    The cotton looks much softer! And not as frizzy? I’m not sure that’s the right word, but I’m looking forward to trying some cotton yarn

      Yes! I totally agree with you! The cotton looks and feels a lot softer and definitely does not frizz/pill as much as acrylic- great catch! I hope your experience with cotton yarn is as fun as mine has been! :)

    I have to say some acrylic yarns are very soft. It just depends on the company making it

      Some cottons are not very soft either. There is kitchen cotton and garment cotton. Cotton is also less stretchy than acrylic or wool so some people find working with it rough on their hands. It does have very good stitch definition.

    You will find that Mercerized Cotton has more shein to it, and there are a few European stores who has a large variety of colors for Cotton yarns ☺ But in the end the type of yarn we use depends on the project and how we feel it will fit the best.

      Great question! I would recommend starting with thicker gauge yarn and then from there, acrylic or cotton would both work!

    What is the best for making shirts/pants/shorts/skirts???

    • @saraoz2629

      cotton is way more breathable, and synthetic yarns in general (like acrylic) tend to be the ones that hold on to smells/odours more ; BUT, depending on the kind of cotton and acrylic that are available to you, cotton can feel coarser, whereas acrylic can feel more elastic, so you need to take their different properties into account ; it also depends on your budget (cotton can be wayyy more expensive than acrylic) and on your project (maybe cotton would be better for summer shorts for instance bc it'd be better with the sweating, but i'd personally 100% go acrylic for a fall/winter skirt). if you need more info, i usually trust everything i find on Toni Lipsey's blog or her youtube channel, i think both are called like "TL Yarn Crafts"

    you know those crochet mesh tops? can I make those with acrylic yarn?

    • @hellohawwaa
      @hellohawwaa  6 месяцев назад +3

      You can! If you're looking for a mesh feel/look, it would depend on the crochet stitch you're working with rather than the yarn! I would recommend the "mesh stitch" which I'd be happy to do a tutorial on soon :)

    Which one is best for making shrug?

    • @EshasEpicDiary
      @EshasEpicDiary 4 месяца назад +1

      Acrylic for winters as it will keep you warm, cotton for summer as it will allow air to pass through and not make you feel hot and it also gives you loose stitches to allow air ( preferable stich pattern to use when making a shrug for summers : mesh stich as it has big gaps to allow air in )
      Hope this helps :)

    In terms of environmental factor, is acrylic yarn generally more bad for it? Considering it can leave off a lot of micro fiber plastics

    • @hellohawwaa
      @hellohawwaa  Год назад +15

      Yes, any synthetic fiber or material you use is going to be worse for the environment than something that's natural like cotton. However, depending on the consumption or how materials are sourced/created, natural materials may are also bad for the environment and ethically harmful as well!

    • @PandoraBear357

      It's a wash really. Cotton requires a lot of water to grow, and unless certified organic, pesticides are likely used in the growing process.

    • @hellohawwaa
      @hellohawwaa  11 месяцев назад +3

      You can! I would recommend using a bigger hook than the recommended one if you're looking to make something lightweight. I can do a video on this as well!

    • @karenbambam
      @karenbambam 8 месяцев назад +1

      It's not as breathable so you may get hot in it compared to cotton
