I'm weaving in ends on a big project and this came up on an autoplay. What a fun watch. Thanks for recommending these - they're all great. Big Twist gets slept on so hard.
Hi girl! I totally thought I responded to this but I appreciate you for supporting me and stopping by to say hi! I adore watching your videos, stay creative 🥰💓
Thank you for giving an honest review of the “cheap” yarns that other stitchers complain about. As a newer crocheter I don’t want to spend a lot for something I will probably mess up. Although I’m jealous that your stores have such a huge selection of yarns.
you can always buy from the same stores online! and if you don't like the yarn you can return some of the items in store, i do see that ur comment is a year old tho so do you still crochet?!
I don’t even think there’s a Joann’s in my country 😫 there’s not many stores that specifically sell yarn and I have to go to shops which have very tiny yarn sections and they usually only sell worsted weight acrylic and milk cotton yarn and rarely there’s chenille yarn in stock but I can only find really tiny crochet hooks like 1.00 to 3.00 mm or 12.00 to 15.00 mm hooks so I either have to triple my yarn to use my 12.00 mm hook or struggle a lot with my 3.00 hook which I have currently lost so I’m downgraded to 2.50 mms! There’s only shops like daiso or day to day or greenhouse which have tiny yarn sections but never big sections. 🥺
I also love the Big Twist basic. Its soft, you get good amount of yardage and it comes in so many colors. I hope they have a good black Friday deal on it soon. Last year I bought a bunch of colors for under $2 each.
Wanted to just let you know that since Hobby Lobby is a no go for you anymore, Knit Picks sells a 100% acrylic that's so soft and squishy. I JUST got it and never used it before but it seems like it'll be my acrylic go to now. Think the worsted is 220 yards for 2.99 but I've seen it on sale for like $1.80 a skein! They also have a jumbo ball version for this yarn that I think is comparable to the one pounders. Not sure tbh but it's good pricing but has less color options. Hope I helped!
Wow thank you so much for telling me! I appreciate you giving me other suggestions as well because I’m definitely going to have to switch over! That’s crazy I had never heard about them before like that, so now I change 😊 And that price isn’t terrible either!!
Great video. I have worked with Big Twist and I Love This Yarn. I make sweaters and cardigans and I have been very happy with both brands - affordable, quantity, color selection. Also, the finished product seems to wear well. I have knitted and crocheted garments with both brands.
I went and bought some Big Twist a few weeks ago because I needed it for something. I was SUPER hesitant at first, because it used to be so scratchy (years ago). I don't know what they did, if they switched to a different manufacturer or their current manufacturer bought new machinery, but it's working for them. I absolutely love it for blankets now.
Would definitely try to buy yarn online. My favorite online shops are LoveCrafts and Hobbii yarn! Both have reviews with pictures and ship super fast and the colors are pretty accurate in person
I highly recommend bernat softee cotton. They don’t have a ton of color options(they have a baby version and a regular version that are the same thing) but it’s super soft and it’s always on sale at Joann. I think it’s 40 or 60% cotton, but it’s so soft and it can drape nicely too. Also, Michael’s carries a lot of the lion brand yarn and some bernat yarns. For people in the UK or in Europe, I recommend drops yarn :)
i could watch vlogs like this all daaay hahah 💗 and i’m so impressed with the huge variation of yarn on the shelves!! here in brazil it’s really hard to find it on physical store. so i love seeing it!
I've used the lionbrand Wool Ease yarn to make some scarves for my sister and mum. It's actually soooo good, I usually hate wool cause its scratchy but this yarn is actually great. Two balls of it does work for a scarf as it mentions, I used a 9mm hook and had a 150 chain to begin it 👍🏻
The Big Twist Textile yarn was very nice for a basket project I made, but overall I felt like I spent too much for the amount of yarn I got. I highly recommend the Hobbii Ribbon yarn as an alternative! More bang for your buck and more color selection too!!
@@itserinb also hobbii bungee mini is similar to big twist textile if you’re looking for a yarn like textile. They offer bulk discounts as well if you get multiple skeins and it counts for mix and match colors.
Love that celery color and the silkiness. The Lion Brand wool is nice to crochet. I haven't tried the Big Twist but I will if it's softer and less expensive. Love the colors of Big Twist.
I loved this!! I’m pretty newish to crocheting so this was really helpful. I’m currently getting ready to go yarn shopping now lol thank you for this! x
Shiny sheen in is called Stellina. It's basically tinsel. Definitely adds a nice touch to some yarns. I mostly use merino wool for myself, however there are some acrylics that are just heaven. I also used Truboo for a cardigan for my mom. She loves it, it's so incredibly soft.
If you haven’t checked out the Big Twist Living anti-pulling yarns yet, I totally recommend picking up a few skeins when they go on sale. They’re even softer and buttery! I absolutely love them and they frequently go on sale for as low as $2.50 each!
So much variety of wool that is not scratchy at all! Wool also has some many benefits that you don’t get from acrylic. Wool helps regulate your temperature and stays cleaner. Would also stay away from the hand dyed yarn at hobby lobby, it is so cheap that it is obvious the people who have dyed the yarn are not getting paid a fair wage
Do you have any yarn brands or types of wool that aren't itchy to sensitive skin you can recommend? I'd love to get into more natural fibers, but my body tends to disagree with whatever typed I've tried.
@@bloomwiththestars merino wool is well known for being soft. I would check out cascade yarn as a step into nice and affordable wool yarn. Peace fleece (brand name) is also great American wool/mohair combo that is very affordable and comes in lots of colors
Hi Erin. Love your video. If you are looking for a t-shirt like yarn, I would recommend Bernat maker home dec, its close to a textile yarn. I started off with Bernat and made blankets with Bernat blankets and beanies with Bernat baby velvet. I love cotton brands, my go to are caron cotton cakes, lily sugar’n cream. For Acrylic yarns, a good find would be the caron one pound, caron simply soft, I love how it gives you a very nice soft feel and not to mention Big Twist, affordable find. 😉 enjoy!
Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn is the best yarn ever made, like butter! Every other week all of their yarn is 30% off. So on those weeks their I love this yarn brand is the same price as scratchy red heart (3.79) 😊
Yarn selection is limited where I live in Jamaica and it's pricey compared to America. One ball of red heart super saver yarn cost JMD 1500. I've only seen about 3 different brands, and the colours are limited.
I like learning about what's available in different places so thank you for sharing your experience yarn shopping in Jamaica. It's too bad you have such a limited selection of yarn -- has it gotten any better over the last 2 years?
Hi Erin! I wanted to ask how many hours a day and days in a week do you crochet? I like to marathon crocheting, but I realized it's not very great for my hands.
If you're interested, there are some great YT videos of little exercises you can do while crocheting to help your back, hands, wrists, etc. I've also tried something that was recommended in one of the videos, which is to take a quick break about every 20 minutes to rest these parts of you body, stretch them out, and then come back in a few minutes or whenever you like.
And finger stretches. We are advised when studying to look away into the distance at intervals. One should do finger stitches. Some love fingerless gloves and say they make the hands feel better and go longer. Regular crocheting can preserve hand function for some arthritis sufferers. I think crocheting and knitting has save my hand function. I get oven mitt hands sometimes and I hate it, but less so than of i had to tried to keep function with hand crafts.
You are so fortunate to have such amazing stores selling beautiful yarns. We don't have so much in the Philippines...yarns are so expensive here. God's Great Graces!
U guys are blessed to have such a wide selection of yarn 😭 where I am the yarns are very small and colors are limited, also the quality of the yarn is pathetic 😭
I'm making a moss rug and I got some of the wool-ease! I agree. idk much about yarn/fiber types but its working really well haha. I also just got into wool felting and crochet lmao I'm supposed to be packing for school but I'm making tiny mushrooms💀
Hobby Lobby doesn't have the coupon anymore as of February -thanks to some people who were angry they couldn't use the coupon on furniture that is always 30% off and decided to sue- , but every other week the yarn goes 30% off! :)
