in the industry and how it may affect short and long term performance and parts wear. Phosphate vs nitride vs DLC etc. Love your videos
Not that I'm saying arfcom is awesome, but their forums have a good thread from a high volume shooting facility near Las Vegas, with reports on durability of various parts including bcgs. Chad probably has better things to do, I'd wager.
There's another guy that has 100s of bcg. Most used to failure or with problems. He says the best is phosphate chrome lined. The coatings on most bcg make them out of spec. If not he usually sees chipping happen more frequently and sooner on the bolt face with mitride and especially nickel boron. Amick with the original.
Good to get a random test sample for verification. Some solid results, its good to see some efficient internals on these recent physicals. Thanks Chad and Donna.
Just a thought on demag'ing parts. The demagnetizer uses 60 cycles, standard Alternating Current frequency, to create a magnetic field that reverses 60 times a second. It you power down the device while still holding the part close by it you get that last, final magnetic field pulse and can actually magnetize the part you are trying to demag'. Move the part away from the machine and the demag' should hold.
I recently had to return an upper from aero to my local gun store because either the BCG or upper was out of spec. The BCG was binding once it was inserted approximately 2/3 of the way into the upper. This caused operational failures.
I am very happy with all my Aero Precision buys. Great fit and finish. And I just love the look of the M4E1 upper and lower set. Hey looks count in my book for new builds. Overall my Old Colt 60's and 70's factory Rifles and carbines still take the cake for classic beauty.
Love your videos because I always learn something. For some reason I was unsubscribed from your channel. The same has happened to me with other 2a channels, especially lately. Thanks for what you do!
I don’t own any Aero parts but they seem to make pretty good stuff. It seems as if they are best value in the AR market today. Buy a stripped receiver set and everything minus the rail, trigger and barrel from them is what I’d do if I was going to snag their stuff. This BCG for 160 bones knocks it out of the park! Thanks for the review!
Their barrels (which are actually made by Balistic Advantage) are actually quite good too. If you aren't dead set on chrome lined hammer forged I wouldn't overlook them. I have 4 of their barrels and have absolutely no gripes with any of them
I actually have grown to prefer their barrels from BA. Mainly due to the fact that I prefer nitride to CL because of the additional corrosion resistance over the mag phosphated outer finish. They have been gassed fairly well and are just as accurate as my DD and POF barrels
I recently had a Aero Precision 308AR BCG with something wrong on the firing pin finish. It was mottled/splotchy in appearance and did not slide smoothly in the bolt right out of the box. Return was easy and replacement was fine. Headspace was tight enough that it would not close on GO gauge in a “match” chamber (read very tight). Barrel maker said it was less than 1 thousandth off and reamed the chamber very slightly for me. I am not complaining about the headspace - bolt and barrel makers were both trying to make it tight and tolerance stacking bit me.
Very good video. I learn a lot about BCG’s. Just got into AR’s a few years ago and building my first. Make it short I purchased a Sons of Liberty BCG. It is a chrome one from Optics Planet and paid good money for it. I hope I made the right choice for my second build with a 18” Proof Research barrel
2yrs later, I have picked one of these up. Just by running the charging handle a few times with the BCG installed, the coating is coming off in the typical contact points. Im not sure if this is uncommon or not but stood out to me since this is called the Pro version and people pay the extra $ for them.
Love this video. You were holding the firing pin over top of the demagger when turning it off each time. You did not do this the last try. That is why you kept getting magnetism in your pin. You were removing it but then putting a amount back in by doing it all with one hand.
The only PRO BCG from Aero Precision is nitride. I can find no reference to any DLC coatings for this product. It is advertised having a 9310 bolt ("shot peened and properly heat treated") and is HPT/MPI tested. Thanks, again, for your most excellent and informative videos! Cheers! P.S. I just bought one of Aero's HPT/MPI tested phosphate/chrome-lined BCG with a 158 Carpenter bolt marked "MPI": it is not marked as being HPT'ed either. This was primarily based upon your BCG coatings video, BTW. I've had zero issues with various Nitride, NiB and DLC bolts, but I thought it was time to try a phosphate/chrome-lined (basically "mil-spec") bolt...
I’ll be receiving my Pro series BCG today. As one would expect, I don’t have the gauge for the gas key so hopefully Aero has addressed this in the year since this video was filmed. Thank you once more for another great video, I love learning from them.
I just want to say that some parts being magnetic could be caused from if the manufacturing process uses an electric motor to cut the parts. Even engine machine shops the machinery can make the parts a little magnetic that’s why it’s best practice to demagnetize any parts that have been cut, ground , or machined if any way
The worst bolt carrier I saw while I was active in the business came from brand C. I was struggling to make M4s run with a proprietary nickel boron coating and no lube. After borescoping a couple of carriers and realizing the gas seal surface was rougher than a corncob, we sent pics to the CEO, along with a pic taken inside a brand D carrier. No more bad carriers, and the project went much better.
Thank you Chad, love to see the Aero parts on your bench. I'm becoming a bit of an Aero fan boy so good to see an objective lens. Keep up the good work!
@@adamkoltun4436 Most likely it's either a Toolcraft, Microbest, or Schmid Tool BCG, I'd bet. Even if they say it's not a Toolcraft, I doubt they would tell us what OEM they use since they don't already tell us lol. If someone were to guess correctly, they'd most likely deny it. To an extent it kind of doesn't matter anyways. Two companies, company A and B, can both buy BCGs from an OEM, like Toolcraft, for example. Both companies have differnt contracts. Both have different prices, specs, and acceptable tolerances. BCGs from company A are therefore different from BCGs from company B even though both are made by that particular OEM.
@@hodlwise2470 Correctamundo! Whats even more F'd up is the body armor industry. People are literally buying armor based off cool logos or whats in the latest action movie and have no freakin idea who actually MADE what is supposed to prevent a violent, gory cavitation causing them to view their own entrails. Pretty brainless.
Im a dealer and I've had LMT bcg groups that were all over the place dimensionally. Some tight some loose. I've had many LMT uppers with canted front sight bases(18 out of 25) The BCM uppers have been mostly good but I did get one BCM upper with an out of spec upper reciever the way it mounted to the lower. I also had a BCM gas key that was buggered up right at the opening where the key meets the gas tube. So too tier manufacturers are not always good.
Wish I could say the same for Ballistic Advantage. In process of sending back my AR10 308 barrel and bcg. Bolt would not close on a clymer GO gauge. Unfortunately didn’t have the gauges when I built it. Having problems, bought the gauges and low and behold look what I found. Very disappointed, especially since I called BA when I ordered directly from them if they checked headspace when barrel and bcg purchased together. BA stayed no they don’t, requested they check it for my order, it was assured to me that their products are “in spec”. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, for now.
BA is likely using the same mfg. Who knows if they come from aero or if they get the aero "-no-go" batches. Rebranding in this industry is disgusting we should all advocate for companies being transparent and being up front about who makes stuff. I'm pissed at the garbage responses aero gave me when i asked who made this. I'm returning both of mine just because of their deceit and withholding of information in relation to a life-saving product.
@@adamkoltun4436 look at the forums and see how the top tier manufacturers are having crappy parts coming out. Talked with my local gunsmith and he is in agreement. So much pressure to get products out that they’re either using tooling longer than should be used or the QA process is lacking.
@@thomashanke6750 Hey thanks for the response! Yes it is a shame that QC has dropped. I even bought a Benelli m4 last year that looks like chicom garbage next to my older ones. Its a 2000$ paperweight. I have seen garbage coming from every company up to BCM and DD and Geissle even. The demand needs to not be met by lowering QC. From what I've gathered, all BA parts that are not barrels are Aero's no-go run off or extras which is what allowed that barrel company BBA) to offer the same aero products with a dif name on it. I also understand that all the Aero barrels are made by BA. Who do you think makes these BCGs? Aero commented publicly they are not toolcraft. Their CS team says they "cannot" disclose the mfg'r. Heartbreaking that arms companies are trending to selling their run-offs as rebrands. There should be up front transparency. Guns are now as bad as body armor in this sense. Whats even more pathetic is that people who bought something ignorantly will just get defensive rather than getting mad at the manufacturers that got over on them. People have brand loyalty to companies that are selling other peoples' stuff just with their name on it. All the spartan armor dummies will aggressively defend the brand not even knowing its RMA armor in their carriers.
It seems like a lot of companies are promoting hard, and duty use stuff at a good price. Aero is just doing it best. You don't need to pay thousands for something you can trust.
I did experience a very difficult part to demagnetized in my life back in 1987. The Palm Beach County Divorce Courts eventually unmagnetized me for only $250k. Wish I had your Demagnetized machine back then.
Aeros builder kits are my go to. I bought one of their complete uppers once and swapped the barrel out to a fn and that thing is a beast. I took the original barrel that came with the upper and put it in my radical budget rifle and the barrel is sub moa. As far as I'm concerned aero is killing it.
I want to say thank you for your most excellent videos. I ordered a .308 BCG complete with duel ejectors in the bolt. My question is, can a bolt that has only 1 ejector be made to have a second ejector integrated into it like some military rifles have? p.s. you don't have to apologize in your videos, they are so thorough that I would never think less of any camera bumps or Arm's in the frame, just keep doing what your doing...
A tool makers mic would help for what you’re trying to capture on the firing pins, and would probably useful for you in general. It is, however, fairly costly.

Glad to see some Aero BCGs go through examination and pass. The last couple years it seems Aero has grown considerably and I regularly see them recommended as the "affordable but still quality" default option. Its just two examples but these do seem like solid options.
You should buy one of those round LED magnifying lens lights for checking the tips of the firing pin. Probably also come out on camera better. They are not expensive. Got one on Amazon for my old far-sighted mother.
Often times I notice parts, cutting tools, and gauges becoming magnetized during the machining and inspection processes. As far as gauges are concerned I notice it mostly with pin gauges. Parts will typically, but not always, lose magnetism when heat treated
Gas port size between different barrel manufacturers would be a cool video. How big of a port do manufacturers run for reliability vs only the amount of gas needed to run the gun.
Very interesting channel you have brother. Retired mil guy and I need two BCG’s. I would have not assumed this seemingly simple part could have so many tolerance, function or potential reliability issues but you have taught me a lot. Outstanding review Sir ... Aero Precision is my goto company for all my builds 😉👊🇺🇸👍
Good stuff, I have one Aero BCG only have around 800 rounds with it but so far so good, no malfunctions.
Had no idea magnetic parts trays could magnetize parts thanks for the heads up!
You may be able to reduce or eliminate reflection when using the bore scope if you have access to a red light source.
Red light would be useless. Blue would be a better choice.
@@hellcatdave1 Why so?
Thanks for the update video man, helps any one who may not know enough tech info, enjoyed it,see you on the next one.
Thank you for making this very educational video! I learn a great deal about what aspects of the mechanism are important.
Really appreciate you taking the time to do this. Thanks
Magnetic parts trays huh. I'll have to remember that one. Good info as usual.
Highly interested by this particular bcg. So thanks for this video and the spread of knowledge as always.
That Dewalt screwdriver is my favorite tool. Just love it.
Wife works for them. They're opening up an additional 300k Sq Ft facility this month. Get your wallets ready, boys.
Wow pretty cool
We can't wait!
great job, your attention to detail is awesome
Mr. Instructor, excellent very informative brother...what a blessing sir 👍☕️☕️✌️
If they are tumbling the pins in a batch (likely) the simple act of the pins rubbing together can magnetize them.
Thank you Chad, love to see the Aero parts on your bench. I'm becoming a bit of an Aero fan boy so good to see an objective lens. Keep up the good work!
Don't be a fan boy, do your research. Aero doesn't make these, its just their logo on it.
@@adamkoltun4436 who makes them? Toolcraft or Microbest?
@@hodlwise2470 Dunno, but if you read Aero's response on other videos they say "not toolcraft"
Every video of yours I watch - I get jealous of all of those go/no-go gauges!
i love your videos, thank you so much and never stop !!!
Thanks to Mrs. Chad for running the camera.
My pleasure! 😊
Im a dealer and I've had LMT bcg groups that were all over the place dimensionally. Some tight some loose.
I've had many LMT uppers with canted front sight bases(18 out of 25)
The BCM uppers have been mostly good but I did get one BCM upper with an out of spec upper reciever the way it mounted to the lower.
I also had a BCM gas key that was buggered up right at the opening where the key meets the gas tube. So too tier manufacturers are not always good.
Love watching this channel.. helps companies to improve/fix any qc issues.. aswell as helping the end user to make informed decisions .
@@adamkoltun4436 BA makes a lot of stuff for Aero. Aero owns them as of a couple of years ago.
@@adamkoltun4436 yup totally agree!!
You deserve far more subscribers
It seems like a lot of companies are promoting hard, and duty use stuff at a good price. Aero is just doing it best. You don't need to pay thousands for something you can trust.
Somehow just discovered your channel and it’s super informative
Love your videos! Thanks! The Demagnetizer will magnetize if you turn it off with the part (to be demagnetized is) over the machine.
Amazing content as usual
I did experience a very difficult part to demagnetized in my life back in 1987.
The Palm Beach County Divorce Courts eventually unmagnetized me for only $250k.
Wish I had your Demagnetized machine back then.
Love hurts..
Another great video you two .
Thanks for sharing. I learn so much from y’all.
A tool makers mic would help for what you’re trying to capture on the firing pins, and would probably useful for you in general. It is, however, fairly costly.
I'm currently in school for gunsmithing at the Sonoran Desert Institute with hopes of opening my own shop sometime down the road and I definitely will be concentrating/specializing on the AR platform. The info, techniques and measurements, and useful tools I've learned from your videos is undoubtedly invaluable for me. Thanks for the vast amount of gunsmithing knowledge you give! Really hoping I can make it out to your classes sometime
How is that going for you? Any progress?
@@manny45629 I’m currently 1 year in to my 2-year degree and I’m having a really great time with it. Of course it’s all online but the instructors have been really great and super knowledgeable. My favorite part about it is they ship me all the materials and tools I need for every class and it’s all included in the tuition. Also I get to download all the textbooks and guides (also included in cost of tuition) and keep them so I know I’ll always have those references to go back to for the rest of my career. It’s definitely not a replacement for spending time with an expert gunsmith but it’s a really good starting point for a career in gunsmithing or just running a shooting sports business in general. I recommend it for sure
I love my 13.7 pro upper and bcg, its the best fitment ive seen, and it seems lighter.
Have you ever tested a bcg that passed at 100%. With everything perfect
ruclips.net/video/kADQX_xmrSY/видео.html
Unsurprisingly, FCD is the only 100% I can remember
@@Beltfedhatemachine FCD is great. Their selector is by far the most comfortable and feels the most robust and durable out of any I've tried. I use quite a few of their parts on my stuff. DD is def another great one. Currently running a BCM lower, but getting swapped to a SOLGW lower that has a FCD selector, mag release, and castle nut, WMD nitromet mag catch and bolt catch, POF enhanced buffer tube, IWC melonite steel end plate, and WLA nitride trigger/hammer and takedown/pivot pins.
That lower is being used on a DD mk18 upper that I'm doing a barrel swap on for a BA 10.5 and popping on an X2 dev group VF18 forward venting muzzle device cuz I prefer the nitride finish and have had great exp with In terms of durability, longevity, and accuracy.
The Gieselle REBCG was perfect as well.
@@Beltfedhatemachine The Sionics NP3 did too. That video isn't on youtube, only facebook. They do the BCG for FCD so not surprising.
This was my first high dollar bolt and I was very excited about it. Been a great bolt in a thunder ranch build 👍
Glad to see some Aero BCGs go through examination and pass. The last couple years it seems Aero has grown considerably and I regularly see them recommended as the "affordable but still quality" default option. Its just two examples but these do seem like solid options.
Wife works for them. They're opening up an additional 300k Sq Ft facility this month. Stay tuned, boys.
@@pabooth88 awesome 😎
@@mitchellbryars9338 Find out for us and post as anon.
For the firing pin tip examination perhaps using something like Silly Putty would be good for a reverse imprint..?
I have one of those BCGs in one of my ARs and it runs good.
Excellent detailed inspection, makes me wonder if my “non-pro” version Aero Precision BCG would pass your test…
I have some Aero stuff and it's pretty good to go. I did have a bad customer service experience with them about 5 years ago.
Man I love this education. Thank you !
You should buy one of those round LED magnifying lens lights for checking the tips of the firing pin. Probably also come out on camera better. They are not expensive. Got one on Amazon for my old far-sighted mother.
A see through magnified LED lamp may work for a good view of those pin heads...
Often times I notice parts, cutting tools, and gauges becoming magnetized during the machining and inspection processes. As far as gauges are concerned I notice it mostly with pin gauges. Parts will typically, but not always, lose magnetism when heat treated
Another great video, thanks for everything you do, and the education you provide. 👍
I was hoping you would mark the stickers as well, to ensure 100% no component cross pollination.
You’re fugin dope af bro thx for the knowledge drop always!
Aero having a better result than triarc 🤯
I did not know these "pro" series even existed. Great video
always good content, nice to see honesty on youtube
Gas port size between different barrel manufacturers would be a cool video. How big of a port do manufacturers run for reliability vs only the amount of gas needed to run the gun.
I've got to get a set of these gauges so I can do an autopsy and physical on my own BCGs.
Thank you for the great information
Very interesting channel you have brother.
Retired mil guy and I need two BCG’s. I would have not assumed this seemingly simple part could have so many tolerance, function or potential reliability issues but you have taught me a lot.
I do not know how to choose a generally fail safe BCG. If you were to purchase a BCG, what group of BCG’s would be on your mental list to select from?
Love AERO PRECISION!!!
