Gosh DARN your kids are cute at the end. "TWO".... "haha, that's a five" So funny! Great job, I never interacted with these more vintage style minis, so it's been fun to watch you paint them.
Do love the old hero quest, but the new models look awesome as well! Keep up the painting, from watching your vids my models are looking awesome, thanks MWM!
Absolutely love this series! I’ve followed your guide painting the furniture almost to the T. I’ll start priming the figures next week. Can’t wait until you post the guides to the Gargoyle and the heroes. Keep up the great work!
Hi Guy. Absolutely love your journey. I've been following along from as far back as the sandy Necrons. You're by far my favourite hobby channel. The music, the art, the shits and giggles, all making my day. Awesome to see the twins grow so much as well. Cheers and thanks!
Long ago before the internet but with cable TV we did things such as making up our own games including something which was the European version of then the WWF. Then we had a rainy month and at some point we discussed the actual merits and meanings of the intercontinental belt and then we had the tournament over the intercontinental belt which only featured sea creatures. Jaws was in the tournament but he was a squash match.
Just finished painting my skeletor for the he-man battlegrounds game I picked up at uk games expo this year, the sculpts are soooo good! Archon studios have really knocked it out the park with these miniatures.
Learning a ton here and I hope you do this with another board game in the future. But most importantly love that you stuck with a limited color palette, that can be found quite easily. Thanks a ton for that alone. Can't tell you how annoying it is to see a tutorial needing 30+ paints(that I OF COURSE don't own) for one model LOL.
I gotta say every time I go to watch one of these hero quest painting videos I have to pause and watch the Why Heroquest is so Great video before coming back and finishing them haha
Bravo , I wish my hands where that steady... I have my Original HQ game from 1989...and 2 other copies from 1990 and a euro copy from 1990. Plus the newer version. I have been getting my sons into it and they love it
I got two things I'd like to ask: 1.Are you planning on doing some more Chaos conversions/kitbashes? 2. What's your thoughts on the Dornian Heresy alternate universe?
AWWWWWW Sooooooo adorable!!! 😊 "2! That's a 5" hahaha Also always love these tutorials, I always feel inspired to paint, even if I am working on completely different stuff. Thanks for the positivity Guy! 💜
I'm painting my model as skeletor inspired as well. Think I'll have to hit the skin with a bit more sky blue. For mine I used a uv active florescent yellow to give the skull a punchy cartoon look and a neat glow feature if hit with black light. I want to try and keep a bold cartoon or cel shaded look with strong contrasts. The bone highlight tips will be put to good use. The skeletons and mummies are more challenging than they first appeared. For my bases I'm going to try keeping the edge colored like a unit targeting reticule in a tactical video game since aside from some color coding with the different models (I'm minimizing red on the enemies for the same reason of wanting to preserve it on the heroes) I want to preserve the plastic color identifier when it comes to the factions. I think the non black edge might work really well with a clear base for popping the figure out from the board but haven't given it a try yet.
I wonder if it's a bad thing that I heard Hattie going "Hehe. Booty." in my head when you were painting the booty of the new Skeletor sculpt. As cool as the paint job is, your sponsor got my attention. I can't really justify getting it right now, but I will definitely be getting it whenever I get the chance. If you or anyone else is interested in another PBTA game or two with some sci-fi flair, I have a couple. There's a supplement to Dungeon World called Dungeon Planet that is very much geared towards that pulpy sci-fi feel I've only played it once, but it's a lot of fun. The second game is Mobile Frame Zero: Firebrands, a game where you hope in your frame and fight for the Terran Union or the Free Colonials, if memory serves on what the factions are in the lore. Now, if you're interested in playing some fast simple wargames with your kids when they are older, I'd encourage you to check out the game that kicked off Mobile Frame Zero, MF0: Rapid Attack. It's a mech combat game where players control squads of mechs made out of LEGO or other similar bricks. There isn't HP or anything like that. Each system allows you to have a die for different actions, so as you take hits, you pick which dice you lose and pop off the associated system from the mech. You also have two dice that you can use for anything that represent the core frame. When you run out of dice, your mech's scrap. There's still an active community that designs and builds frames for the game over on Flickr. There's also a space ship game called MF0: Intercept Orbit that uses similar rules. And since you've got a 3d printer and I'm pretty sure you have the design chops for it, you could always design your own mechs and systems that use magnets. Oh, and if you're interested in an interesting take on mecha, Lancer is a mecha centered TTRPG. Hope you find something interesting here. Your channel is what really got me wanting to get into mini painting enough to buy my first set of paints, brushes, models, and 3d printer. I think you were still doing Blackstone Fortress at the time. It's not much, but I hope that I can help you find something to spark some more joy in your life. :)
I've virtually finished painting my 2021 version of HQ, but since there's a ton of great tips and advice to find on this channel I shall still be using your videos for any expansions I may pick up, or if I ever get into any other miniatures in the distant future. Thanks for great HQ tutorials thus far, and other videos too. I give this one a Skeletor "Myyyaahhhh!" out of ten =p
Aw damn I missed the 60MS KS! Sorry, Ben. I would’ve helped out. I’ll keep an eye on your campaign anyway to see if I can get in on the backer kit portion of it now that the campaign has closed. Good on you!
Fun fact in the original wizard of oz the person who played the scarecrow had very bad scarring (due to his makeup) that took around a year to clear up
I've got a model of Literally Just Skeletor with the serial numbers filed off in my shop. I might just end up linking to this as a painting tutorial, tbh! It's not the same model but it's pretty similar, ha! And this is a really good tutorial to get that delectable Skeletor look, I think it would be super helpful for people. :D
Really fun video, thanks Guy! Love a bit of Skeletor nostalgia. Do you think you'll do a How To Play or HeroQuest battle report once all the models are painted?
WHEN ARE THE HEROES GET PAINTED?! Every day i check for an upload😢 when i look at release-rythm: 7 months ago, 5 months ago, 3 months ago, 2 month ago… I want to see your AWESOME series highlight - heroes in RED!
I bought Hero Quest via the link in a previous video! I'm painting along with all your Hero Quest tutorials and I'm almost caught up :). Any idea when the next tutorial will be released? I can barely wait to start with the hero minis, but you'll probably save those for the series finale? anyways keep up these great hero quest videos!
My kids and I had never done miniature painting before and your videos were perfect for us. So encouraging and helpful. Thank you so much. We're desperately waiting to continue painting the set - will one be released soon!? All the best, Rob(43), Alfie (11) & Ruben (5) 😊

could you do a QUAR video?
I'm getting a 'Your loot is in another cave...' for the drivethru link :[ Might be region locked
“Paint the wrinkles on the wizard’s sleeve” He he he.
If the wrinkles on your wizards sleeves are blue or purple, you got bigger problems than Games Workshop ripping off Skeletor …..
Borat?
Beat me to it 😂
Thats not a bodysuit thats his rippling blue muscle
The Spandex Avenger
Don’t know why it was quite so satisfying to see all the GW “IP” lined up next to the inspirations
"Stupid Sexy Skeletor" is now my headcanon name for that model, ha! (Feels like I'm wearin' nothin' at all, He-Man! Nyeah? *Nyeah?!*)
As weird as it may be, I think skeletor's skin IS blue. No body suit needed.
I WILL TAKE OVER THE WORLD, SIR-GUY!! NYEHEHEHAAA!
I was just doing constant impressions the whole time I was editing this video
@@MidwinterMinisHonestly I don't blame you both of these models wouldn't look out of place in a Masters of the Universe spinoff
Gosh DARN your kids are cute at the end. "TWO".... "haha, that's a five" So funny!
Great job, I never interacted with these more vintage style minis, so it's been fun to watch you paint them.
My kid was a bit scared of the original sorcerer so I painted him pink and he then became his in-game "friend" following his character everywhere 😂
Do love the old hero quest, but the new models look awesome as well! Keep up the painting, from watching your vids my models are looking awesome, thanks MWM!
That's so nice to hear! Thanks buddy :)
I love the highlight method in this! Really helpful as a newbie
When you get to the heroes, you better paint the Barbarian blond, like a proper He-Man.
Every skeleton or wizard mini I've ever painted always becomes skeletor by the end
I love my skeletonys being painted robotic or the undead
Awesome video. This is definitely the Skeletor we all wanted for the war game.
I used the OG sorcerer as my player character model for a D&D one shot. And yes, I painted him pretty much the same as this 😁
Haha, the sculpt begs for it, right?!
Absolutely love this series! I’ve followed your guide painting the furniture almost to the T. I’ll start priming the figures next week. Can’t wait until you post the guides to the Gargoyle and the heroes.
Keep up the great work!
Wow the blue and purple came out looking way more dungeon worthy than I expected! Very nice
I had that old mini floating around in my collection for years, and I painted mine with the same scheme for one of my first minis

6:50 - would have thought the sponsor was Secret Galaxy / Toy Galaxy based on their theme music popping up.
Gork and Mork are stinkin adorable! Just make sure they know how to read exploding sixes!

Wow, thanks!

Remember kids: 1989 was around 15 years ago. People who say otherwise just want to make you feel old.
I gotta say every time I go to watch one of these hero quest painting videos I have to pause and watch the Why Heroquest is so Great video before coming back and finishing them haha
What a coincidence I'm working on my own heroquest set that I got for my birthday!
Oh nice! What a cool gift :)
@@MidwinterMinis I know it's awesome, hoping to use your other tutorials to get it looking awesome

Fab tutorial. Those models look soooo Money Supermarket!
both model look really good but the old version look really cool!
visually skeletor is just the book version Thulsa Doom - and the barbarian is clearly an homage to kull or conan.. and not he-man.
TFW a shark's fin appears in the reference paddling pool.
Nice work mate! Love this series 🔥

@2:14 I love those little tips you share with us
The best part of hero quest is the broad swooord!
@7:42 that would be nice if the book lasted a whole six months, some GW codices have been outdated on release day lately

I love this series!
8:41 Wrinkled wizard’s sleeve. Noice.
HAHAHA teach them while their young
Love this series
When is the next one coming? I painted everything so far, great series!
Love that classic Skeletor... the new one just isn't as cool, though I dig the missing thumb, it would look cool to make it look like a proper stub.
Great video, has me reworking my legionnaire kill team .
I'm really looking forward to the wizard and hope it's a bit different from the generic one you often see.

Any progress on the Heroes..? Very much looking forward to watching that one. :)
Really fun video, thanks Guy! Love a bit of Skeletor nostalgia.
Do you think you'll do a How To Play or HeroQuest battle report once all the models are painted?
The old sculpt is so much better:)
I know you couldn't because of the restrictions imposed on this series but the Midwinter Minis Primer would have been perfect for these two.

Sorry Guy, the updated sculpt is clearly more Mumm-Ra than Skeletor...
Totally!
Hero Quest gonna be finished before the 2nd Edition Series.
Wizard's sleeve... 😂
I can just imagine skeletor saying "Do a mexican wave! Nyeh!"
Young Skeletor is defiantly a Gym-bro
Really enjoying this series, could I ask, do you thin your varnish when you use your airbrush?
I rather think I would have gone violet was the wash for the skin on Skelly boy. Those big pools of brown in his pits were a little jarring.
Remember the original Hero quest spent hours upon hours paying it.
I can't express my disappointment that this comment section entirely lacks THE BEST THING ABOUT HEROQUEST references. Not even a single browd sowd.
Nyahahahaha until we meet again. HE-MAN! NYAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
You can't just casually say "wrinkles on the wizard's sleeve" like that! 😂
Who is that...? Ghhhhazggggghkull Thhhhhhhrakaaaa
2:30: Ahhh.... Help me, help!!.... The screen became blurry... My eyes!!... my eyes!!....Ahahah... I’m kidding.
We need the last figures 😅
So they went from skeletor to the horned king from the black cauldron 😆🤔 ironic since gw is so possessive over IP lol
11:45 But why the hairy armpits??
Do the gargoyles next
I painted mine to look like Skeletor too.
Until we meet again
The bisexual energy of this channel is so fricking awesome x)
You didn’t say “until we meet again” at the end of
Why are the original sorcerer's pits look so dirty?
