Can confirm, weak calves lead to injury! My right calf was always weaker, didn't think much of it, but as soon as I started getting on toward 30 mile weeks, with a good bit of speed work... BAM achilles tendinopathy. 9 months and a LOT of strengthening later, better than ever.
This and the core stuff you did last time is great. As a new running with calf problem i am always looking for a good work out. These will be starting next week. Thanks
Really liked your relaxed style and using only simple household equipment. Achilles & calf muscle issues are my most common running areas of concern so will definitely give those exercises a go. Thanks Manni.
I had just that, shut me down around that distance. Had a good crack at calf lifts and stretches and the problem cleared within a week or two, good luck with it! I also find the neoprene ankle warming sock things are really good for increasing blood flow and speeding recovery for Achilles etc
Thanks for these videos Manni & team, it's great to have these exercises presented in an accessible way from a running specialist PT. Please can we have a video about glutes and pelvic stability for runners? You are doing a brilliant job! 👍😊
Great clear instructions, I'll be adding this to my schedule. I'm constantly fighting calf/achilles issues due to abnormally short achilles. I know I need to strengthen my calves too, but always seem to focus on stretching alone.
Awesome timing! I've cobbled together playlists but this calf routine puts it all together. Another neglectful area to strengthen may be the peroneal tendon for future vids.
I never took strength and conditioning seriously until I felt that familiar pain in my heel/foot region. I've felt this pain for literally months, since last year, and I thought the reason was that I trained too hard (which I've done better with). When I saw that taking off from running wasn't helping to ease the pain, and ice wasn't do much either, I kept looking up how to deal with plantar fasciitis, because the symptoms were exactly what I had. The only thing I used from this video was I practiced the first exercise. I started running again, even though I still felt the pain, because I realized I had to be more flexible to strengthen my muscles. When I first stood on the platform of my feet, I could really feel the stretching in my calves and the muscles felt fatigued within seconds. So I had to lower them back down. Today, I can raise up and hold for almost a minute, plus the pain in my heel area has nearly vanished. I need new running shoes, but other than that, I feel so much better. Thank you for the video!
Very timely, I have been to see a physio about a bad leg who has given me calf strengthening exercises to do, including some of these - nice to try a few others as well. Thanks Manni! Your videos are always super clear and helpful 👍
One concern I have is that these exercises don't really target the soleus, which (for me at least) always seems to be the one that gets hit the hardest, and the one I really had to focus on strengthening to get myself healed up.
Strength and conditioning not only reduces injury risk but also massively boosts performance if done regularly enough. Since I started including S&C the improvement I've seen has been pretty ridiculous. Probably a minute+ off my estimated 10K time.
Hi! Thank you for the video. Would you be able to tell me how many times per week these exercises should be done? Im run more than 5 years but never did calve strengthening exercises. I am trying to push myself to run fast and long distances but my calves always gives up 😢 Thank you!
Thanks so much Jeff and yes! We've got two other videos so far in this series - one for the knee: ruclips.net/video/NkY5kNql3Us/видео.html and a core strengthening workout too: ruclips.net/video/t0g-pnLEnmA/видео.html and stay tuned because we've got more coming your way too!
Have seen the seated calf raises with added weight for the soleus. Anything from a barbell or kettlebell on the knee to a cooperative friend. Is that something you recommend?
You wonder why you did not know this before you started running. New - " Read My Hips " by Dr. Wolf Schamberger. Best book you will ever read. This will answer most of your injury questions.
Thanks for watching! Try to give yourself a rest day or two during the week. With strength training it's a good idea to trt 3 days per week for progression, 2 days per week for maintenance. Hope this helps and good luck 😊
Do you regularly do strength and conditioning? Let us know what you think of the routine. What area would you like to see Manni work on next?
Not as much as I should! Groin strains perhaps? Thanks.
Can you do one on quads next please? Thanks.
I dont, but I should! This helped a lot!
Really helpful. Thanks Manni. What about hamstring exercises please?
Any exercises for ankles? My right one can get a big sore after a long run.

perfect timing, ...thank you. I have just started doing calf raises, the variation on here is a huge help at the exact right time.
Great to hear!

Thanks for watching Mitchell and hope these exercises help you 😊

Thank you Karen! Yes, we will add that to our list 😊
Much needed will help me prevent ankle pain and just give more calf stubility thanks
Manni doing his best Shakin Stevens impression at 7:20 😂

Glad this is helpful for you Kelly :-)
Awesome exercises Manni so good to have you on board. Best wishes Scott 😀
Thanks Scott!
can you do a video on shin splints please?

Glad this video was useful Geoffry, and good suggestion!

Just recovered from an Achilles niggle so will definitely be doing these from now on! 👍

Hope it helps Louise 😊

How many time we can do strength training and conditioning in week 👍👍
Plz reply
Thanks for watching Sam! Try this video once per week to start and then you can add it 2 or 3 times per week. Hope this helps
Can I do every day after a run?
Thanks for watching! Try to give yourself a rest day or two during the week. With strength training it's a good idea to trt 3 days per week for progression, 2 days per week for maintenance. Hope this helps and good luck 😊
What do you think about calf raises on a step?
Can you do the leapfrog challenge
Who would you team up from The Running Channel, Augustus?
Boys vs girls
Can you do the cooperation dots race challenge
That sounds interesting! How does it work?
IDK
I went up and down the stairs and my calves are feeling it real bad 😭😭😭
Hi
Hi Augustus!
Can you running while balancing an egg on a spoon at the same time?
Lmao
Adverts in the middle of a follow along workout! Come on guys🤦♂️
I've got an easier solution. Find a mountain. Run up and down said mountain many times. Bob's your coach
Hill reps are great for calf strength - but sadly not everyone is lucky to live near a big hill or mountain 😊
Can you walk while balancing an egg on a spoon
Speak in Hindi
Can you run while tying your partner's feet together
10/10 you have like 10 comments
That sounds tricky!
Like a three-legged race
