The new and old models are both great! I have both and have been painting them for the past couple of years when the expansions come out, and I’ve been subjecting my 16 and 10 year olds to it. They’ve been having fun despite themselves. @midwinterminis when are you going to play it with your twins?
I wanna get both copies iv had a broken skeleton mini from the og game in my mini box for years and have wanted to get the og to play and paint then the new one came out now i want both
I really appreciate these basic beginner friendly videos. I believe they help a lot of people to take the step into painting and actually not feel overwhelmed and finish their projects.
I'm in my 20s now but played so much Hero Quest with my dad when I was very little - I've just bought the re-release of Hero Quest, and also bought the expansion coming out on Jan 1st which I'm SO excited for!! Your tutorials are such an AMAZING help, I'm very nervous to ruin anything I own, but with these tutorials, I actually have hope and may paint the models to show my dad and play with them!!
I want to thank you for these videos. I want to paint my own copy of HeroQuest when I'm able to get around to it and your videos make the daunting task seem much simpler and easier. Your specific choices of colors on these minis are incredibly inspiring and get me thinking about how I can paint my own minis! I especially love the faded bronze you've chosen for the metallic bits. It looks phenomenal. Please keep up the great work!
I painted 30 skeletons back in Sporktober. They were the models from Wargames Atlantic, so they had no tattered clothing or armor. Making the painting process really fast. It was just bone, brown for some wood bits on the equipment, and bronze for the metallic bits. I added a few embellishments, like stippling red on the spear shafts and bows, to look like old, chipping paint. And a wash of blue-green over the metallics, for a verdigris effect.
Your videos, combined with good prices on amazon for black friday actually inspired me to buy the game. While I'm not new to painting, I'll definitely have another look at these videos when I get around to painting and playing when the kids are a bit older. So thank you very much for taking on these projects that probably bring in less views than 40k-based content.
I have the original base game, kellars keep, ogre hoard and witch lord expansions. Also bought the new one so this series is brilliant. Thank you so much for doing the side by side of old and new 😊
I love the paint job but that armor just looks like dirty gold not really corroded metal but I found a really good way to get realistic corroded metal I used it on the robot and waforged minis i had base coat the metal in dull silver then dry brush on army painter rough iron and gunmetal let that dry then mix the gunmetal with a drop of the iron and do a very light dry brush near the edges then highlight with silver in some areas where it has been scratched
@@MidwinterMinisthankyou for these. As a cackhanded but enthusiastic dad taking his first baby steps in this area these tutorials are giving me the confidence to have a stab at this stuff- something that is pretty overwhelming for a beginner like me.
Damn it, I'm really tempted to buy some random board game for my kids just to get to paint the models (no matter what they are 😁). This video just intensifies that urge..
I am genuinely excited to see the full set once finished. When I have finished painting my Space Hulk set I am going to get a copy of Heroquest and do this too. Thanks for the inspiration Guy.
I would recommend to use the varnish before painting the metal and leave the metal as the last step. You lose the metallic effect when you use matt varnish over it. Metallic paint is durable enough to be left unvarnished.
Heroquest was my introduction to rpg tabletop games. For many years I kind of forgot about them but during the last couple of years I’ve gotten back into them. Recently I bought Cursed City, Blackstone Fortress, Bardsung and Marvel Zombies Zombicide. Looking forward to painting them.
This is an ace guide, really like the finished project - with the amount of drybrushing though, I'd make a point for newbiews to remove the mold lines!
Honestly, I just do Wraith Bone, then just schlop on Skeleton Hoard Constrast. Cleaner than drybrushing (as it doesn’t leave a texture), but stupid fast, and gives that dry, sepia color that bones turn.
Love the way the armoured skeleton had taken the time to cinch the strap for his armour under his ribcage now all the flesh organ and and muscle is gone... 😆
Looks great, Guy! Have a fun time in Exeter ruining a Blood Raven, and then your Titan clash in Bristol! :) Hope there's gonna be videos on those!!!! :3
You are not alone in the struggle to sleep through the night. I started doing that recently! What's weird is that it's also 3 hours for me. I'll lay in bed for at least an hour then decide it's not worth the time trying and get up to do anything else.
I personally prefer Satin Varnish. It gives the models a bit more a smooth finish. Glossy and Mat Varnish are a bit to extreme in what they are doing to the paintjob
I know this is just a joke and I love it, but it reminded me of a random fact I learned about museums painting fossilized bones with leaded paint to stop museum staff and visitors getting radiation damage!
well like em yes me i say ALL who do enny undeed and the bit you other do not do and just bit fun is show off the magic that well macke undeeed a live agen how do do this well me i ues glowe in dark paint and say i do not play in dark but you do cast a shdows and other players do so if put the glow paint drys clear tell you well shine light on it and think a 100 or more sketens or zombis glowing just a neat thing last i did witth my vapier counts army yes 100s of undeed troops glowing tryed do vid but the bleek cam i had did get vid right one day i get a good one and show ALL out thare tell then haveGREAT holsay and tun in to nest vid
New HeroQuest models were such a disappointment. Bendy, wonky and just plain ugly. Well, got the old models painted now and using new gaming boards etc
I just got a copy for our 15yr old. I still have my copy from '91. The nostalgia is strong with this. Thanks for the awesome content Guy
Nice! Are you going to mix and match the models when you play?
@@MidwinterMinis I personally like the Firmir over the abominations so yes

You may not own HeroQuest... Yet!
This video makes me want to paint my miniatures that i didnt touch for a long time, Thank you!
Go for it! Stuff like this is an easy win
Rewatching this series (well listening) while I'm too sick to open my eyes ie really comforting, thanks

Love that you're doing the original models too. Can't wait to get both my sets all painted up using your guides.

Thanks guy, I'm finally caught up with the furniture now complete. Moving on to skeletons, great series!
4:55 Guy, don't tempt me. You just showed me a way to move through my pile of shame effectively.
Just finished my skeletons finally!! Wish I could post pics!
Love the tutorial guy!

Can't wait for the retro blood angels
Got the ‘89 version from the attic. Guess it’s time to start painting. Tbh I kind of dread it, since it’s the first time doing this.

HeroQuest! So OG, and so many grade school hours thrown into this game. Thanks for the happy video!
Great tutorial! Love the final results too.
I am going to be painting up my own undead horde from heroquest and Kellars Keep. So ty.
Looks great! Great video!
Cheers matey
Awesome timing, Guy - I just ordered a box of (another brand) skeletons - Thanks for all the great work and videos 😊💀

The best thing about hero quest is the gargoyle
Hey, there's my name!
And wouldn't you know, I did a Heroquest Skeleton for the painting competition in October.
Funny how life works XD

You should Collab with Squidmar with your shared love of Heroquest. Great video. Thank you
I'd love to do a proper IRL video with them one day!
Excited for the rerelease of the tomb kings for old world?
Is there a spray paint varnish that would work similar to the spray paint primer?
These look cool
Thanks bud! Super achievable too
@@MidwinterMinisI might end up using the tutorial later for a blood bowl team
Only £60 for the game now!!! Must resist… (won’t be easy 😂)
Honor GW?!? The bases needed a layer of goblin green. 😜
I want skellieeess
I'm new to painting warhammer do you have good brands of paint I should use or will any paint do?
I just got the frozen horror expansion box at a crazy discount, didn't realize I needed the base game! Anyone know if this game is worth getting into?
It’s a great game to play with kids at the very least.
can i use this on my own skeleton? or only the tiny plastic ones i have?

Almost 60. Been playing since the begining. Never painted a skeleton.
Nifty
Guy, I love your channel. A 12+ step process is not a speed paint. :) Maybe a batch painting, but not a speed paint.
*Insert Skeleton Warriors Powermetal Themesong*
Idk about gold armour; black silver or even just black would've worked much better. Gold is too close to the bone colour here!
Khaki is pronounced 'car-key'.
