I bought myself a BCA barrel, 5.56mm M4 profile, for about $40. I stuck that on a cheap Stag upper and BCG from their blemished bin and topped it off with a Del-Ton handguard and the cheapest gas block I could find from Brownells. It was my first upper build and I couldn't be happier. I use it for shooting steel cased stuff and similar cheap ammo as sort of a beater upper, in which it excels.
I have several BCA and PSA uppers. I can say I don't buy them for accuracy but shorter range truck or cache guns. Im not saying they are not accurate enough, just saying I see a lot of people talk bad about them not achieving 1 moa and laugh. A 299$ complete upper does not have to hit 1 moa to be worthwhile. I am very happy with my BCA and PSA uppers.
@@lifeinastockwrangler My build ended up at just over $260, including sights. The fact it doesn't reach 1 MoA really doesn't bother me in the least considering I built it for short range recreation and just to ensure I would have trigger time on my rifle in between classes, hunting or shooting for groups. I know this is old, but my new BCA upper in 6.5 grendel shoots mostly less than .5 inch 10 shot groups at 100yards. It may fail soon, only 60 rounds so far, but it beats several of my 2 and 3000$ rifles so far. At 300$ who cares at this point.
I was gifted a new 18" BCA twisted fluted SS Wylde barrel for a build. I checked out what I could and did everything I knew to do to "accurize" it and the rest of the rifle. The crown was unfinished. After a couple hundred rounds my opinion is it is a tac driver.

I’ve got a 24” .975 Stainless Steel Fluted Barrel and I suspect the manufacturer was BCA. I thought it was good to go as it runs just fine at the range but my goal was to get 800yds+. If I start having any issues I’ll know where to look, thanks for the video!

I have 2 BCA uppers. A 16” 7.62X39 and a 10.5” 5.56 Only issue I had was a gas block that wasn’t secure. I wouldn’t take them to war, but they’re a helluva lot of fun at the range.
I have like three barrels from bear creek even the pencil barrel is good no poi shift even when shot with over 100 rounds still holding 1 moa. I have never witnessed a trunnion being crooked. Great parts for the money, especially if you are shooting steel ammo.
Have you ever done an inspection of a Ballistic advantage barrel? I just got a 10.3" hanson profile and soo far I'm impressed with the quality just upon visual inspection.
The fact that a tiny little brush piece preventing a go gauge from turning shows some SERIOUS tight tolerances. Those gauges don’t appear to be very forgiving which is good.
I have a couple of BCA barrels & both of them HAD NO CROWNS AT ALL. I had too crown them myself & also lapped the barrels. They shot & cleaned much better after that, with in MOA AT 100 YARDS WITH HAND LOADS BOTH WERE 7.62X39 BARRELS.
I also have 2 uppers from bear creek. About 2000rds in each. 1 is 223 wyld the other is 556 and I've had not single problem with them at all. 1 moa at 100yds from both consistently.
I have 3 BCA 223 Wylde barrels. the first 2 shoot 5/8" grps off of a rest with hand loads. The 3rd is still in load development and is at 7/8" grps, I am expecting similar grp size with the third as with the first 2. It seems foolish to me to just throw money at name brands when you can get good results from 'budget' components, if you do your homework, and pay attention in the build.
@@bliz4600 Companies like BCA are great for knowledgeable people that don't mind doing their own QC. PSA is much the same and I've had good luck with them. Still, I wouldn't recommend either for someone new to firearms or, with the exception of PSA's premium line, for duty use.
Great video Where did you get all those gauges Reminds me of my time spent running blanking press die sets We had all types of guages for the line up of all the punches in the blanking dies
I prefer my FN barrels over all others, but I do have Ballistic Advantage, Rosco and a couple BCA’s. While my BCA’s may not look as nice as my others, they do shoot just as accurately. They go toe to toe in the accuracy department! So, unless your building your personal battle rifle, which I would only use FN, then BCA’s are just fine for range, hunting, training and the like. People get so stuck on the marketing hype of one name over another, when most often then not, it’s unwarranted.
I agree FN And Ballistic Advantage/Aero both make some fine barrels. I also enjoy each of my wilson Combat barrels My tack driving SPR has a WOA barrel. Worth every penny! Take care 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
A few years ago I ordered a batch of 10 BCA barrels in different lengths and contours after gagging them and checking them out only 3 were good to go I was pretty disappointed
I have a cheap BCA 10.5 223 WLD barrel that when mounted in an upper, the muzzle leaned hard to the left. I didn't realize something was wrong until I attached the handguard and noticed that the space between the muzzle and the inside of the handguard wasn't centered. The barrel before and immediately after this BCA fit as expected. Weird.
I'm not sure how I ended up on this channel, but I am glad I got to watch! This was as thorough as an operating room! Now I'm a little nervous yet, excited to see other videos you have with various companies barrels! Amazing Work and KNOWLEDGE!
Have you... would you... do the same review of one of their top tier cold hammer forged barrels? I would think that process would yield better results...?
In a case where a rifle has a short throat does that just mean your projectile is seated closer to the lands? Basically more suited to shorter lighter projectiles?
I have a quick question for you , what is the proper gas port for 20" 6.5 grendel barrel with rifle length gas tube on rifle buffer combination ? ... Thank you and Happy New Year to you ...
Do you also deal with the AR10 platform, more specifically the Armalite brand? I built an Armalite AR10 over ten years ago while I lived in California, but it's been highly modified by myself after I moved to Tennessee. It's actually quite a Frankenstein build as the only true Armalite parts are the upper receiver, 24" inch stainless barrel, magazine catch, bolt catch, and the front and rear takedown pins. The lower is an Aero Precision, trigger is a drop in Timney AR10 variant, Magpul PRS buttstock, buffer tube, buffer and buffer spring, Radical Firearms nickel boron bcg, Midwest Industries 15" inch aluminum key mod handguard, LaRue pistol grip, and I believe a low profile VLTOR gas block. I was just inquiring if you had any experience with and worked on them as I'd like to have you take a look at it, maybe perform an autopsy/physical, and possibly get some things fixed that are beyond my capabilities and skill set. Thanks in advance.
I was just gifted one of these 10.5 inch uppers for Christmas. What kind of accuracy can be achieved? I handload for accuracy on some other rifles and I’m curious.
I have had 7 BCA barrels over the last 5 years. First 2 shot very well. 10 shot groups just over 1”. Got a couple 6.5 Grendel barrels based on this experience. They shot worse than 10 MOA. One other 556 barrel shot terrible but cleaning up the terrible crown helped that. Haven’t mounted the other 2 but they look good with the bore scope. Won’t buy any more. Spend more on quality and shoot with more satisfaction.
I have a 6.5 grendel from them, no where near 10moa, more like 2 for me but it came extremely overgassed, so overgassed the extractor broke after 100rds, had to buy an adjustable gas block and new extractor and so far so good
I have a 6.5 20" from them and it's under 1" groups at 100 yards. Another higher end from Grendel Hunter and it's grouping at 1.5 to 1.7" at 100 yards. Just thinking that sime are better then others
I had read back in the day that CMP shooters would actually use longer AOL loads so that the bullet would engage the lands when chambered to enhance accuracy so there wasnt a jump from throat to rifling which could cause, as you said accuracy issues. Do you really need to lenghten the throat on that barrle if its probably just going to be a range toy?
i've been watching alot of your videos. I find it informative and relaxing. I sure would like to learn all the proper techniques when assembling a full AR. I know assembling can be a slippery slope on Utube. Maybe you should post on Full 30. Thanks and keep the info coming.
I think he has like an hour long video where he assembles 3 lowers from 3 different parts kits and trigger mfgs. MrGunsNGear used to be an armorer or something, his assembly and maintenance videos are very good and no nonsense.
I got a 16in 7.62x39 and 10.5in 5.56 bca barrel and they both shoot pretty good I can get 1in groups at 100yrds with the right ammo the wrong ammo and it will group 4 or 5in I have shot 4 deer with them so far
So could I bring my barrel to a gunsmith and clean it up a bit? I have a Bca upper in 7.62x39 doing my research I’m kind of expecting to get an enhanced firing pin, and 6.5 ejector. Because it had issues but maybe it’s the whole barrel?
To those of you who haven't had problems with their barrels, based off of previous observations, BCA seems to push their tool life to the max and have rather poor QC. This is why a lot of people don't have problems with them. As always, you the end user are the final and most important QC. Their barrels are what they are but getting them checked before shooting isn't a bad idea.
Just sent a BCA 5.56 7.5 inch barrel back to BCA. Would not feed, horrible ramp feeds cuts, light primer strikes, fouled up just under 40 rounds. POS they gave me store credit in lieu of a refund. Last time will buy their bear crap.
I just got the 762x39 upper bca side charge gen2 and I am getting light primer strikes and at the base of the round when fired its impregnating it is that a gas problem or head space?
@richardlindquist5936 0 seconds ago I think these are 4140 steel. I’ve built a couple on the threaded version in 5.56 and they are great for a budget build.
I bought a stainless 16 inch .223 Wylde upper. The first shot ripped the rime off of the case and the case was stuck in the barrel. I tried putting a heavier buffer in it and the same thing happened.
I'd love to see you go over the aftermath of an IV8888 meltdown on one of their AR's.

Been hoping for one of these
I just bought one of their side chargers and a faxon barrel to replace the BCA barrel lol.
Looks an awful lot like my free Vet's Day barrel. anyone else snag one a few years ago?
It's been sitting in my parts closet, but I do have a BCA
barrel on another build.
I just sent my BCA upper for a loose gas block and over gassed. It was ejecting brass at 1-2 o’clock and had a very jumpy/bouncy recoil.
Very good show
Great video
Where did you get all those gauges
Reminds me of my time spent running blanking press die sets
We had all types of guages for the line up of all the punches in the blanking dies
Really want to see a DD barrel
I prefer my FN barrels over all others, but I do have Ballistic Advantage, Rosco and a couple BCA’s. While my BCA’s may not look as nice as my others, they do shoot just as accurately. They go toe to toe in the accuracy department! So, unless your building your personal battle rifle, which I would only use FN, then BCA’s are just fine for range, hunting, training and the like. People get so stuck on the marketing hype of one name over another, when most often then not, it’s unwarranted.
I agree
FN
And Ballistic Advantage/Aero both make some fine barrels.
I also enjoy each of my wilson Combat barrels
My tack driving SPR has a WOA barrel.
I would think that
process would yield better results...?
You always further my love for all things ar
In a case where a rifle has a short throat does that just mean your projectile is seated closer to the lands? Basically more suited to shorter lighter projectiles?
Man to have a set of tools like that!
How concerned would you be on reaming a nitrided barrel? Are carbide tools an absolute must?
Class is in session. Recent SubER, can't get enough SOTAR 🤘🇺🇸
Do you have a list of companies that do thermo fit uppers?
I have a quick question for you , what is the proper gas port for 20" 6.5 grendel barrel with rifle length gas tube on rifle buffer combination ? ... Thank you and Happy New Year to you ...
Can you do a video of the BCA bcg inspection-spec like the other vids
Would you be intetested in doing an autopsy of a psa gen2 308? I'd be more than happy to send it to you.
If you bought armalite parts from midway USA it’s a BCA.
Aero uses DPMS pattern so I don't know how you fit a real armalite upper to an aero lower?
@R R Precision Welding Group They use a DPMS pattern nowadays but they got their start making Armalite lowers for Armalite back in the late 2000's.
I was just gifted one of these 10.5 inch uppers for Christmas. What kind of accuracy can be achieved? I handload for accuracy on some other rifles and I’m curious.
Gas port on a suppressed garbage rod is about .125 to get it to cycle. Also using a BCA barrel. Who cares about drilling out a $50 barrel haha
Nice
I went down the same road with BCA, same experience, wont buy from again. Quality was too inconsistent.
I have 10 of bca barrels I am impressed with them and the over experience thank you sir Chad
Can you elaborate on why you see opening gas ports as a last resort
I would like to see you check some Mass defense products.
Too short of a throat can lead to bullet setback if your ammo is on the longer side, it can also cause higher chamber pressures
Where did you get the pin gauges to measure gas hole size?
In all seriousness, where can I get all the gauges you use in these videos.
i've been watching alot of your videos.
You could sign up for his class
I got a 16in 7.62x39 and 10.5in 5.56 bca barrel and they both shoot pretty good I can get 1in groups at 100yrds with the right ammo the wrong ammo and it will group 4 or 5in I have shot 4 deer with them so far
Good morning. By any chance could you guide me in the direction to purchase all those tools you have?
Get palmetto state. Best cheap products with lifetime warranty
Damn bro wish I knew more about this stuff 🤣
Congratulations on reaching 20,000 subscribers
I just got the 762x39 upper bca side charge gen2 and I am getting light primer strikes and at the base of the round when fired its impregnating it is that a gas problem or head space?
Ream it with the michiguns reamer and crown it and it should be a shooter.
I would like to see a tbox barrel next

I think these are 4140 steel. I’ve built a couple on the threaded version in 5.56 and they are great for a budget build.
Do you ever plan to do any Ballistic Advantage barrels?
Could you do a physical on a Sionics BCG?
Inspecting on a dirty work surface is a no-no!
I bought a stainless 16 inch .223 Wylde upper. The first shot ripped the rime off of the case and the case was stuck in the barrel. I tried putting a heavier buffer in it and the same thing happened.
