This Absolutely did not sell me on Acrylic yarn, however, it DID inform me and help me better understand Acrylic yarn and its positives, Thank you for such good content!
I use acrylic because it’s readily available and easy-care. So items that get a lot of use also last a long time. If I need something with a different fiber content (such as wool or silk), I must order online, sight unseen. I enjoy using a variety of fibers, depending on the project; but acrylic is what I do have available in my area. And I love your haircut.
This is the first video I've seen in praise of acrylic! There are so many textures and colors of it to choose from, endless possibilities and easy care. I use all types of yarn but mostly acrylic and cotton. And I agree with everyone else--your new "do" is very cute!
I have been consciously reducing plastic out of my lifetime past 2 years. I recently read an article about the plastic micro beads in clothing fibers. When you wash them these beads go into our water sources and cause issues for water life and humans. I do not know the answer but when you said “plastic” it stimulated my thinking. The more I research the more disappointing it is! It is impossible to totally remove plastic from our lives! #lifewithoutplastic
@@ninajowkar3871 I'm with you Nina. I have climb down from my high horse for the last few years since I got broke from depression. Crocheting gave me life again, but I can't afford to buy the fancy "organic, saving the earth" stuffs anymore. Cheap cotton and acrylic yarns saved my wallet...
I think those are really great points but it oversimplifies the process of sustainability. Yes ideally we should all use organic materials that decompose but when you start beating yourself up on one thing, you'll realize the endless things in your daily routine that pollute the earth. We should all be mindful of what we use/do but also realize that a beginning crochet artist buying 3 balls of acrylic yarn isn't doing the same harm as the military operations and global corporations.
@@newlin83 Yes you're right, it's on us to be active in this environmental fight. I'm all for stronger government regulations on these synthetic fibers and company accountability. I just think there's also more productive ways we can individually contribute like lobbying for change, holding our companies accountable, making a personal conscious effort. But it's kind of like the whole straw movement, sparked by performative activism without any real thought behind production costs of newer materials and "reusable metal straws". I don't live in America. We don't use dishwashers, dryers, etc, so our environmental footprint is already lessened. Our yarn selections here are also pretty limited and beside 3-4 pricey brands, there's no way for me to track how ethically a wool yarn is produced.
I use all acrylic yarn. Im taking a class on how to turn wool into yarn from its raw state to be needing to be cleaned to the end project to having wool to make a little purse.its also given me perspective on why its not cheap. Its such a fun class though.
I agree with everyone else Jayda, that new haircut is totally stunning on you! I use acrylic yarns a lot. I have joint problems and I find it much easier and more comfortable to use acrylic yarn - plus I am hypersensitive to wool! I do use cotton fibre quite a bit but other than that pretty much everything I make is in acrylic. The easier to care for the better, becuae hand washing anything is impossible for me.
Love your new haircut!!!! And, I'm allergic to wool so I truly like acrylic. I found an OLD yarn wrapper from Walmart and a skein was 74 cents....OMG...that was a really old wrapper.
I’m new to crochet this video is helpful when it comes to choosing yarn! I feel overwhelmed in yarn aisles. Glad to hear these benefits of the most inexpensive kind to grab!!
Hi from Australia again Jayda. Great information on acrylic yarns. I use them too, but am a great fan of pure cotton and cotton acrylic mixes such as in Scheepjes Whirl cakes which are so soft. When I use pure wool usually need to rinse in hair conditioner to soften it. Like the many comments before mine I also love your haircut. You shine with style and warmth in your deliveries and I too look forward to Friday! 🇦🇺 😍😍
Jayda, remember I told you about that monster Tunisian crochet hook? It was supposed to take two weeks to arrive. It came in the mail today. Oh my goodness!! You should see it. I don't know what I was thinking. Lol Take care. See you Friday. jlee xx
omgoodness!! your new hairdo!! it's gorgeous, and you look SUPER cute!!! I've tried other yarns and purchased finer fibers I at craft fairs my friends bring me to, but I use acrylics more than anything. I love sport weights the best because hook size D is my favorite! !! acrylics hold up best and are the easiest to care for, especially when gifting someone something handmade!!
I'm using only acrylic for my 100 (ea) hat and shawl donation items for wash-ability, wear-ability, hypoallergenic as well as price reasons. However, the 100 washcloths will be in cotton because it dries quickly down here in So. California. Love your new hair style!!!! It suits you very well.
Hi jayda! Just wanted to say thanks for being such a good teacher. Because of you I have learned so many new things. The first video I ever watched of yours was how to make a granny square. Since then I've been hooked! Lol. Btw love your new hair style and cut!
Being vegan I only use acrylic yarns There are so many to choose from now. Your hair looks beautiful. Thank you for an informative tutorial 🐨❤️🐒❤️🐷❤️🐖☀️
Jayda! I am LOVING that haircut you look great :) Also, I use a lot of acrylic myself. I learned on acrylic so it will always have a special place in my heart, though I love the thought of natural products like wool- it seems a little harder to work with.
Hi Jayda! I LOVE your new hair style ~ very pretty!!! And I love acrylic yarn, especially with all of the new types & variations the makers are coming out with. Can’t wait to see your Friday video, and March’s stitch for the Victorian sampler blanket too! 😀💗
I volunteered at a yarn event a few weeks ago, working the register, and I was simply blown away by the number of people willing to spend up to and over $100 for small amounts of hand spun, hand dyed, fancy natural fiber yarns. I feel like being a yarn snob comes from a place of privilege, because I certainly can't spend that much out of my own wallet since I refuse to charge my loved ones for my work. Even if I just charged for materials and shipping, using natural yarns would blow the budget right out of the water. My only gripe with acrylic yarn is that it tends to leave a film on my hooks and they end up sticky, but that's a very small price to pay! Not to mention, as I am the one with sensitive skin... I don't think I could crochet with much else! Acrylic = ❤️
Jayda I'm a hairstylist, and I LOVE your hair! Super cute cut on you!!!
Hi Emily! Thank you so much :) My mother in law is a hair dresser and she did it for me :)
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the bangs!!!
Very nice, but I do prefer the long hair.
Jayda InStitches can you bleach acrylic

What a neat class to take!
I love acrylic yarn for all 5 reasons. Thank you Jayda. You never cease to inform and entertain.
Hi Liza! Thank you for watching :)
Thank you Jayda, acrylic yarns are the main yarns my local shop stocks. Love your hairstyle too.
Thank you Michelle :) Yes, locally, acrylic (and a little cotton) are mostly what I can find too.
I agree with everyone else Jayda, that new haircut is totally stunning on you!

Hi Yvonne, thank you :) I also find acrylic tends to be easier to use because it flows nicely through my fingers :)
I just love you Jayda. You always make me smile with your bubbly personality and your tutorials are the best!
Hi Dawn! Thank you so much, that is so sweet :)
Love your new haircut!!!! And, I'm allergic to wool so I truly like acrylic. I found an OLD yarn wrapper from Walmart and a skein was 74 cents....OMG...that was a really old wrapper.
WOW that's a vintage wrapper!!
Jayda, love you, love your channel, love your hair!
Hi Terry, thank you so much :)
I have to compliment your hair too! I love it!!! I like using acrylic yarn. I don’t have to worry so much if I mess up that I spent too much money.
Thank you Michael :) I agree, it gives us more freedom to experiment!
Acrylic is my fav! Especially the Caron simply soft!
Love Caron
I work almost exclusively with simply soft. so many colors, so soft, and all around a good yarn to work with!
The only thing about simply soft is the yarn is so thin. I get frustrated working with thin yarn lol
I have an afghan made by my MIL in the early 70s from acrylic yarn, I am sure the colors are as vibrant as the day it was made.
What a family treasure! :)
I’m new to crochet this video is helpful when it comes to choosing yarn! I feel overwhelmed in yarn aisles. Glad to hear these benefits of the most inexpensive kind to grab!!
Cute haircut! And I love acrylic yarn too. Long gone are the days of rough, scratchy acrylics. They have some gorgeously luxurious stuff now!
Agreed! You can purchase some acrylics that feel like silk!
I use acrylic in almost everything! Easy to find and great prices.
And you cut your hair!!!! Love the new do.
Thank you Tracey :)

Super cute haircut!! 💇🏻♀️
Thank you :)
Plastic is terrible for the environment! It's sad that it's so cheap when it's doing so much damage, I prefer to stick to more natural fibres 💗💔
Wouldn't you use the recycled plastic to creat yarn
The microplastic is my main concern, whether it's recycled or not 💔
@@cozycasasmr4510 recycling would mean reusing so they would be less people creating it , meaning better for the environment if I'm not mistaken
Very true! Thanks for sharing! Love your haircut! You look great!

This video was very helpful, thank you.
Hi Kerstin, thank you :) Yes! Bring on Spring!!
I love this. I’m not a fan of yarn snobs when what you should be focusing on is the fun of making the project and the durability when it’s finished.
If it's not fun, why do it!! :)
